Georgie Mayer has no boyfriend and rarely goes out. In short, she needs a life. Since graduating from college and returning home, her brother s protectiveness has been in overdrive, and she hasn't been able to have any fun, never mind go on a date. So what's a poor particularly attractive girl to do in a situation like this? The only thing she can find him a woman! He'll thank her for it in the end. That is, if his best friend Walt Somers would stop interfering with her plans. The handsome pharmacist has made it no secret that he doesn't approve of what she's up to. Unfortunately, having Walt hanging around does strange things to her mind, and she finds she can't help but take a healthy interest in him. But how can Georgie entertain thoughts of the two of them together when Walt still treats her like his best friend's little sister?

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. Like, really badly. When I found it, I thought it would be one of those cute little gems that are always overlooked. And was a bit disappointed when I found that I was wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t very good, either.
This book is about a girl, name Georgie, who works at a pharmacy and falls for her brothers best friend, Walt, who has just moved back to town.
The characters were fine, but I didn’t really have a lot of feelings for them. Their relationships were pretty good. Well, fundamentally. I liked Georgie and her brother, Brad’s, relationship. I almost always like the idea of a brother’s sister and best friend getting together. Georgie’s interactions with her friends were nice. The whole idea of the story, with how Georgie falls and not wanting to be in a serious relationship while he does, and entering a dating contest, are interesting.
It just wasn’t pulled off as well, or as interesting, as I thought it would be. It wasn’t boring, per se, but it never captured me the way I wanted it to. There wasn't really any surprises, it was very predictable in that I knew exactly where it was going, and there weren't very many small things that made it even better along the way. I mean, it took me, like, a week to get through this book, and it’s not even two hundred pages long (although, part of that might be me, since I seem to be going through a very slow streak).
The writing wasn't super pretty, but I didn't really have any problems with it.
My favorite parts were probably when Georgie and Walt were trying not to think about the other, trying not to think about all the little things they liked about them. Also, I wanted more about Brad. And we got a tiny glimpse of his love life, and then were kind of left hanging, when I was hoping there would be more resolve. (Although, apparently there's going to be a sequel [mentioned in her blog, and this contest], titled with the girl he had a thing for's name, so maybe there will be some resolve there.)
Maybe, hopefully, other people found this book to be better than I did, cause it was probably just not for me.
Georgie is weeks away from becoming a full-fledged pharmacist. Her brother is very overprotective, especially since their parents are dead. And when his best friend, Walt, comes back to town, he joins right in--still treating her like his little sister. But...they've both grown up a lot. She thinks the only way to get her brother off her back is to find his a girlfriend.
I thought this was a very light, easy story--full of crazy things, embarrassing situations, and romance. I was a little worried some of the romance would push past the "clean" boundaries (got a little close a few times), but it stayed on the clean side of things. Kudos for that!! I love a clean, cute romance. :) Georgie is very spunky and speaks her mind, which leads to some of those embarrassing situations, but it was very enjoyable and fun, not over the top.
To cute for words. It was a twist she was the one thinking like a man in relationships and he was the one chasing her for a more permanent relationship. Cute, fun, clean and a fast read. Totally recommended for sheer blissful fun.
You remember how good it feels when you skip the meat and veggies, and go directly to dessert? What? No, huh? Okay, (ahem) me neither, but if I were ever to do such an irresponsibly delightful thing, I'm pretty sure it'd equate with how I feel about this book. It isn't too heavy and filling, but boy oh boy, is it ever sweet and enjoyable.
Predictable? Yeah, I suppose it is. But so what? When you get into a car to drive to your favorite vacation spot, don't you bubble with anticipation, and enjoy the ride to your destination? Same with this story. Readers can just sit back, relax, and enjoy. Shirk's natural style of writing, laced with bits of humor, make for a very smooth ride.
I mean, it's great to sink your teeth into a good steak from time to time, but wouldn't you like to indulge yourself with something a little more decadent? Yep... dessert. That's what this book is. And guess what? It's non-fattening.
This was yet another wonderful story from Shirk and I absolutely enjoyed it. A great feel-good story that made me smile and laugh. Georgie was sweet and funny and I commiserated with her. Walt was a good, strong character with realistic feelings and internal conflict. I loved their story together - very sweet romance with good realism that draws you in. I got some good toe-curling from this one. A few good side characters filled in the story and left it open for a sequel. I would definitely recommend this one, just as I would anything else I have read by this author.
