Suddenly, Last Summer

Rate this book
TREY BARNES
I professed my love for Jordy when I was seventeen. He was leaving for his last year of medical school after working another summer at my family’s Banks Lake resort in the Pacific Northwest.
Desperate for him to know how I felt even though he was my older brother’s best friend, and fearing that he wouldn’t return after that summer, I decided to take the plunge and admit my feelings while I had the chance.
As the adult in the situation, Jordy wisely chose to discount my confession as simply a teenage crush. But my last spoken words to him were that I’d wait patiently for him.

And I always kept my promises.

JORDY HALL
I’d been away from my small hometown for nearly five years. Life and a stressful medical residency had kept me busy, but I finally returned to fulfill my best-man duties for my best friend’s upcoming wedding.
His younger brother, Trey, was a sweet, sensitive kid when I left years ago. The shy, lean teenager who’d tearfully professed his love for me my last summer there had grown into a sexy, confident man. I was intrigued by what I saw, though I probably should have walked away again.
Had he actually waited for me to return? Did I hope he had? He was nine years my junior and my best friend’s little brother. But he could be so much more.

After five long years, it was suddenly last summer.

Look, this book just wasn't ready to be published. It's more like a rough draft.

The characters are one-dimensional, the writing is stilted, the conversations are cringe-inducing and the pacing is all over the place.

Trey & Jordy grew up together so they know each other, sure, but it takes until 30% in until they meet again after 5 years apart. Then 2 weeks later Trey is getting upset when Jordy is pressured by Brock to go stay with him instead, I mean, Brock's a dick but it is his wedding, and Jordy is the best man. No, Trey's talking about Jordy "leaving their home". Relax, dude. Then he's all: "I’d patiently waited five years for Jordy, but I wouldn’t wait another week." OK!!!

There are moments where the book just randomly skips over days where in theory there should have been developments? Jordy was planning the big reveal of their relationship at the wedding rehearsal but it's literally just skipped. Then we skip 3 days after he does tell everyone, very publicly, at the wedding. OK???

The vibes with Skippy were so off, that whole plotline made me uncomfortable. I feel so bad for him, but why bring any of that up and then just not deal with it?

Derek was a wanker, but Jordy wasn't really very clear with him either - real low move letting him give you that blowjob, stud (oh lord that word is so overused in this book) - so I don't even know who's to blame for that weird conflict.

Then all the parts with Brock were just absurd. He and Cherie were caricatures, just cardboard stand-ins for actual antagonists or secondary characters.

Actually, this whole book was wack, I can't believe I finished this.

On to the writing itself.

I don't think I've ever laughed out loud reading sex scenes, and that, unfortunately, is not a compliment.
I was instantly hard and he held my balls in his hand and massaged me slowly while we kissed tenderly. He tasted like pickles. Whereas that would seem unsexy to some, we had a habit of scarfing down large quantities of pickles while we watched a movie or worked at the store, and I was reminded of snuggling and kissing. We were both crazy for them.

I had to read this a few times to even understand the sentence.

“I like the idea of you being my boy even though you are clearly all man, more like my Daddy, so don’t confuse it with anything bad,” he stated. “Just a hot fantasy I’ve had about you this past week. Fuck me and we can revisit this discussion later.” “Can we try doggy?” I asked. “Someone’s watching gay porn.”

The further I got into this book, the more obvious the weird writing became. It reads like it was written by a non-native English speaker, just something really off about it. It's like the author is allergic to using contractions
That had been my first inkling that I had hoped he might still feel love for me.

and determined to make sentences convoluted.
I was in the bedroom I’d shared with Brock when we’d resided here as a family unit.

This needs a major edit.

“No, of course not,” I defended. “I intended new as in you came home and found out I’d waited for you,” I defended.

Huh?

Ok, that's enough. I'm probably being mean now so I'm gonna call it quits, but this one was really bad and I'd recommend you don't read it unless you enjoy suffering, like I do apparently.

