3. Summary: A child wishes she could visit the brightest star in the sky. The star comes down to the young girl and takes her on a “magic ride”. They travel through the sky over land, space, and through the dark night over the ocean. The star explains how it watches people grow and helps people find their way back home.
4. Review: This song is comforting showing that the brightest star is always shining down on you every night. The illustrations are beautiful, especially the illustration of Saturn. Children will enjoy singing along to this book with the illustrations and listening to and reading about the magic.
5. Possible In-Class Use: This book can be used to teach rhyming. The teacher would explicitly teach and explain that rhyming words are words that have the same sounds at the end then give some examples while sounding out the examples and have the class follow along. Some of the rhyming words would rhyme with words in the book and some would not. The teacher can go through a couple of pages a day until the children understand rhyming. Another in-class use would be to have the children write or draw where they would want to travel. If the children are interested, this could also be an introduction to learning about the planets for informational texts or the places they would want to travel to. The children could create the planets in small-groups out of various materials and the teacher can hang them on the ceiling as a small scale solar system. This builds creativity, collaboration, communication, and an introduction to astronomy.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, written and illustrated by Iza Trapani is a wonderful rendition of the classic children’s song, as a small start takes a little girl around the sky explaining her job and showing her the wonders of the world. This book is most appropriate for children in kindergarten and first grade, and it has no awards, although it would if I had any say in it. Song book begins with a small star visiting a little girl at her window and bringing her up into the sky around the sun and the planets. She tells the little girl her job as she shines her light down on a young family, kids having a sleepover, and a ship pulling into the harbor. She then brings the girl back to her room and into bed telling her how much of a special start she truly is.
Another wonderful song book for children, Trapani’s story and version of the song uses unbelievably excellent illustrations to help portray meaning. The star as well as the text is printed in a bright gold that makes it jump off the page in a very effective manner, allowing for attention to be drawn to it. The little star at the end telling the little girl how special she is, is a great way of implying the specialness of all children in general. The very last page of the book shows the songs script as well as the notes that can be posted on the board as students sing along with the teacher during the reading. I will no doubt place this book in my library for the kids to take a look at and even use as the center of a lesson. One lesson that can be used with this book is having the kids write their own rendition of the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star sings and share it with the class. Also it can serve as a transition into learning about the solar system as the star does talk about her job and show the little girl some of the planets.

Summary- This is an extended version of the classic nursery. A girl stares out her bedroom window at night and wonders about the starry night sky. This nursery rhyme is about the night sky and what is in the sky. "Up above the world so high" she sees a star that shines "Like a diamond in the sky" and the girl "wonders" about it. Her curiosity about something so beautiful and is described just so in this rhyme.
Review- Iza Trapani use of watercolors in the illustrations and the use of the star really glowing and flowing into the night sky. It is also a very comforting lullaby. I think this is a great book for young readers to perk their curiosity about the sky and even outer space.
2 possible in the class use:
1. Provides opportunities for oral and language development. Rhyming, sound and word discrimination, blending, word segmentation with syllables and phoneme manipulation.
2. Since children who have memorized nursery rhymes becomes better readers because they are able to develop an early sensitivity to the sound of language repetition and sing-alongs to this book are very beneficial and its simple enough for students to commit to memory.

Summary: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star by Iza Trapani is an ongoing version of a classic children’s song. It begins with a little girl that wishes she could fly and from that wish she is taken on a wonderful journey with the star she wished upon. The little star explains her job in the night sky and shows her all the wonderful things of this world. The little girl is filled with awe as she sees the world and as she grows tired the star brings her home and she wishes that star will watch over her from afar.
Analysis: This book is very beautifully written in poetic form to go in hand with the lyrical aspect of the children’s song. This book would be best with younger readers because it has very simplistic textual language. The illustrations were also done by Iza Trapani and they were beautiful as on the journey the star showed her the world and the illustrations captured the awe that the young girl was feeling.
How I would use this book: I would definitely recommend this book for kindergarten and first grade teachers to have their shelfs. This book would be a great introduction to how songs are just like poems. With it being based on a song, it could also be used in a music class.

Original Summary: This was a book about a young girl who wished on a star to be able to be with it and go on adventures together. The girls wish came true and the star came to her and brought her on adventures all over the place. The star taught the little girl the importance of its job then took her home and promised to watch over her always.

Original Review: This book is a wonderful way to teach children not only about making their dreams come true but also about the importance of the role of stars. The book is a great way to teach them that they can always make their dreams come true if they work hard enough. It also teaches them that stars are a very important part of our world, without them it would be very dark and hard to see.

