It's time for Queen Victoria's Jubilee. Monarchs from around the world have brought her gifts so priceless they are held under guard in the Tower of London. But someone is stealing the gifts, one by one. How does the thief continue to get past the guards? And who is the "Giant Rat" the boys are warned about.
This story is based on a quote in one of Conan Doyle's stories which is to the effect that, The Case of the Giant Rat of Sumatra is a case to fearful for the public to be told. This children's novel was an interesting interpretation of Doyle's vague reference. But the only thing fearful about it was how easily the criminals pulled it off. And still no Watson. The plot was well constructed and there is plenty of action but this book just didn't stand the test of time. Great for young readers but not very interesting to a hard core Doyle fan.
