I don't normally review craft books, because I flip through several at a time, and I don't really need to keep track of them. That said, this book has a very helpful stepwise layout for a sampler quilt that I really like and would like to revisit in the future!

Some great technical information on how to 'make' my own quilt and how to translate the idea in my head to something which can actually be sewn.

This book is a must have reference book for any quilter who’s interested in understanding the “underlying architecture of traditional quilt blocks” and wants to create their own unique, individualized patterns. Through clear, step by step instructions, Sally Collins shows you how to create any block in any size. This is not a book you can buzz through randomly. The author advises the reader “to read, draft and follow the book sequentially and experience all the categories, in order, to gain confidence and drafting skill.” Included in the book are 3 drafting projects each with a varying degree of difficulty. Following the exercises and steps outlined in the book will indeed allow one to draft their way to “creative freedom.”

If you want to design quilt from scratch this is the book for you. I however will stick to EQ7, it is easier. I hate math and geometry. Basic understanding block design process is presented. I have read the book twice and came away with an appreciation of what early quilt makers had to go through to design beautiful quilts. I however will never make quilts this detailed or advanced.... LIFE IS TOO SHORT.... TO MANY PRETTY QUILTS TO MAKE.

This was a useful book. Gave me some good tips. It sort of straddles the line between too little math (for a nerd like me) and too much math (for someone intimidated by such). The lengthy examples would probably take care of the less mathematically inclined, if they stuck with it.

The book is well laid-out and it was enjoyable to read. In this time of special rulers and templates for every block, it's cool to be able to work it out with graph paper instead of buying more bits of plastic.

A valuable tool, more a reference than a to-read book. Most useful for me is how to draft points in a circle. I'll return to it as needed.