In-Class Uses: Teachers could have children draw pictures or share in groups what some of their dreams are. They could also have children draw pictures of stars and write down or share why they felt they were important.

1. This book has not received any awards.
2. This book is appropriate for grades kindergarten-2nd grade.
3. "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is the extended version of the classic song we all learned as a child. The star comes alive after a little girl wishes upon it and brings her on a magical journey through the night. This twist on the song adds depth and the author's personal touch on the song.
4. Iza Trapani has astonished me with another amazing book. She took a song we all knew as a child and brought it to the next level by adding new adventures between a little girl and a star. Within the story, the star shows the little girl many things that are common within our daily lives. Lastly, she tops off the book with intriguing watercolor pictures that capture attention with the turn of every page.
5. Three in-class uses for this book:
-Bringing music and movement into the classroom
-Talking about the stars and experiences with them
-Sharing their wishes

1. This book has no awards.
2. Grade levels: kindergarten to second grade.
3. A little girl wishes upon a star and gets taken on a journey across the night sky. Eventually she even gets taken into outer space and the star explains how it glows at night over families and animals fast asleep. After the journey the star takes the girl back home into her bed and she thanks the star for taking her on that journey and comforting her while it is in the night sky.
4. I like how this story is a longer version of twinkle twinkle little star. It is a nice twist on the regular nursery rhyme and made me feel a stronger connection to it. I enjoyed how the star explained the importance of its light.
5. Within a classroom setting a teacher could have the children write down one use of the star light accompanied by a drawing. After that the children could create their own stars that could be hung up within their homes.

3. Original 3-line summary: This book is about a little girl who makes a wish on a star in the sky. The star comes down to the girl and makes her wish of seeing what it’s like to be a star come true. The star takes her up into space, and through the world, showing her what it sees.

4. Original 3-line review: I think this book is great for young readers. It turns a song they all most likely know and sing, into a story about a little girl who makes a wish. The reader gets to travel with the girl and the star to discover what it sees as well.

5. 2-3 possible in-class uses:
• have the students put on a play of the girl, the star, and everything they pass.
• Have students draw different planets that they saw in the book.

Summary: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star by Iza Trapani is a song book about a little girl who wishes on a star. The star grants her wish and takes her on a magical journey through the night sky. The star tells the little girl of how the stars help people find their way back home. This one of those classic songs that has been passed down from generation to generation.
Review: I remember being sung this song when I was a little girl. My mom and dad would sing this song with me before I went to bed almost every night. This song is catchy and fun to sing with young children. This song is also great to sing as a class before nap time.
Classroom uses: This song can be used in the classroom to teach how music can be incorporated into learning, it also teaches students to learn about how phrases echo, and gain rhythmic awareness.

This book is great for children in preschool and kindergarten. The book, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" by Iza Trapani. This book includes the lyrics of the song Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and it's paired with beautiful illustrations to match. The students can sing along because the lyrics are repetitive and the teacher can even include hand movements to go with the song. Two activities that would be appropriate for this lesson would be to have the students make a night sky with their name on stars and to have them learn about the solar system and then the second activity would be them learning the hand motions to follow along with the song. I really like this book because as a child, I used to sing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. It brings back good memories reading this book and I'm sure my students will love it too.

Title: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
Author: Iza Trapani
Awards: None

Summary - Iza Trapani's Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star is a beautifully illustrated retelling of the classic by Jane Taylor. The vivid images encapsulate the imagination of the reader in such a way as to make poetry fun and exciting exploration for new readers.

Review/Application: This classic would be a good addition to a late-year second-grade reading class. Third grade is usually when reading begins a focus on Poetry, however, for teachers that want to stretch their student's horizons Iza Trapani's Twinkle Twinkle provides an excellent backdrop for an introduction to the genre. An introductory lesson might focus upon the readers "emotional response" thereby increasing both awareness of poetry and certain introductory skillsets in preparation for the next grade level.

This book is a classical nursery rhyme and it is about a child who wishes on a star. The star comes down to her and it takes her up to space. The star shows her what it sees throughout the world from above.
I always loved this book as a child and I think it is great for children because they are able to sing along with it while it being a storyline. It is also a great way for children to be able to sing along and the illustrations goes very well with what the story is about.
1. Create a lesson about the moon and the stars
2. Have children write about their adventure through space
3. Have children make their own twinkling stars and include a writing activity of what they wish for.

