A dated book (1997) and two-thirds of the book deals with the early 1990s, however the first third -- the introduction and history sections are enlightening as they delve more into the why and how rather than reiterating what happened when. More background for the Middle East North Africa group "cruise."

Part of the Conflict and Crisis in the post-cold war world series by Facts on File. Of all the non-fiction books I've read recently about Algeria, this one was the most accessible and clearly written. Unfortunately it doesn't cover the last 14 years and the Algerian challenges continue.
