Um romance histórico recheado de aventuras e acontecimentos que nos cativam logo à partida.
Retrata a força e determinação no seu expoente máximo de uma mulher que para sobreviver à crueldade daqueles tempos (finais do séc. XVIII) se supera e se destaca dos demais.
Intenso de dramatismo, miséria, de atos de altruísmo inacreditáveis, de amor, de coragem. É também interessante a viagem por uma Austrália exótica e ainda inexplorada.
Uma narrativa plena de emoções.

Think this is one of the most powerful books I have ever read! I love all of Lesley's books, they are emotional, intriguing, passionate and full of suspense. This one in particular brought tears to my eyes and I could not put it down at all, it has stayed with me for years and I plan to read it again, something I never do. I passed it on to friend who also thought it was beyond excellent! I can't recommend this book if you are into powerful suspenseful family sagas!

I read this book a couple of months ago. Now, I have a dreadful memory and normally forget about a book as soon as I've finished the next one, but this one has stuck in my mind as one to recommend to all. It is based on the true story of a woman convict called Mary, who is put on one of the first fleets to Australia. She has to go through so much to survive and even now I still feel moved by her plight. It puts my everyday problems into perspective that's for sure.

Μιας 18χρονης από το Φόιλ της Κορνουάλης που δικάστηκε και καταδικάστηκε σε απαγχονισμό το 1787 για κλοπή (έκλεψε ένα πακέτο με κοσμήματα και μερικά νομίσματα) στο Πλίμουθ. Τελικά όμως η ποινή της άλλαξε και αποφασίστηκε να εκτοπιστεί στην Νήσο της Νέας Ουαλίας (σήμερα Αυστραλία) για 7 χρόνια.
Αυτό το κορίτσι που τότε ήταν γεμάτο ενέργεια και όνειρα να ζήσει την ζωή της όπως ήθελε αυτή και όχι όπως ήθελε η κοινωνία, έζησε στις χειρότερες συνθήκες, ωρίμασε με το δυσκολότερο τρόπο αλλά ποτέ δεν το έβαλε κάτω και περνώντας τα χρόνια καταλάβαινες ότι αυτές οι απάνθρωπες συνθήκες την κάναν περισσότερη ανθρώπινη, συμπονετική και λογική. Προσπαθούσε να δώσει όσο περισσότερη αγάπη, φροντίδα και καλοσύνη ακόμα και όταν οι καταστάσεις τις λέγαν να πάει σε μια γωνιά και να περιμένει να πεθάνει.
Παρολαυτά όμως έμεινε στην ιστορία γιατί κατάφερε να αποδράσει από την Αυστραλία το 1791 με ένα ιστιοφόρο αυτή τα 2 παιδιά της, ο συζυγός της και άλλοι ακόμα 6 άντρες και να ταξιδέψουν 5.000 χλμ σε μια άγνωστη (για όλους) θάλασσα ώσπου να φτάσουν στην Καμπουτ της Νήσου Τιμόρ.
Αν και να πω την αλήθεια η γραφή (μάλλον η μετάφραση) είναι κουραστική και γεμάτο επαναλήψεις παρολαυτά αξίζει να διαβάσει κάποιος την περιπέτεια ζωής της Μary.

Em relação a este livro, começo por dizer que, na minha opinião, a sinopse não é um retrato fiel da história que ele contém. Aliás, tanto a sinopse como a capa (da qual gosto) dão a ideia - pelo menos a mim deram - de que estamos na presença de um romance cor-de-rosa, que por acaso até se passa numa altura conturbada da história da Inglaterra.
Mas a verdade é que "Nunca Me Esqueças" é um romance histórico, que cobre um período da vida da inglesa Mary Broad (ou Bryant), uma mulher que ficou famosa pelo facto de, depois de cometer um roubo e ter sido deportada para a Austrália em finais do século XVIII, conseguiu fugir da colónia com os filhos e alguns companheiros, percorrendo cerca de 5.000 km num "pequeno" barco.
Como boa parte deste género de livros, a história encontra-se romanceada, mas muito menos do que esperaria. Aliás, uma das coisas que mais me agradou neste livro foi precisamente o facto de a autora se ter mantido fiel à história de Mary e ao seu final. O livro tem um tom muito realista, que só o ajuda a tornar-se mais agradável. Realista também é a caracterização da personagem principal. Mary é apresentada como uma mulher inteligente, corajosa e lutadora... alguém que não se verga perante as dificuldades. Perante os factos que conhecemos hoje, não me custa a acreditar que assim tenha sido.
As descrições das condições de vida miseráveis dos prisioneiros da época estão muito bem conseguidas, mas pessoalmente gostaria de ter lido mais desenvolvimentos sobre aquela Austrália inexplorada e sobre os seus nativos.
Para resumir, é um livro agradável e que se lê muito bem. Fiquei curiosa para ler mais coisas desta autora.

