It's 1964 in groovy New York City and there's only one man Bebe Bennett can think about besides dreamy secret agents like James Bond-her dreamy boss at the Merryweather Toy Shoppe on Fifth Avenue, Bradley Williams. But when the shop's mascot, Mr. Skidoo the clown, turns up dead with a toy sword plunged into his chest, Bebe has to use her latest sleuthing skills culled from the new Bond movies and her fave show, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., to catch a clown killer, save the store, and win Bradley's heart.
I really enjoyed this ending to the series. This was a groovy series set in the 1960's and I enjoyed Bebe's adventures in NYC. The mystery was good, this time Bebe was working in a toy store and there was an interesting cast of characters. I liked that everything was resolved in the main characters lives and I felt there was closure. I would have enjoyed more adventures but I'm happy with how this ended.
I think this is book 3 in the series although not having read the first two, I had no problem picking this one up. A little silly but fun, the main character Bebe is more like a young, naive and slightly inept Girl from U.N.C.L.E. than a female James Bond. Love the 60s setting and references (like her killer go-go boots) but didn't really care for the ending too much.
Wonderful ending to a short series. Although there was more romance than mystery in this book, I wanted to see what would happen between Bebe Bennett and her boss Bradley Williams. I loved reading about the Merriweather Toy Store and all the people who wore costumes to portray characters in the store (think of FAO Schwartz back in the early/mid-1960s), such as Train Conductor, Princess, Mr. Skidoo the clown, Teddy Bear, Raggedy Anne, etc. Furthermore, I just loved reading about the fashions from that era with the go-go boots, minidresses, beehive hairdoos ... it brought me back to when I was a young girl and saw those fashions I loved!
This book was really groovy and I am sad that it has ended but happy with how the series has ended.
