This book was recommended to me by my cousin, and because she talked about it so much, I ordered it. I was not disappointed. I was overseas when it was published in 2003, and I regret I did not know about it sooner. Winebrenner gives excellent insight into the spiritual disciplines and sets the stage well by saying, that the spiritual disciplines answer the question of how to "abide in Christ." They show us that "nothing is more important than learning to live in the reality of God's invisible presence." Each chapter builds on the next, including great quotes from modern and ancient Christian writers, then culminates in the act of worship, which Winebrenner says is the outcome of the "exercise of every discipline undertaken in faith and with humility."

A powerful book for anyone who longs to abide in Christ and live out the faith we claim to possess.

So honestly? Most of the books that are chosen for women's bible study books are kind of boring and almost always poorly written. But this lady had me hanging on every word. She really had a beautiful voice and a fresh eye for the spiritual disciplines. For the first time in my life, I contemplated a voe of silence. Seriously.

A very in-depth study of the disciplines a how they apply to every day life. Many good insights and lessons that I had never thought of. Some things I may never be able to do.

I've read most of this before, during college, but at some point I stopped. I read it each morning during breakfast. Very enlightening, and very good.