Foi a minha primeira experiência com a autora e gostei da escrita e da história, mais ainda sabendo que é baseada numa história verídica. No entanto, acho que há partes que poderiam ser cortadas... Às tantas torna-se repetitivo.

Este livro deve ser o que tem a capa e o título mais errados. Porque esta capa e este título não tem nada a ver com a história que povoam aquelas páginas. Não foi só por isso que lhe atribui duas estrelas, mas contribuiu porque no fundo não era isto que estava à espera. Estava à espera de um romance daqueles melosos, com segredos à mistura e muito drama e o que me saiu foi um romance histórico, baseado em factos verídicos. De facto, Mary Broad existiu e viveu todas aquelas coisas horríveis, numa pré-Austrália e numa Inglaterra do século VIII. Não é que a história seja má, mas a forma como está contada não me cativou. Tem muitas descrições e parece que estamos sempre a vivenciar o mesmo momento, porque as descrições parece que se repetem. Não vou desistir da autora porque falam muito bem de outros livros dela. Este é que não me encheu as medidas!

Antes de mais, é preciso informar de que demorei uns quatro ou cinco meses a percorrer a viagem destas páginas. Comecei com o coração nas mãos e a indignação de quem vê o "simples" roubo de um chapéu punido com uma deportação desumana para a Austrália. Depois soube que a Mary Bryant, ou Broad, existiu mesmo e isso deu novo realismo à história. Li a primeira metade do livro de um sopro, a vida a bordo do Dunkirk - o tifo, a imundície, as febres, as intempéries, etc., os actos grotescos de uma das nações que se diz entre as mais civilizadas desde sempre. A partir da última metade, o livro torna-se entediante, aborrecido com pormenores de uma rotina miserável, pobre de alma e de condições humanas. Tanta desgraça junta... Mas enfim, o pior é que a sombra das catástrofes paira sobre todo o livro e esperamos, esperamos e esperamos por vê-la tomar os protagonistas. As últimas cem páginas deviam ter sido resumidas para 25. Achei que o ritmo geral do livro era lento. Ontem consegui tomá-lo pelos cornos e terminá-lo de vez, mas não tenho especial gosto por livros que me sabem a obrigação. Além disso detestei o facto de a Mary ser adorada por todos e de distribuir beijos nos lábios de todos como uma irmãzinha grata a dar esmolas aos tolos enamorados. Dou três porque o livro tem um evidente e trabalhoso trabalho de pesquisa por trás. Teve rasgos interessantes por entre outros que me causaram enfado. Em geral estou feliz que tenha acabado, foi uma leitura custosa e não estou a ver-me a passar por ela de novo.

É um livro bem dramático, mas muito bom. Uma história diferente do que é usual, baseada em factos verídicos (o que a torna ainda mais dramática e empolgante). Gostei bastante da escrita desta autora.

This was a most compelling read of a difficult chapter in British history - the first convict transport to Australia and the travails suffered by Mary Broad Bryant and her fellow convicts. Author Lesley Pearse, through her extensive historical research, has put soul into a well-documented person of history. Pearse's writing is fine and highly descriptive without being flowery. Her writing calls to the reader's senses as they smell the sweet tropical plants of "Down Under" as well as the tang of the sea mist or that horrendous odor wafting up from deep within the ship's hold. They see the flagging convicts with their vacant visages as well as the encouraging dawn of a new day. One hears the angry voices of native islanders, the roiling surf of a stormy sea and the harrowing cries of hopeless convicts. One feels the tender touch of a caring friend and the horrific grip of a would-be rapist. Mary had been a foolish young woman who embraced her lot in life, yet inspired courage, engendered compassion and managed to survive the transport experience. Pearse has held nothing back. This is a horrific and yet amazing true story which needs to be told again and again. I for one am richer for having spent these hours with Mary, an amazing woman of history.