The two-star rating is for the work the author put into this book and for the writing style, which I found to be very detailed and good.
Ranting ahead ...

really loved Trey, and his parents and his uncle are cute as fuck … all the rest can go to hell.

this week the reading dragged on a bit and then I picked up this book to finally get through it. maybe not the wisest decision. however ... the writing style is ok. in places it's perfect. the overall plot is good, I like the idea behind it.
But as always, you have two main characters who fall in love with each other. One is cute and very lovable, but the other is an absolute fool. I couldn't find a single positive feeling in me for Jordy. I hated his attitude, I hated his behavior. He has no balls, he's mean, and I absolutely could not understand him. And the POV jumps back and forth between Jordy and Trey, so half the book was not good for me.
I don't think it was wise of the author to use such an unlikable character. I don't want to give the book a negative rating just because I didn't like the plot. I can live with a plot that makes me uncomfortable, but I have to be able to sympathize with the main characters or it falls flat. And we read romance novels, so it should be a little bit romantic ...
The plot and the behavior of the characters is a constant up and down, as if the book was written by two people who could not come to terms.
The sex scenes are good for the most part. But even here ...

Trey’s first time fucking Jordy: We didn’t move as I focused on my dick entering his ass. The feelings of want and desire were invading my mind. Several more inches and he’d be in my control. This was my man. This was my hole and all I wanted to do was use it.

Trey is still a virgin and out of nowhere he is suddenly kinky and seems much more experienced than he was portrayed. I like a good Daddy/boy-kink, but it just didn't fit together at all, and it's not presented consistently but just integrated there as a bit of dirty talk.
This stupid family drama, this annoying ex-boyfriend, this shitshow of a brother. No sooner do Jordy and Trey find each other than there is something again that drives them apart, even again 10 pages before the end because Jordy can't decide again ... God this was like a fucking bad soap.
I wanted to kill half the characters and shake Jordy until he finally stopped hurting Trey over and over again. This book made me super aggressive.

“Tell me you don’t want me, Jordy, or finally give me the physical release I’m craving so badly.”

Does that sound like a line from a bad telenovela, or is it just me?

Up until this point, I’ve been mostly bored, occasionally laughing out loud at Trey’s BFF Skippy and his tiny peanut brain, and raising my eyebrows at some really awkward phrases, but that first sex scene turned ‘awkward’ into ‘cringy AF.’ I won’t force myself to read that just to finish an otherwise unremarkable ‘love story’ that I’d forget soon after.

The one thing that did stand out here was a surprisingly stereotypical and unflattering portrayal of gay men who were not as virtuous and pure as the 22 year-old Trey, which came off as preachy. Did not expect that in a book written by a (queer?) male author in 2023.

Loved it❤️

This book was just lovely.♥️ Low angst, high steam, lots of sweet pining, and beautiful emotionally charged moments between loving family members. ♥️
Jordy and Trey will steal your heart in an instant - their love is so pure, so gentle and beautiful, it stands the test of time and tramples any obstacles that stand in the way of their well deserved HEA.♥️
Michael Robert always has a message to the reader he gently delivers through his excellent storytelling. In this book, I believe it is all about self-love, acceptance , and gaining emotional maturity through the nurture of loving relationships. We indeed make our own path, setting our own standards when it comes to romantic relationships. Seeing Jordy struggle with reconciling his needs with what has been deeply ingrained in him as a much lower bar of commitment by his previous partners and his supposed best friend was absolutely heartbreaking.♥️
In his misguided attempt to placate and appease everyone, he almost loses Trey. It was absolutely delightful to watch Trey simply flourish when he knows Jordy feels the same way about him. He naturally takes charge, and page after page becomes the man he aspires to be for Jordy. When push comes to shove, he stands his ground and shows Jordy exactly what he's in for should he be brave and fight for their relationship. ♥️
Trey, as the young, naturally dominant, physically bigger partner, was bananas hot ❤️🥵 Oh my god, every time he directed Jordy and instructed/praised him, you bet your sweet ass I was mouthing, Yes Daddy🤤 Hot AF❤️
These two had incredible chemistry, and yeah, that was so sensual. It bled through the pages. But what really got me to loving these characters the most was the effortless emotional intimacy they shared - loving touch and profound understanding of their ethical and moral backbone, shared values.❤️
Loved it❤️

Loved this story so much, but why does it hurt so much to love someone!! The pining nearly done me in!

