So those who reviewed this earlier are definitely talking about the first volume. Think of that volume as a prologue for what will really happen.

It starts off as individual stories about girls going to the school to try to have their love come true. I won't go into details, but in volume 2, that is when things get serious and there are a set of characters that are consistent. Please don't take that as a reason to skip volume 1. Volume 1 has its own charms and there are slight clues that are mentioned in the later chapters. There is one character from volume 1 that comes back in the later volumes.

The storyline eventually puts me on the edge of my seat. I'm wondering how can this get any worse and it kept a good mystery going. Just when the mermaids seem boring and consistent like the previous reviewers somewhat mentioned, there's a monkey wrench thrown in and there's your new detail.

I recommend this read. The art is simple and it's not over the top.

Kind of a fun concept, but it never does anything interesting with it. In fact, all three of the stories in this first volume are almost exactly the same. By the way, how does this school explain so many kids dying on the premises or going missing? The mermaid design and the way they act is probably my favorite part. Otherworldly, and more unnerving than flat-out scary ghosts. A fast read, but I don’t know if even the simplicity will get me to jump into another volume.

El concepto es interesante. Básicamente tienes que invocar a unas sirenas en tu escuela y comerte la carne de una de ellas la cual debe tener la misma letra de la persona con la que quieres salir.
En este tomo ocurrieron 3 historias, entodas las protagonistas son mujeres.

No me molestaría seguir leyendo más historias con el mismo formato de 2-3 capítulos cada una.

I have to say this is one of the more unusual horror manga I've read. In terms of visual style and the way the characters are written, its like a high school girls manga where girls are cooperating or being petty in order to fall in love with the right boy. But here it is in the context of slaughtering "mermaids" or becoming one if you fail to kill and eat their flesh. It isn't nearly as darkly lit or dramatically paneled as you would expect for a horror comic. If anything its paneled more like an action comic. The mermaids are really just Japanese girls in swimsuits who can pass through solid substances as though they are water. Normally they just run away and smile but if you try to kill them in order to fall in love with someone who already loves you, then they become jealous and turn into fishy Lovecraftian "deep ones" esque monsters and attack you.

I came across this series a while back on the net and only recently finished reading it. We've all heard of different ways to making someone we like fall in love with us while growing up: love potions, spells, curses, cooking (my dad was pretty admit about that one), but what is you found a book that told you if you ate the flesh of a mermaid and though of your special someone's name, they would fall in love with you? That's what School Mermaids is about. But all spells come with a price so before you call the mermaids of your school out, perhaps you should made sure you know all you need to less you become one too.

This.was.effing.amazing! Plottwists everywhere! Turns, twists, a bit of gore, mermaids, everything! If you are looking for a horror/psychological manga with a bit of gore, then try this out. The girls might infuriate you (for the fact they go and kill mermaids and eat the flesh to get their guys), but you will also feel sorry for them. Cheer for them. Hope they will live.