Summary: When a child looks up and sees a twinkling star, they make a wish. The star grants her wish and takes her on a magical adventure showing her the world/outer space.
My Review: This is such a cute story and not many people know that there is more than one verse to this song. This is a beginner song for learning instruments so when student begin to learn to play an instrument, they will happy since they can play a real song.
In Class: This book can be used to find rhyming words and talk about poetry. With young children, this can be used to introduce simple astronomical ideas (planets, stars, the moon, etc). Students can make their own star and create a sky full of stars in the classroom.

Review: This book extends beyond the original "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", adding more adventure. The vibe is very Peter Pan-esque which adds an element of excitement for kids!

Reaction: At first I was confused as to how this short song could be made into a book, but it did not disappoint! It seemed like a great story to read pre-nap time if the class has that!

In-Class Use:

1) I think this book is great to spark imagination within children. You can ask them to draw a place where they wish the stars would take them. This can lead to great discussions among peers and even expand vocabulary as they interact with one another!

Gonna be honest, I totally only knew the first stanza of the song that was done on first page, did not realize that there were so many more lyrics to twinkle twinkle...

The little girl in the story is illustrated a lil nightmare-y, but she does have a cat.

The star has a face. I repeat the star has a face.

… I wanna do monkey bars on Saturn's rings.

I mean, the full poem was nice! It told a lil story that was about a fun sentient star giving a ride through the galaxy to some little girl... but everyone was drawn just a lil- FunkY.

Also can’t believe that there is so much more to the poem than I thought!! I guess I’ve only ever known the first stanza (only 1/10 of twinkle twinkle ~huh~).

4. This book offers such a soothing take on the famous lullaby. The colors are warm and comforting. This version allows children’s imaginations to take flight and never want to leave the stars.
5. In the classroom:
Children can make their own twinkling stars, pasting a paper star onto a popsicle stick and then decorating it with glitter.

I would recommend this book for Kindergarten to 1st grade.

This is the traditional Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, but an extended version. It tells of a girl who wishes upon a star; then, the star comes down to grant her wish and brings her on an adventure.

I love this story, I used to read it as a child. It extends what you know from the song and turns it into a magical adventure.

I would have the children illustrate them wishing upon a star, and (with guidance) write about what their wish might be. I might also have them act out the story, while singing it. Perhaps put on a little show for their parents.

The genre that this book belongs to is poetry and is intended for ages birth through about five years old. The book is about a young girl wishing upon a star and gets to go on a magic ride. The books tells about how the star shinning shines on everything in the world helping to guide them. I rated this book a 4. I picked that because as I remember as a kid from this is only the main part. All if the other stuff to me isn't what children typically hear when it is sung to them. Although this book id informational on what exactly the star light is able to do and how it can be helpful. This book would be very helpful with learning rhyming words.

5. This is a good book for the classroom because people will enjoy reading /singing the book together. This book could be good used when the teacher is introducing stars and the skies into the classroom.

This book expands on the traditional nursery rhyme. One night a young girl wishes upon a twinkling star. The star grants her wish and takes her on a journey.

The words are big and easy to read. The watercolors in the illustration add to the amazement and wonder of the night sky. I recommend this for grades Pre-K-K.

With this book I would create a lesson on the moon and stars. I would also have the students write about taking an adventure through space.

Summary: This is a written and illustrated form of the nursery rhyme of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. However it adds onto it with the girl going into space with the star all while the lines are still consistently rhyming.

Review: I feel that the illustrations are gorgeous and the additions to the nursery rhymes are more then welcome. I also feel that these new additions as well as the engaging illustrations help to strengthen the nursery rhyme.

Possible Uses in Class: This can help spark a discussion of outer space and where would they go with the stars in the sky.

Based on the classic children's song, this book adds verses where a little girl follows a star on a magic ride through the sky at night. She sees how the sun shines during the day, earth is one of many planets in the sky, and the stars shine down on earth during the night. Beautiful illustrations and rhyming text, but maybe a little too in-depth for my preschoolers. I may try using this one and just paper clipping a few pages together to shorten it.

QUESTION: WHY IS THIS SO LONG?
The age group targeted with Twinkle Twinkle is not prone to sitting still through long blocks of rhyming text, and then you also run in to the problem, of "do I sing this entire book, or do I awkwardly speak the rhyme while the tune is playing in my head?"

I'm taking cues from another reviewer who said she'd paper clip some of the pages together to shorten the text a little for my storytime tomorrow.