Trey lived his life on his family’s resort, it’s all he knew but he loved it, he grew up with his brother and Jordy, his brothers best friend, as he got older he knew he loved him, but Jordy was older and off to medical school. Trey took his chance and told Jordy how he felt incase he didn’t get another chance, but ended up getting his heartbroken.

Jordy was like a son to the Barnes family, he worked his summers there along with the barnes brothers, but now he’s off to the big city and he didn’t think he’d be back. When Trey told him he loved him, he left without a word because he was a minor and didn’t understand love. But now Jordy is back in his home town and Trey is no longer a boy but a man.

Trey us such a grounded, selfless man, a beautiful soul who committed to his feelings and didn’t waver, for him his friends and family were all he needed, it was enough for him.
At times I was frustrated with Jordy, I wanted to shake him to wake him up and see what was right in front of him! He was so used to just doing what other people wanted that he ended up punishing himself for the things he wanted. I loved that Trey was the strong one in the relationship, I loved the power exchange and I love a size difference!! Found family’s are my favourite, they tend to be the best people and your biggest supporters. I wish I had a dad like Horey, he was so loving and understanding but knew when to push to get the best out of Trey!

We won’t talk about Brock because what a douche bag!!

But I loved skippy who was an emotional mess and self destructive, but great friend to Trey.

Great sweet, low angst but kept me turning the pages read and can’t wait to see what’s next!

Plot: 🔅🔅🔅🔅🔅++
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Angst: 🥺🥺

Tropes:
🔅 Brother’s Best Friend
🔅 Second Chance
🔅 Daddy/Boy
🔅 Age-Gap
🔅 Friendship

Something Drew me to this book right from the start. The discrepancy of the title. How can something be sudden, when it is in the past? I had to read this book.

The great part is when your intuition turns out to be spot on!

Suddenly, Last Summer is a spectacular book in all it’s subtlety.

Here’s why:

💛 the book succeeds in the delicate balance between being well-paced but still a slow-burn. Through the dual POV and the extensive use of flashbacks, the reader gets to experience the pining and heartache first hand.
💛 Even though, this is a love story, friendship and family are at the very core. The side-characters are just as important as the two MCs. That makes for a book with amazing characterization. This is as much Trey’s and Skippy’s story as it is Jordy’s & Trey’s.
💛 The reverse role play was so freaking hot! Some of the hottest, I’ve read in a long time. And the reason for this was not only that I love boy/daddy vibes - no, it’s because it was used as a strong characterization tool. Genious, if you ask me. Sexually as well as emotionally, Trey transitions from boy to man:

“You were the nicest boy I knew, Jordy. You still are.”

“I want you to be mine, Jordy. I want to be your man.”

And that is basically the missing puzzle piece in Jordy’s life. He needs a man. A dominant counterpart. And ironically, he finds that missing piece in the maturity of the 8-year younger Trey:

“Are you done?” he asked patiently.
“Mmm-hmmm,” I mumbled. “And you deserve better,” I added to make sure he knew I wasn’t worthy of him.
“Then I guess we have a problem because I don’t want anyone but you. What am I going to do if you don’t love me back?” he asked. “Who can I protect? Who can I root for?”

Isn’t that what we all basically want? Someone in our corner. Who believes in us when we no longer believe in ourselves?

I absolutely loved this book. Books like Suddenly, Last Summer are the reason why I read.

*I rcvd an ARC from the author and this is my honest review

thank-You-10

Okay so hey.. 👋 I have lots to say.