This was a cute story. I liked Georgie and Walt and thought it was fun watching them figure things out. The end got wrapped up a little too quickly, but otherwise it was an enjoyable read.
Probably more of a 3.5, I wish it had been a little longer. I also thought there'd be more about her date with Clay, but it ended up being glossed over.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun, flirty, fast-paced read. The characters are believable and likable, their situations relatable. Excellent dialogue and fun interactions kept the story moving and entertaining. I'm very interested in Brad's story! I hope that's in the works...
Cute story. It reminded me a bit of Marilyn Shank's writing style. This is a clean romance. It's fast-paced with engaging characters. Realistic. I liked it. I would read more books this author.
Adorable book - has all the tropes that you would expect in a romantic comedy, but it was not unnecessary complicated. It was enjoyable and you were invested in Georgie and Walt in the quick read and looking forward to Brad's story in the next!
2.5 Georgie is funny and spunky, and her brother is great. Walt of course is a man's man. Great story line, but I felt like this book pushed the "clean" title a little bit too much. It was defiantly borderline. Lots of innuendos. I think I didn't enjoy as much as I would've had it been cleaner.
Moral Note: Lots of innuendos, they "meet" when she is accusing him of stealing condoms. I would probably rate it PG-13. I don't recall any language. There was some drinking.
I found this book when I was on the hunt for books in which girls fall for their brothers best friend. This was so not like how I thought it would be like. The girl was stubborn and stupider than most stupid blondes represented in books. And this girl wasn't even blond. The guy had no personality whatsoever and was a waste of space but was perfect for her because the author represented him as perfect. Still I finished it because why not.
A quick read about a beautiful girl, Georgie Mayer, and her overprotective brother Brad. She wants her independence and is tired of everyone looking out for her well being. Then her brother's best childhood friend, Walt Somers, comes back to town to help his uncle with the pharmacy that Georgie is working at.
Sparks fly, and Walt falls for Georgie hard and fast. Georgie is afraid of getting herself hurt again so she pushes Walt away. Not the best writing, but an easy read.
Pretty cute story. Great chemistry between Walt and his best friend's little sister, Georgie. Georgie is impulsive, which I liked, and she's pretty innocent, but some of her choices made her look really ditzy, despite being a pharmacist (which I really liked - it's fun to have a professional aspect, it added to the story). A cute and goofy first time meeting since these two "grew up." I like that Walt sees the long term and convinces Georgie.
I could NOT finish this book. The constant bickering between the H & H got to be too much. They argued like 4 year olds. I realize the author did that to show they were actually very attracted to each other, but my gosh, it really was like reading about two children who kept fighting. This is the very first book I've read by this author, and I believe it will more than likely be my last. I cannot in good conscience recommend this book.
I sort of skimmed this book. Romance novels aren't my favorite but I do enjoy them when they have a good plot, good writing, and a healthy relationship (I am really not into books promoting toxic relationships). The story in this book was pretty bland. I wasn't captivated by the writing. I've read other books by Jennifer Shirk and loved them. This was one of her earlier books and I think she improved a lot the more she wrote. I didn't hate the book but I did not enjoy it either.
I loved this book! It's sweet, cute, and fun. I could easily identify with Georgie - I hate having anyone hang over my shoulder telling me what to do or not do. Even if it is with good intentions, as with Georgie's brother. All in all, Georgie is a great short read, and Georgie is a smart and likable young woman.
PG I am so enjoying reading Jennifer Shirk's books! She writes romantic stuff that's funny, that is pretty clean (sex-wise), and that makes you happy. This is a PG book, only because people drink beer, and there's some kissing (not descriptive). It's a fast read (about 200 pages?) and a cute story.
This book was light, fun, clean, and romantic. It was about a girl who finds out her brothers best friend has moved back to town and will be her boss a the pharmacy. IT was cute, and the characters were likable.
This was a fun short novella. The main characters have known each other since childhood. The over protective and his best friend, the younger sister who has grown up. Clean. Just too much ramblings of the thought process. I got it already.
Fun, quick read that was kind of over the top with the cliches. Pure mind candy, but of the pixie stick sort...not really good candy but will do in a pinch when you want a sugar rush.