A primeira vez que vi o livro e li a sinopse, julguei que estava perante um romance cor-de-rosa, mas assim que li que era um romance-histórico e li algumas opiniões, senti-me tentada a dar uma oportunidade ao livro. E ainda bem que o fiz.
O livro acompanha a história de Mary Broad, uma jovem que foi condenada a forca por ter roubado um chapéu, mas a qual lhe é dada a oportunidade de ir para a Austrália durante 7 anos. No entanto, onde podemos julgar que a sua vida lhe poderia ser mais fácil, Mary depara-se com muitas dificuldades.
Uma história que foca a vida de Mary, com todas as suas dificuldades, de forma crua, e não romanceada, principalmente as descrições das condições de vida dos prisioneiros, quer nos barcos em que são transportados, quer no colónia.
Apesar de alguma dureza no relato, ter momentos muito emotivos, capazes de nos levar às lágrimas.
Mary é uma mulher determinada com uma força de vontade simplesmente avassaladora, e tenho pena de não se saber muito mais sobre esta mulher, pois gostaria de saber o que o futuro lhe reservou.
Quando tentei pesquisar mais sobre Mary, descobri que foi feito um filme baseado na sua história, e vou tentar arranja-lo para ver.
Adorei e estou certa que mais tarde ou mais cedo, vou reler este livro.

Krásně napsaný příběh podle skutečných události. V některých pasážích jsem ani nedýchala, tak jsem byla napjatá co se stane v následující vteřině. Kniha si rozhodně zaslouží plný počet hvězdiček. :)

clearing out my #shelfie, that I realized I already own an old copy of it and was also actually planning to watch its movie.
Remember me is a fiction based on the true story of Mary Broad who was convicted and deported to Australia.
We follow her survival story and whether she ever makes it back home.
It was such a griping story filled with lots of emotions. I fell in love with Mary and all the characters. I cried, I screamed, had tears of joy, and was on the edge of my bed most of time rooting for her survival and others.
I totally recommend the book especially if you are into fiction based on true stories. This will totally have you researching more about Mary Broad.

I loved this book! I have now read three books by Lesley Pearse and I am amazed at how very different they are. Remember me is a novel based on a true story and so I found myself not only enjoying the story but also learning such a lot. Although I knew that Australia was once a destination for convicts I had no idea of the conditions on the voyage or the hardships that those on the first fleet endured. You cannot fail to be affected by the story of Mary Broad and you mourn and rejoice with her along her journey.I would recommend this book to everyone, especially if you have a love of history and like me can't resist an incredible story.

A sinopse leva-nos a pensar que se trata de mais um romance cor-de-rosa mas não o é definitivamente.
Este livro só nos demonstra que a força e determinação nos levam sempre onde queremos e que a inteligência e integridade de carácter se sobrepõem à beleza física.

This book reminds me of The Thorn Birds. The struggle of a woman who lost everything in her life. Mary Broad was a prisoner from London, and would be taken to Sydney. But the ship stopped at New South Wales, the a lot of things happened in the middle. It's a wonderful story and the book is a page turner. And happy to say this is my 49th books of this year. Yeay

Based on a true story, Mary Broad brings to life the horrors that a somewhat trivial crime could bring about in that period of time. 1786, shy of her twentieth birthday, Mary is sentenced to death by hanging, for the crime of stealing a silk hat. Spared her death sentence, she is sentenced to be shipped to Australia to live out her sentence and be put to work. From sentencing, the journey across the sea and eventually landing on the shore and the colony to work and fight for survival.
I am not a huge fan of historical fiction however Pearse has a way with words and draws the reader in quickly, vested in the character you need to keep reading to see how she fares. The conditions Mary faces is horrendous, mixed with other criminals rape and violence are rife. Struggling to survive, get her share of rations, keep away from the body fluids building up in an enclosed filthy environment, Mary uses her wits and all available resources.
It is hard hitting at times, some of the things Mary either sees or endures makes for uncomfortable reading. We experience relationships, betrayal, love, loss, adult and children dying as well as the casual attitude to death as such a common occurrence. This book packs a punch and will take you on an emotional roller coaster. I have read this author before and I will read her again, 4/5 for me this time.