Let's start by AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

and then let's go with asjhdkdkshdgzksjshgdkskzh

And now let's be profesh : MY EXPECTATIONS WERE HIGH, BUT HOLY SHIT.. DID THE AUTHOR DELIVER 🔥

Now. It's been a while since I read something emotional that I actually liked so excuse my excitement. When I tell you that I'm legit NOT a fan of ✨emotions✨ but at the same time I ate this shit up... you better believe me.

Welcome to Electric city. It's literally the tiniest place somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Okay fine.. it's in the middle of Washington.

Let's begin with Trey. His family owns a small resort there. Jordy is his brother's best friend. He grew up with them basically so he's considered to be "family".

Well jokes on us because next thing I know.. Trey is confessing his love to him but he gets rejected. Well. Not exactly. Jordy explained to him that he's too young and he "can't" love him in this way because they are "supposed" to be family.

Little did I know that this idea of "we can't be together because we're too close" was actually coming directly from Brock -Trey's big brother- and not Jordy. That fucker had guilt trapped him. 🤬

So Jordy leaves and doesn't come back for quite some time.

Five years later... Brock is getting married and Jordyn is the best man. So him and Trey meet again. 👀

Did I love seeing them reconnect? Yes.
Did I like the blurred lines around that? No.

Trey had been lonely all these years and didn't make a move with any other guy because he was always waiting for Jordy. And now that they actually have their chance... Jordy is again holding back for reasons I can't say.

I was pissed y'all. My boy deserved to be loved back.

Anyway.

I can't finish my review without mentioning my baby.. Skippy 🥺

I have one thing to say about him. DENIAL IS A RIVER IN EGYPT. His closet is made of so much glass that you can't even tell it's there. IYKYK. 🖤

I did not expect that another book would top the ranch or the crow flies free.. but jokes on me because this is now my favourite book from Michael. 🦋

P.s: If I don't get a book about Skippy I'm going to release hell upon everyone 😭

The premise of being in love with your brothers best friend, I’m totally here for that. But this execution leaves a lot to be desired.

The first sex scene had me cringing so hard. But I genuinely had second hand embarrassment by the second one. Overused pet names. Awkward sex scenes made worse by trying too hard. And the Daddy kink was not done well.

Trey is all about showing he’s an adult now and how grown up he is. But he’s written very immaturely in a lot the scenes. And his brother good lord…I have no words for his level of douche baggery.

I was hoping it would improve as it went on but it really didn't. I found the lines to be very repetitive too. It’s a below average read for me.

This is a new-to-me author and I liked the sound of the blurb. Small town guy (Jordy) comes home for his best friend's wedding and has to face the boy (Trey - brother of said best friend) he left behind. Trey confessed his love for Jordy just before Jordy leaves for medical school. As Trey was only 17, Jordy pretty much left that unacknowledged and put it down to a teenage crush. However, when he comes home, he finds Trey is ALL grown up and still waiting for him.

There's drama here with Jordy's best friend and Trey's brother Derek (who is an asshole), some weirdness with Skip, Trey's best friend in terms if his own sexuality (which was all just kind of confusing) and a bit of a mystery.

Overall, I found this an oddly compelling read despite some really significant issues I had with it:
🔸Skip's portrayal as a Native American / First Nation's man - I'm from Australia and if one of our First Nations people was portrayed in this way it would be really offensive (e.g. how he was so "carefree" and "simple"). It might be different in the US but it just made me really uncomfortable. That along with the clumsy exploration of his sexuality was a bit hard to read. Maybe it was intended that way and I just missed it 🤷‍♀️
🔸Trey's virginity - the dude was sooo uptight and didn't even know how to kiss at 22 years old, yet once they had sex a couple of times he was all dirty talk and "call me Daddy". It just didn't quite fit
🔸 Some of the descriptive language just made me cringe. Again, this could just be a me-thing but

"The young piece of hot meat was my guy"

"his love stick in my mouth"

Yeah - just didn't work for me.

Nonetheless, overall there was a lot I liked about it. Trey was sweet and wise for his years. The supportive parents and friends and the surprise with Derek's fiance was welcome.

