We Like to Nurse takes us through the many ways that mammals like to nurse. The illustrations and text are simple and straightforward, but do a great job demonstrating that we are mammals made to nurse our young. This book features pigs, giraffes, elephants, and many more mammals! There is also a sequel out with different mammals, called We Like to Nurse, Too. I personally love the Spanish-English bilingual versions of these books! This book shows various mammals nursing with their mothers. Every page or so a fact about nursing is blended in, such as the more a baby nurses the more milk is made. The last page shows a human mom and baby. This book might be too abstract for younger toddlers. They might not make the connection between cows, dogs, and elephants and their mom and sibling. But I think it will give older toddlers through young school children an idea of how nursing works. The style of illustration wasn't my favorite; I personally prefer more detail, but liked how colorful the illustrations are.
No doubt one of the strangest books in our library. La Leche League propaganda disguised as a nature book about how animals feed their young. The illustrations are absolutely atrocious and look as if they were created with the old Microsoft Paint program. About the only good thing I can say about this is that it acknowledges that mama cow creates milk for her calf, rather than the Ben & Jerry’s company.
This is a story about various types of mammals and how they nurse their babies. It's cool because there aren't a lot of books about nursing out there. I'd give it one more star if the pictures were a little better.
What a great book about nursing. My daughter likes naming all the animals in the book and we talk about how all mammals nurse their babies. I only wish they made it in board book.
