Robin Hood and his Merry Men break the fourth wall frequently in this amusing treatment of the mythical figure. This VERY tongue-in-cheek version of the legend pits spoon-wielding Merry Men against the Prince John and his evil sidekick the Sheriff of Nottingham in one silly situation after another. Prince John plans to prevent Robin's do-gooding by capturing Maid Marian and marrying her off to the Sheriff of Nottingham. Will Robin win the day? That depends on if he remembers his bowling shoes.
Delightfully funny play, fun characters and an interesting twist. Someone in the comments said "Monty Python meets Robin hood" and they are 100% correct. 👌🏻😂
A quick read, as most plays are, this play is pretty clearly intended as a "kids' show." The play's own blurb describes it as a Monty-Python-esque re-telling of the Robin hood legend, and that's pretty accurate. It clearly has the potential for a lot of goofy antics, and the running gags (sometimes literally involving running) are pretty funny, too. I'm looking forward to seeing what our director will do with it. It's kinda nice to see a play use clean jokes and still be funny.
It is a humorous play based on the old tale. Two of my sons were in the play at St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. My 19 yo was Friar Tuck and my 15 yo was Allan. There are lots of belly laughs for all ages. I enjoyed the play. I enjoyed watching the process of putting on the play. And, I really enjoyed watching my sons in this humorous piece. While it is enjoyable to read, it is much better to see it acted out.
I directed this show with some elementary and middle school students. It was a delightful and hilarious performance. The students throughly enjoyed this show. It is basically the story of Robin Hood if Monty Python decided to tell it.
Always a hilarious show. I love all the options that Dobson gives directors. This flexibility allows the production to be tailored for a specific cast and audience. Definitely a play I want to direct soon.
My son's school did this play (and yes, I read the whole script). It is FUNNY! Perfect for a small middle school group, but there are characters that can be added to provide more parts. Would you like to see this play? SHER WOOD!