Beautiful Love Story

This is a slow burn, low angst story with lots of emotion and heat but essentially a love story. Trey and Jordy’s love story. It was written in dual POV which I enjoy and I liked the flashbacks which gave us more of an insight into the development of the characters.

There is a strong family connection and I particularly fell in love with Trey. He is a very special character with a beautiful innocence but his maturity when it came to love and romance was unique. The story mainly focused on the developing relationship between Trey and Jordy but running alongside it was also the relationship between Trey and his best friend Skippy. I adored Skippy, his naivety, his love and total dependence on his best friend and the way Trey would do anything to protect him. I wanted to wrap him up in a warm hug.

Jordy had issues of insecurity and struggled with relationships always picking the wrong type. He lost his parents at seventeen and had a toxic best friend which probably had something to do with it. Brock and Trey’s parents are lovely. They take him in and love him like another son. He has been best friends with Brock for years and always had a connection with the much younger Trey. The day Jordy leaves for Med school Trey tells him he loves him and will always love him. Jordy leaves without responding.

Five years on Jordy was jaded and not sure if he wanted to progress with his medical fellowship so his boss gives him the summer off to recharge his batteries and decide on his future. Brock is getting married in a few weeks and so for the first time in five years he goes home.

As Trey promised he was waiting. His love for Jordy is real and beautiful in its purity, Trey is still a virgin. As Trey realises that Jordy does loves him you can see the change in him as he becomes the man Jordy can depend on and the man he always aspired to be, taking control in the bedroom and becoming the dominant partner was hot and the emotional intimacy they shared deep. The
boy/daddy vibes and the shift in control, young virgin / experienced older guy was different. Who knew that Jordy wanted to hand over the reins in that part of their relationship.

This is Michael at his best, telling a story with strong characters and strong emotional family ties and also throwing in a character we all love to hate.

I received an ARC in return for an honest opinion.

Absolutely beautiful story!!

Suddenly, Last Summer
By Michael Robert
5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s

So author Michael Robert has hit the mark again with his newest release Suddenly, Last Summer... it's amazing and I loved it!!  As always the story is unique, the characters are wonderful, there's some amazing family and found family, and of course the one who everyone will love to hate. Plus some edge of your seat fingernail biting wanting the mc's to get their happily ever after!!

Trey's love for Jordy had me in tears. Sorrowful ones for when Jordy left for medical school and the various times throughout the story that he was hurting for his man. And joyful ones for those times you could feel his happiness bursting through his soul. Trey was definitely wise beyond his years when it came to life and love. I loved that he wasn't willing to accept less than what he deserved no matter how much he loved Jordy.

Jordy was smart, kind and generous but due to losing his parents earlier in life he was scared of losing his found family if he pursued a relationship with their son...he desperately needed that love, acceptance, and belonging the family gave him.. Plus I think he was scared to trust in his own decisions. Once he got over the age gap and truly believed in the love they shared it was just beautiful!! And they were on fire for each other!!🔥🔥🔥

I've gotta mention a few awessome side characters now. Firstly, I fell in love with Trey's parents right away especially his Dad was one of a kind. Next we have Trey's bestie Skippy...he was hilarious and had me in stitches but he also broke my heart (you'll see why when you read it). Then, Uncle Jack...loved his grumpy, straight shooting ways!! We won't mention Trey's brother and wife to be Cherie and their drama causing selves!!

Anyways, in case you couldn't tell I highly recommend this book and this author!!

Incredible Brother Best Friend Romance & So Much More!!!

Let me tell you. Michael Robert is one of my absolute favorites. And when he ever told me he was writing a brothers best friend mm romance book, I screamed with joy so loud! I love this trope soooo much. He did it so much justice. It is absolutely incredible.

Trey is an amazing character. He has the biggest heart taking care of his best friend, his parents and his uncle constantly. Put them before himself. All he has ever wanted was his brothers best friend Jordy. But when he tells Jordy how he feels and Jordy doesn’t seem to feel the same, Trey is destroyed.

