Gottfried Distl’s novel ICE GOLEM – HOT ADVENTURES WITH A COOL MONSTER takes us back to the Dark Age during the cold war. The year is 1988 when the Iron Curtain still divided Western and Eastern Europe in two separated worlds. Frantisek Havel, a refugee from Prague, escapes the Soviet Regime. But his dream of a better life in the West turns into a nightmare when he finds out that he is a Twentieth Century Golem who is not made of clay like the Golem from the old days but was conceived as a product of modern medical technology, namely by artificial insemination. Something went wrong with the genes on ice and the man machine becomes a mad machine. Everything he touches turns to ice and the refugee from the East has to flee to the end of the world to find solace. There is a war going on in Antarctica with UFOs playing a major part in it. But that's where the Iceman from Prague discovers the secret of the souls of men. ICE GOLEM - HOT ADVENTURES WITH A COOL MONSTER is an English-language revision of Gottfried Distl's German-language novel SNOWMAN GOLEM, with which he supported the GREENPEACE fight for an ANTARCTICA WORLD PARK in 1989. In 2003 a master's thesis was written on Gottfried Distl's GOLEM novel at the University of Cologne with the title “And if monsters lurk behind the limits of order? A motif story of the golem in German literature after 1975."
Gottfried Distl was born in Lower Austria's wine country in 1954. He was inspired by the American Beat Generation and the Poets of the Beat and Pop Revolution of the 1960s to become a Beat Poet and Performance artist. In the 1980s he wrote two hard boiled novels and recorded a couple of German New Wave styled songs. His novel 'Ice Golem - A Hot Adventure with a Cool Monster' and 'The Limit of Songs' are available in English. In 2023 he published 'From the Underground - Multimedia Art, Performances, Beat Poetry, Pop Stories'', a collection of his work from 1972 to 2022.
