When a Sparrow Falls is a fictional story that offers intriguing insights into the world of dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality disorder). Thanks to the other personalities inside her, Amanda is able to maintain a normal and productive life, completely unaware of her father's abuse and her mother's anger. Amanda manages to graduate college, land a great job, and fall in love. Just when her dreams are within reach, things go terribly wrong. In the span of a few hours, the insiders, who had remained hidden from her and others her entire life, are discovered and tragedy strikes. As each personality emerges, Tom and Amanda go through the emotional and frightening process of uncovering the truths from the past and their feelings for each other. Struggling with aspects of their faith and concepts of forgiveness, Tom and Amanda find strength from each other as they begin the long healing journey.
A native Texan, Adriene Russell graduated from Pasadena’s Sam Rayburn high school in 1983.
As a young adult, she ministered to the deaf communities in Flint, Michigan and the Houston area. Through life changes and new opportunities, her ministry focus shifted to providing spiritual and emotional support to childhood abuse survivors.
From these experiences, Adriene learned several truths about the healing path that so many of us journey. Combining her training skills and desire to help others, she determined to write a book. The resulting story is designed to shed light on the consequences of abuse and to inspire hope for those in the healing process.
As the storyline began to immerge - one by one - the fictional characters began to live out the struggles of stolen innocence and lost joy that so many in Adriene’s life had experienced.
The primary message throughout the book is the hope and healing that comes from the freedom and forgiveness of Jesus Christ.
Adriene continues to explore opportunities to minister to others through her gift of writing.
Of course I must rate this with five stars - I wrote it! :-)
I'm actually very happy to share this story with the world. It's based on experiences shared with me by many friends who have endured much during their lives. It's not as much about their pain as the hope and healing that is available to all of us!
This book can offer encouragement to anyone who has experienced any trauma, disappointment, or abuse. Mixed into the tale of Amanda and Tom are many principles of successful healing.
If you are a support for someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID/MPD) then this book is definitely for you!