But have no fear, but it can’t end there! Sooo much awesomeness happens! Jordy has to come back, bringing back all those feelings. Just wait, this book is sooooo steamy! The twists that come with the will they won’t they back and forth. Sooo good. Sooo hot! Much devour!!!

A long overdue first read of Michael’s work and his level of literary excellence so blows me away!! The passion in this story was fierce and mindblowing, don't get me started with the sensual side of things. Michael touched me on many different levels with the various emotions felt throughout the story, ready to end a few characters' existences because of their choices. All in all, this was a very low-angst story that had me anxiously turning the page.

𝐻𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝑔𝑒𝓉𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑜𝒻𝒻 𝑜𝓃 𝓂𝑒 𝓁𝓊𝓈𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝒽𝒾𝓂. 𝐼 𝓈𝓌𝒶𝓁𝓁𝑜𝓌𝑒𝒹 𝒹𝑒𝑒𝓅𝓁𝓎. “𝒩𝑜 𝑜𝓃𝑒?” 𝐼 𝓌𝒽𝒾𝓈𝓅𝑒𝓇𝑒𝒹.

“𝐸𝓋𝑒𝓇?”“𝒩𝑜 𝑜𝓃𝑒,” 𝒽𝑒 𝒹𝑒𝒸𝓁𝒶𝓇𝑒𝒹. “𝐸𝓋𝑒𝓇.”

I loved everything about Trey and Jordy!! Even though there were a few times I wanted to slap some sense into Jordy, he always found his way. Their dynamic was powerful and effective, working in their favor in every aspect of their relationship. And I have to say I loved the shift in control with the characters—a nice change of scenery with the younger character being headstrong and guiding the older one. The intensity of their scenes was frequent and heated; I am officially a lifetime fan!

Side characters were a great addition to the story, starting with Uncle Jack because we all need or have one. Skippy was a fantastic friend, and their friendship just worked for everyone. The parents were charming but never figured out where they went wrong with Brock. So excited for future reads from this author; he officially acquired a lifelong fan as long as he continues!!

Here’s the thing about Michael Robert: he can write a setting. A community. A cast of characters that come alive in the worlds he creates. This is another testament to that. Skippy, Uncle Jack, the whole crazy lot of ‘em.

The Jordy and Trey love story is very sweet and full of the hallmarks of a second-chance, brother’s best friend trope.

🧡Review🧡

“I wanted him to be mine. I wanted to control him sexually and lead the way in our love story.”

I spent today binging this book. Suddenly, Last Summer by Michael Robert, was excellent. I got caught up in the story and couldn’t put it down!

Highlights:
🧡second chance
🧡best friend’s brother
🧡small town
🧡forced proximity
🧡virgin MC
🧡age gap
🧡mild daddy kink
🧡steamy
🧡found family

I adored both Trey and Jordy, however, Trey stole the show for me. The pining and steadfast love he felt for Jordy was amazing. I just fell in love with his character.🧡🧡

I felt a connection to the backdrop to the story, as I too grew up near a lake that seemed very similar to the lake in the book. My husband and I spent many summers on the lake causing trouble when we were younger, so I loved that this story brought up those memories for me. 😉🤗

Favorite quote:
“I wanted to tell Jordy I loved him because it feels like a different sort of love. It hurts when he’s here and it hurts when he leaves. It hurts when I’m around him, hurts when I’m not. It just hurts. All the time.”

⚠️CW: homophobic slurs

I highly enjoyed this book, so I cannot wait to read more from this author! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Brilliant, incredible, outstanding stellar dialogue….did I mention the dialogue? First time author and I’ll surely be reading all his books!! This author can tell a story and build characters superbly, and I can truly say after one book, he is 💯 one of the BEST at it!