Based on a true story, Mary Broad brings to life the horrors that a somewhat trivial crime could bring about in that period of time. 1786, shy of her twentieth birthday, Mary is sentenced to death by hanging, for the crime of stealing a silk hat. Spared her death sentence, she is sentenced to be shipped to Australia to live out her sentence and be put to work. From sentencing, the journey across the sea and eventually landing on the shore and the colony to work and fight for survival.
I am not a huge fan of historical fiction however Pearse has a way with words and draws the reader in quickly, vested in the character you need to keep reading to see how she fares. The conditions Mary faces is horrendous, mixed with other criminals rape and violence are rife. Struggling to survive, get her share of rations, keep away from the body fluids building up in an enclosed filthy environment, Mary uses her wits and all available resources.
It is hard hitting at times, some of the things Mary either sees or endures makes for uncomfortable reading. We experience relationships, betrayal, love, loss, adult and children dying as well as the casual attitude to death as such a common occurrence. This book packs a punch and will take you on an emotional roller coaster. I have read this author before and I will read her again, 4/5 for me this time.

Só tenho uma coisa a dizer, fiquei fã desta autora!!!
Mas que livro excelente, desde o princípio ao fim. Não me apeteceu largar o livro nem por um minuto, queria sempre perceber o que ia acontecer com Mary a seguir.
Mary é das melhores personagens que conheci até hoje, é a mulher mais determinada que alguma vez tive o prazer de conhecer. É uma mulher nada egoísta e que fez tudo, não só pelo bem dela, mas também fez muito pelo bem dos outros.
O melhor deste livro é que é baseado numa história real, estive o livro todo a pensar como era possível uma pessoa como ela passar por coisas tão horríveis, e mesmo assim conseguir manter um sorriso na cara depois dos momentos mais terríveis por que passou, e conseguir ver um lado positivo em tudo, mesmo nas pessoas que a magoaram.

Não me arrependo nada de ter iniciado este livro, só me arrependo de nunca ter lido nada da autora mais cedo, devido a achar que os livros dela eram daqueles romances super lamechas (nada a ver), é o que dá ligar mais às capas do que ler a sinopse, depois perde-se preciosidades destas pelo caminho.
Quero ler muito mais de Lesley Pearse, e recomendo este livro para pessoas que adoram livros históricos. Têm mesmo que ler este livro, tenho a certeza absoluta que vão adorar.

Antes de mais, há que dar os parabéns ao responsável da editora original que aprovou este título, capa e sinopse para esta história. E sim, estou a ser sarcástica.
Não se trata de nenhuma histórica cor-de-rosa dos tempos modernos.
É sim um excelente relato histórico sobre a vida de Mary Broad/ Mary Bryant e a sua deportação.
Na minha opinião, o único romance reside no amor que teve pelos seus filhos (especialmente por Charlotte) e, claro, por ela própria.
Sem entrar em descrições extensivas de lugares, pessoas e datas, Lesley Pearse consegue 'enviar-nos' para o final do século XVIII, visto aos olhos de uma condenada cheia de coragem.

Apesar de ter gostado, achei que Segue o teu coração foi mais intenso do que este. Claro que simpatizei com a Mary, a sua força apesar de tudo, mas... fiquei com a sensação de que poderia ter sido contado de outra forma que prendesse mais a atenção.

