No one knows why it started, but the monster invasion all began right here, in Heathen Row. Ever since, men all over the world have been on the menu. And women have been at the frontlines, hunting the predators. But in a world where women are over-armed, over-paid, and under-satiated, Chris Hart isn’t staying safe inside while the monsters come out to feast. He’s living a double life, and doing his damndest to make sure no scientists, corporations, or hired monster hunters find out about the powers he gained the night he came to Heathen Row. Or about the sexy monster woman he’s hiding away to complete his own private mission.
So lock your doors and load your guns. It’s going to be a bloody night.
Just ok. All set up. Over explains with little action.
The first book in this series was almost entirely set up to explain the plot and the world building. The main character is likeable enough and driven to find a brother. First supporting cast entered the story and over explaining started. 40% of the beginning of the book took place in a day about going to a store to buy clothes and eating breakfast. There was very little action in the book except to help explain the world building. At the end they started to build a nice twist with an evil corporation that's overpowered and taking advantage of its situation. The last chapter introduced a second supporting character. Overall the book is fine for the genre but it felt like in the over explaining there was a lot of word filler just to fill the pages of the Amazon word count. I complain about this in a lot of these books especially from Jacob's as an author. All that said the base of the story is good and I like the main character. The story is simple, easy and a little lazy but it finally gets there at the end where... you want to see where it's going to go.
this story had a lot of action in it I love the way the characters interact with each other. the different personalities a real planned out the way the characters Act in situations make sense. the characters are interesting both the monster girls and the regular people. the main character is a nice guy he likes to help people but yet he's also driven to find his lost brother that causes him to act a little obsessive. the only part in the story that bothered me was the way he kept calling the Monster Girls as well as the regular monsters all monsters it seemed a little bit racist to me because to my mind monster girls and monsters are two separate things but towards the end he comes to realize this as well. the romance is also interesting the World building as both good things and bad things as far as wanting to live in that type of world I'm not so sure myself but it is a good read.
Mindless monsters have come through portals and killed more than 3 billion men while leaving women largely untouched. How? You and I have just put more thought into this book than the author did.
Very badly written and largely filler with a lot of repetition, long and pointless chapters on inconsequential things like eating food, and characters endlessly asking stupid questions no one would ever ask, or making idiotic observations.
The combats are boring and badly described and made even worse by the MC's nonsensical comments before, during and after.
Considering how quickly Logan's series go downhill as more bimbos get added to the harems, this is a really low place to start from. By book 3 I doubt he'll even go to the effort of making coherent sentences as he cranks these out.
I don't think I've had so much fun reading a book like this in years. The action was non stop, the plot and characters where fantastic. It's so refreshing to read a fantasy that has the shoe on the other foot, so to speak. I really love it when the hero is good and is so humble. It's so tiring to see the main character go around like a strutting peacock. I really don't want to spoil the book for others, but when it's the men that have to be saved and treated as sex objects I think makes the book appealing to both men and women. I read this in one sitting. The steamy parts of the book just adds to plot and enjoyment of it. Can't wait for the next one.
This adventure story involves an interesting take on the monster girl Harem. (This book does not have a Harem but introduces the first member(s). The monster girl is an interesting and novel character to develop the story. I liked the adventure aspects. There is a meaningful quest and there is some well choreographed development of the relationship. There is a certain feel of the Wild Wild West in the story and it adds to the flavor. I recommend the story and look forward to the next book in the series.
Logan Jacobs has done it again and managed to make a truly unique and highly entertaining Monster Girl Novel... And it's fun, exciting and funny, with a touch of the morbid and gruesome.
An Earth plagued by monster spewing portals whose said monsters favourite game is man... And a Society struggling to cope with it all... And has its own problems to deal with.
This is now one of my top Logan Jacobs novels and I'm really eager to read more!
Wild ride with fighting, monsters, and sexy situations
I'm definitely looking forward to the next book of this series (please write another)! A mechanic in a small American town has to deal with unknown baddies from somewhere else as well as the unbalanced social structure. Will he live? Will he overcome the struggles? I'm doing my best to convey my enthusiasm without spoilers but I would love to see another book following the events in this book.
I typically don’t like Jacobs books. This one wasn’t too bad. You’ll need to overlook glaring plot issues like; how a monster girl from another world can speak perfect English. Or how she claims to have past knowledge of the world and knows what a modern automobile is but has no clue what a “magical” landline phone is. This book does have an interesting story and doesn’t rush straight into the sexy bits.
The start of a new series, and a great one again..this could possibly be one of his best.Starts out slow and a little confusing but is cleared up as you go further. What an outstanding new twist on gorgeous, oozing sexy monster women. You have to read it,, just don't do what I did; read it front to back in one sitting. Or do.....
I liked the book. Just wondering if he will get more skilled or are the monsters this easy to kill? I mean, he can see colors in the monsters & know where to aim to kill but is that all? And will that be enough? I'd really like for him to get more bad ass. His monster women can woop him right now. Will he eventually become their equal? I'm ready for the next book!
This is one the higher end Harem-Lit I've read in my time, it's well written, though it's world-building is a little off and it lacks a compelling antagonist, I do recommend it to all who love their woman capable of great sex and violence.
Do note that the story contains darker themes and elements, and advances slower than some
It’s got a bit of the cringe that you can expect from the dudebro protags that the author likes to use. But the plot/setting is interesting, Backyard dungeon vibes. The FMC’s are diverse and quirky enough to keep things interesting. It's good filler, but doesn't have anything outstanding going for it.
Loved this new book. Liked the Mc, smart and driven and has some interesting skills. Still a nice amount mystery about what is happening and why. Really enjoyed Onix. Really looking forward to the next book with how this one ended.
I am embarrassed to admit that the story gripped me tightly enough I never noticed there were chapters. I kept telling myself I was just going to finish the chapter, and next thing I know, I get an "end of book 1"
So much yet to be revealed the series must continue. A couple of new concepts are introduced. The MC is interesting and unique. Not overloaded with sexual content so this book stands as excellent literature on its own merit.
Mr Jacobs, You have set me on another series that I can't wait for the next book. Please keep us, your fans in the know when the next book comes out!!!
I really enjoyed this book. It started off a little bit slower than I usually enjoy, but by the end I was picking up a dark energy that LJ hasn't delivered since Scholomance ended. I can't wait to see where this story goes...
Another good read from Mr Jacobs. I’ve read quite a bit of his work and am not surprised that he has put out such great content. I look forward to seeing what this series has in store.
This book is super interesting and entertaining to read. I couldn't stop once I started it and I'm very happy to have finished the first book. I can't wait until we get further into the story.
A very interesting world the author is building!!! I he'd to laugh when the first of the MC ladies was introduced, A very unique choice for sure!!! I can't wait to see where this goes from here!!!!
This book is somewhat different from the others he wrote. I really enjoyed the storyline of this one . Really hard to figure out where it was going but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now to get the next one.
Well not unique take on monsters or harems the story is an interesting slant on urban fantasy and character development and world building are very impressive so far I look forward to reading the rest of the series as it comes out
I enjoyed what is clearly a starting place for a new series. There's a few details that will need to get worked out, but overall, I enjoyed it. Also, the spicy bits are pretty good, so long as you aren't a pearl clutcher.
Now this is the strangest book I've had the pleasure of reading in the aproximently 65 years I have been reading. Although the characters and sittings are mostly to be expected, the virity of monsters blow me away. More PLEASE!