I feel like I lived this story with the characters. The side characters are superb right along with the main! My favorite of course is Skippy!! God bless that sweet, hilarious naive guy! Mad mad love for him! Trey and Skippy’s friendship is one of the most loyal and one of the most fun for sure! I did so much laughing out loud at Treys and Skippy’s conversations and shenanigans!! Also mad love for grumpy Uncle Jack and his brutal, but funny honesty! Another favorite is the big mushball, “Horey” Barnes, Trey’s dad. We see why Trey is such a stand up guy…his beautiful father. And this is another outstanding (father/son) relationship in the book!

Trey is one gorgeous hunk of a guy and what a beautiful soul! What an incredible human being! Sweet & smart, successful handsome but lost Jordy finally found his hearts desire in Trey! And of course it was right in front of his eyes the entire time, but their hard fought journey of love was worth every tear and challenge that was brought their way! And the chemistry between Jordy & Trey…. um……flew off the pages🔥🔥🥵🥵🥵❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥🚨🚨🚨🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒🤤🤤🤤🤤

I’m so glad Brock got what he deserved in the end. The boy would fair well from therapy, maybe. It’s so bizarre when you see a child so completely different and opposite of both beautiful, kind and peaceful parents. They are all about love, kindness and goodness! But hey, it happens, c’est la vie!!

And that little twist at the end is perfection! I did not expect it, which made it all the more delicious!! Can’t give it away! But that little tiny twist was a lot of fun!!

Bravo!! Bravo Michael Robert! This book deserves awards!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This is a beautiful romance and the story has everything…. ALL.THE.FEELS & ALL.THE.STARS! You will laugh and you will cry, but I guarantee this book is worth it all! Don’t hesitate, pick it up now and read it!! You will mostly laugh!!

WOW, what a wonderful reading! I couldn’t stop turning the pages, yelling “GRRRRR” and wanting to whack the back of this MC’s head in exasperation while despising this one minor character with such intensity!!!! I truly appreciate Michael Robert’s intention with this story especially the fact it takes place by the lake. Reading this story brings back this warm and fuzzy memory of spending my vacation during a summer many moons ago at my uncle’s residence by the lake. Definitely more than 5 stars and this one will go in my “LOVE” book pile!

The story focuses on Trey, a strappin’ handsome lad who 5 years prior to the story was 17 years old when he professed his love for Jordan who was about 5-6 years older and happens to be Trey’s older brother’s best friend. Jordan was taken aback by this and simply left. This broke Trey’s heart. Thankfully, Trey had understanding parents. Jordan left to complete his medical studies to become a doctor.

5 years later, Trey’s brother was getting married and wanted the wedding ceremony to be held at the resort that Trey’s parents owns. Trey’s brother reached out to Jordan and wanted him in the wedding party. The wedding was to take place at the close end of the summer. At that time Jordan was at the point where he wasn’t sure where he wanted to do his medical fellowship. He also had ended his relationship with his boyfriend. With that opportunity, he decided to spend the summer helping Trey and his parents out at the resort. That’s where I’m going to stop and have you pick up the book to read to find out what happens, why I said GRRR about this MC and the K.A.R.M.A. for this minor character! Happy reading!

I just finished because I wanted to know if there was a plot twist, but is wasn’t. I don’t like to rate 1 star without saying why. It was very predictable from page 1.

The plot looked nice, but the story it became so much less that what I was expected. I didn’t like the way it was written, the MCs were very poor developed, and all the mean secundary character fought dirty all the time unnecessarily. All the repetitive information. And the sex scenes and the awful dirty talking. Nothing was ok for me in this novel.

I am sorry I didn’t like it.

Great M/M romance read!

I’m kind of upset that Trey isn’t a real, available, hetero man…also kind of jealous that this author was able to think up such a diamond in the rough. I truly loved so many aspects of this book. From the young love to the emotional development to the steamy scenes and everything in between. I mean any book with a finger trick in it is gonna be good! Definitely ends with a HEA and an epilogue.