ENG: I decided to read a Lesley Pearse book hoping it would be one of those cute romances everybody talks about. However, and without me knowing, I chose one of her books that do not fit it that category. In fact, I had never read such a violent book in my life.
Remember Me is the title of the true story of Mary Broad, a woman sentenced of deportation by theft to Australia, in a reintegration project founded by England to populate this area. Mary was known as the first person to organise and participate in a well-succeeded escape from the penal colony. In that escape there were her husband, seven men and her two small children besides her. They were able to travel through around 5 000kms on a sailing boat in open sea. The book follows the protagonist since she leaves her parents’ house until the moment of the theft, including the violent boat trip, the horror in Australia, the intricate escape, the death of the children, her husband and people she considered family among other problems.
What I feel is that this book and this story don’t have the protagonism that it should, since it tells something so exceptional. I had never heard of this, not even on History classes.
In the beginning, is was really hard for me to get into the story. I didn’t understand some action, it wasn’t what I had expected and so I wasn’t that engaged. Nonetheless, as I kept reading, I got involved in this story in such a way that I finished the book with an urge to cry. The author’s work was really good, her descriptions and the way she wrote it can touch even the coldest of people. It is a good book, yes. But it’s a book that I don’t ever want to read again in this lifetime. The violence of the book and knowing that the plot’s events are real create a pain in the heart in such a way that it stays with you until you read the author’s final notes.
(CAREFUL: This part might be considered spoilers, even though it’s just historical events) The end of the book did not help my pain. The story ends in an open way, since there are no more records of what actually happened to Mary Broad up to a certain point of her life. Just like the author says in her final notes, it is possible that she didn’t resign to a quiet, placid life and made great thing out of her life. But we don’t know, and that’s the worst part. Through the span of over 400 pages, I connected to a real woman, I suffered with her and supported her, but now I don’t even know when she died or in what country. And that uncertainty is the problem of real stories: we don’t have a happy ending or a closed one. We have the doubt that will always be with you. I just hope that everything went well and that finally God, or whatever entity governs us, had opened their eyes to this incredible woman and mother whose story should never be forgotten.
The title of this book is Remember Me and it is, without a doubt, an unforgettable story.
With this said, I think it’s obvious that I recommend this book.

Nunca Me Esqueças é o título da história verídica de Mary Broad, uma mulher condenada por roubo à deportação para a Austrália naquele que era um projeto de reintegração criado pela Inglaterra para povoar esta zona. Mary ficou conhecida por ter sido a primeira mulher a organizar e participar numa fuga bem sucedida da colónia penal em que se encontrava, fuga essa composta por ela, os seus dois filhos pequenos, o marido e mais sete homens, sendo que eles conseguiram viajar por cerca de 5000 km num barco à vela em mar aberto. Este livro acompanha a protagonista desde que sai de casa dos pais, até ao momento do roubo, a viagem violenta no barco, o terror na Austrália e a fuga complicada, entre muitos outros problemas que surgiram pelo caminho.
Depois de ler esta história, fiquei automaticamente com vontade de saber até que ponto era verdadeira, uma vez que nunca tinha ouvido nada sobre a mesma, e fiquei surpreendida ao perceber que é, de facto, na sua maioria, verídica, o que me deixou a sentir que este livro e a história dela não têm o protagonismo que deviam tendo em conta que foi algo tão excecional e da qual ninguém ouve falar.
O título original deste livro é Remember Me, que eu achei que podia ser traduzido de uma forma melhor, mais não seja para não dar a esta história um ar tão de romance.
A princípio eu custei realmente a entrar na história, não percebia certas ações, não era o que eu esperava e não tinha grande interesse. No entanto, com o passar das páginas, eu realmente envolvi-me nesta história e sofria com as personagens. Terminei o livro com vontade de chorar, o trabalho que a autora fez foi muito bom, as suas descrições e a forma como escreveu conseguem tocar até a mais fria das pessoas. É um livro bom sim, mas também é um livro que nunca mais quero ler na minha vida: a violência do livro e, pior, saber que os acontecimentos na base da ação são verdade, criam uma dor no coração de tal forma que nos acompanha ainda enquanto lemos as notas finais da autora.
(Atenção que isto pode ser considerado spoilers, apesar de o que vou referir ser histórico) O final do livro só ajudou na minha dor. A história termina de forma aberta, já que a partir daí não há mais registos sobre o que aconteceu com a Mary Broad. Como a própria autora diz nas suas notas finais, é possível que ela não se tenha resignado a uma vida pacata e tenha feito ainda grandes coisas na vida, mas nós não sabemos, e isso ainda é o pior, passei mais de 400 páginas a ligar-me a uma personagem, a sofrer com ela e a torcer por ela. E terminei assim, não se sabe o ano em que morreu ou sequer o país, e é essa incerteza, por uma pessoa/personagem a quem me afeiçoei, que aperta ainda mais o coração. Concluo a dizer que este é o problema de histórias verídicas: não temos o final feliz ou o final em fechado, temos a incerteza que provavelmente me vai acompanhar para sempre, só espero que tudo lhe tenha corrido bem e que, finalmente, Deus, ou quem quer que nos governe, tenha aberto os olhos para esta fantástica mulher e mãe de quem a história nunca se devia de esquecer.
Acho que nem preciso de dizer que recomendo. Boas leituras.

