Amazing photos of hummingbirds and tons of interesting tidbits on these birds. If you love hummingbirds, you will love this book. I learned that hummingbirds flap their wings 80 times per second. This increases to 300 times per second during courtship. Hummingbirds can fly up to 60 mph during courtship. They can even fly upside down! Their heartbeats can reach up to 1200 beats per minute when they are chasing rivals. They are territorial and they migrate during the fall. I didn't think that hummingbirds would come to this high desert area I live, where there are tons of sagebrush and not many flowers. But the day I put up a hummingbird feeder, there they were! Amazing!
LOVE the pictures, but lost interest because the informational part felt bloated and dry. There was a bit too much focus on scientific terminology for the average reader to really enjoy it. DNF about 50%.
What a beautiful book about all the amazing hummingbirds in our country. I’ve read a lot of different books y this author and I must say, he is the best!
Short on words but no shortage of great photos, this book was a quick read and most of the details about hummingbirds, I'd already learned and truthfully, I would have liked a bit more text, but the amazing pictures made it a worthwhile book to check out from the library. I never get tired of hummingbird photos.