This story has so many strengths to it. The main characters, their love story, friends and even enemies all add flavor to this book. Trey and Jordy are fine characters, in fact you can’t help but root for them. Brock, excellent villain! Their journey was one that had a gamut of emotions attached and all drew the reader in. Enjoyable for sure. One small thing, however. The Fox News statement I felt to be in poor taste. I tire easily of authors using their influence to deride opposing ideas that they stand against. I can only assume there is zero tolerance for Fox News as it’s belittled here. I’m no fan of any News outlet these days so I favor none. To each their own in your belief and convictions let’s just keep them private and live and let live. Love stories that are unbiased and accepting of differences are the favorite I’ve found. This romance, this journey on its own merits, is a good one. Not intended as a harsh criticism of the storyline just a different perspective perhaps. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

Yes… but no? Like I’m not sure why, but it sucked me in — I mean, I usually read this stuff for an escape and escape I did, mission accomplished. Rounding up because it kept me curious and hit some favored tropes with enough spice.

That said, I had moments of mental side eye.

Author Michael Robert just gets better and better with every new book. In this book, Trey has been in love with his older brother's best friend Jordy since Trey's teen years. Confessing his love at age 17 when Jordy was setting off for medical school, Jordy rightly did not respond to his interest. Now, five years later, Jordy is returning to town for the brother's wedding and to stay for the summer. Trey is now an adult and still in love with Jordy. Can these two find their forever love, especially when Trey's older brother is vehemently opposed? This book has angst galore, a gambit of emotions, hidden agendas, some difficulties in communicating, a ton of passion, and a beautiful lasting love.

5 years ago, Trey confessed his feelings for Jordy, but his heart was broken when Jordy left Electric City for California to attend medical school.

Jordy’s latest relationship is in shambles, so on a whim, he takes the summer off to head back home to work at Trey’s parents' resort, while he contemplates whether he’ll stay in his hometown or return to California. Once faced with one another, it doesn’t take long for Trey to finally get what he’s always wanted, Jordy, but will their new relationship last?

Ugh, I don’t even know where to begin. This was a promising read and at first, I really enjoyed it. Then Jordy comes back to town, and it took until nearly 35% for the characters to actually even communicate with one another.

First, I’m surprised the town didn’t flood with the amount of tears these characters shed throughout the story. It seemed someone was crying every other page!

These characters, Jordy, Trey, Brock, and Skippy, were all in their 20’s, but you would never know it by their actions. I mean Jordy and Brock are nearly 30 and still, they all acted like a bunch of kids. They were extremely immature.

The sex scenes between Jordy and Trey were awkward and cringy, and then the author added in daddy kink, and yeah, no thanks! The sex was so NOT hot.

The sub-plot featuring Brock, Trey’s douchebag older brother, was a bit far-fetched and added drama where drama wasn’t needed.

The premise of the story was good, and it did start out well, I couldn’t put it down at first, but I’m sorry to say that, this just didn’t fully work for me. The story had great potential and truthfully, I enjoyed the author’s writing style, I think the story needed a good beta reader/editor to weed out the cringy and over-the-top scenes.

I love the push and pull and “when will finally, or not?” of any novel. But when the novel is written so seamlessly, and moves at a perfect pace, over the perfect pitch—it’s the best—that’s this gloriously hot gay romance. My first one, and definitely not my last. Robert uses setting splendidly to pepper the already hot vibe.

I was right there. Spending the summer cheering on the love and lust for Trey and Jordy, like a nosy neighbor, clutching her coffee cup. Robert is an excellent writer, stories rich, but not heavily bogged down in unnecessary details like so many romances are.

I look forward to going through his catalog, one delicious romance at a time. We need more! More!

Seventeen-year-old Trey Barnes had always understood that his love and affection for Jordy Hall would never change.

He would wait!

Jordy Hall realised Trey’s feelings suddenly, one summer......

The Banks family are owners of a resort that employs wonderful and so very interesting people.

This is a beautiful believable love story, side issues arrive which kept me on tenterhooks.

Extremely well written with no unnecessary details, a deep and passionate story told from the heart.

This is the first book I have read by Michael Robert, now I am hooked...

Congratulations Michael.....awesome story.