Este libro me lo recomendaron y tenía muchas dudas en leerlo, primero porque es de época y segundo porque es muy extenso pero mi sorpresa fue que lo disfrute mucho e hice ese viaje con Mary.
El libro nos habla sobre una chica llamada Mary que la encierran por haber intentado robar, pero en esos tiempos los presos eran esclavos y los trataban horrible, sufrian mucho y lo peor es que estaban todos mezclados, entonces ya se imaginaran las cosas horribles que vivían algunos. A Mary junto con otro presos planean se la llevan a Australia y se convirtió en una de las primeras exitosas escapadas de la incipiente colonia penal de Australia.
Mary en su viaje en barco ve que la manera de conseguir comida y algunas otras comodidas, es vendiendo su cuerpo, en el libro se maneja que fue con Graham con quien mantiene esa relación y del cual queda embarazada pero otros aseguran que la bebé era de Tench.
Mary decide ponerle Charlotte ( como el nombre del barco ) a su hija. En ese viaje Mary conoce a unas personas que terminarán siendo sus amigos y una de ellas es William Bryant. Por consejo de Tench Mary le propone a Will que se case con ella, de esa manera tendrá un poco más de respeto entre los demás hombres presos y William acepta.

Después de casarse con William, Mary tiene un hijo al que nombran Manuel.
El 28 de marzo de 1791, William y Mary Bryant, los niños, en compañía de sus compañeros William Allen, James Martin , Samuel Bird alias John Simms, Samuel Broom alias John Butcher, James Cox alias Rolt, Nathaniel Lillie y William Morton Navegante), roban un bote y escapan.
Después de un viaje de sesenta y seis días, el grupo llegó a Kupang , en Timor Occidental, en la isla de Timor. Timor estaba entonces bajo el control de los holandeses. Los Bryant y su equipo afirmaron ser sobrevivientes de un naufragio. Más tarde se descubrió que eran condenados británicos, al parecer después de que William se embriagara y confesara en el proceso de jactarse. Para evitar un incidente internacional, fueron enviados de regreso a Gran Bretaña para ser juzgados.
En fin hay tanto que decir sobre esta historia que no acabaría.......
Al final me sentí como la autora que no quería despedirse de Mary y quería inventar un final para ella.
Este libro está basado en hechos reales. Y creanme que después de leerlo que se llevó un pedazo de mi corazón. No tengo palabras para describir el horror que sentí, el dolor y las lágrimas que derramé con esta historia y es que llegó un momento que por todo lloraba. Por la amistad de Mary con los aquellos hombres. Por la bondad de Boswell y Tench, por las pérdidas que sufrió Mary, Mary separándose de sus amigos. Todo es tan intenso. Mary es un personaje que llegas a admirar y más porque sabes que fue real, no puedo sino sentir admiración por ella y quiero pensar que todos aquellos amigos tuvieron su final feliz.
Que haría una sin un amigo? Hasta en la más terrible tormenta no falta el amigo que no podrá evitar que llueva pero estará ahí contigo y será tu sombrilla (paraguas).
No sé si odiar a Will, porque de verdad lo odié pero también entendí como Mary lo cuidó a pesar de lo que Will ocasionó. Tantas cosas que pasaron juntos en ese bote que cuando por fin saborearon un poco de libertad todo se derrumbó.
Los hijos de los esclavos. Por Dios!!!! Es horrible todo por lo que pasaban en aquellos tiempos. Es inhumano, era horrible.
Ha sido una maravillosa experiencia conocer la historia de Mary.
Gracias a Tench y Boswell porque hicieron su parte en la vida de Mary y aunque no fue suficiente fue tan lindo conocerlos. Estoy totalmente encariñada con Emmanuel, Charlotte, Mary, James, Nat, Bill, Sam, William, Jamie, Tench y Boswell.
Estoy en este momento con los sentimientos a flor de piel.

El 28 de marzo de 1791, William y Mary Bryant, los niños, en compañía de sus compañeros William Allen, James Martin , Samuel Bird alias John Simms, Samuel Broom alias John Butcher, James Cox alias Rolt, Nathaniel Lillie y William Morton Navegante), roban un bote y escapan.
Después de un viaje de sesenta y seis días, el grupo llegó a Kupang , en Timor Occidental, en la isla de Timor. Timor estaba entonces bajo el control de los holandeses. Los Bryant y su equipo afirmaron ser sobrevivientes de un naufragio. Más tarde se descubrió que eran condenados británicos, al parecer después de que William se embriagara y confesara en el proceso de jactarse. Para evitar un incidente internacional, fueron enviados de regreso a Gran Bretaña para ser juzgados.
En fin hay tanto que decir sobre esta historia que no acabaría.......
Al final me sentí como la autora que no quería despedirse de Mary y quería inventar un final para ella.
Este libro está basado en hechos reales. Y creanme que después de leerlo que se llevó un pedazo de mi corazón. No tengo palabras para describir el horror que sentí, el dolor y las lágrimas que derramé con esta historia y es que llegó un momento que por todo lloraba. Por la amistad de Mary con los aquellos hombres. Por la bondad de Boswell y Tench, por las pérdidas que sufrió Mary, Mary separándose de sus amigos. Todo es tan intenso. Mary es un personaje que llegas a admirar y más porque sabes que fue real, no puedo sino sentir admiración por ella y quiero pensar que todos aquellos amigos tuvieron su final feliz.
Que haría una sin un amigo? Hasta en la más terrible tormenta no falta el amigo que no podrá evitar que llueva pero estará ahí contigo y será tu sombrilla (paraguas).
No sé si odiar a Will, porque de verdad lo odié pero también entendí como Mary lo cuidó a pesar de lo que Will ocasionó. Tantas cosas que pasaron juntos en ese bote que cuando por fin saborearon un poco de libertad todo se derrumbó.
Los hijos de los esclavos. Por Dios!!!! Es horrible todo por lo que pasaban en aquellos tiempos. Es inhumano, era horrible.
Ha sido una maravillosa experiencia conocer la historia de Mary.
Gracias a Tench y Boswell porque hicieron su parte en la vida de Mary y aunque no fue suficiente fue tan lindo conocerlos. Estoy totalmente encariñada con Emmanuel, Charlotte, Mary, James, Nat, Bill, Sam, William, Jamie, Tench y Boswell.
Estoy en este momento con los sentimientos a flor de piel.

Τελειωνοντας αυτο το βιβλιο ενιωσα λες κ εκανα ολο αυτο το δυσκολο ταξιδι εγω η ιδια. Σαν να παλεψα για την επιβιωση μου κ βιωσα ολη αυτη την ταλαιπωρια. Δεν περιμενα την εξελιξη της ιστοριας μετα τις Ινδιες. Ειναι συγκινητικοτατη. Περα απο τις αραιες προσπαθειες της συγγραφεας να δωσει μια αρλεκινγκ διασταση στις περιπετειες, μου αρεσε πολυ πως ανεδειξε ολα τα θετικα στοιχεια της προσωπικοτητας της ηρωιδας οπως η ανθρωπια της, το θαρρος της, το ανοιχτο μυαλο της, η καλοσυνη της, η ανικανοτητα της να κρατα κακια κ κυριωε το γεγονος οτι δεν κατηγορησε ποτε κανεναν για την τυχη της. Υπεροχη ιστορια. Ηξερα οτι οι πρωτοι κατοικοι της Αυστραλιας ηταν καταδικοι αλλα δεν γνωριζα ουτε πως τους εστελναν εκει, ουτε τις συνθηκες διαβιωσης τους εκει. Αλλοι μια απάνθρωπη συμοεριφορα του ανθρωπικου είδους για την οποια ντρεπομαι.
