Secretly wanting her—no problem. Her not-so-secretly wanting him—big trouble. The Bradfords, Book 3 There’s only one problem with the woman Jason “Mac” Gordon his best friend’s little sister is off limits. Way off limits, and too young and innocent for the likes of him. From past experience, he’s learned to hide his not-so-nice preferences from the nice girls he seems to attract. That definitely includes the woman he’s always thought of as a sister. At least until recently. Sara Bradford always gets what she wants—which is partly Mac’s fault. After all, he helped spoil her. So she has no intention of taking his no for an answer on anything—least of all his refusal to sleep with her. He thinks she’s too innocent? Fine. She’ll simply get un-innocent and show Mac that she wants him—the good, the bad and the nipple clamps. When Mac’s plan to drive her away works too well, he’s forced to follow her to a tropical paradise, determined to make sure she doesn’t find her wild side with anyone but him. Once she gets a real taste of what he likes, he’s sure everything will go back to normal. That’s until he discovers a slight kink, er, flaw in his logic… Contains hot sex at the beach, kinky online shopping—and yes, cotton-candy-flavored body powder does exist. ***THIS TITLE WAS PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED. Erin Nicholas is the New York Times bestselling author of over sixty sexy contemporary romances. Her stories have been described as toe-curling, enchanting, steamy and fun.
She lives in the Midwest with her husband who only wants to read the sex scenes in her books, her kids who will never read the sex scenes in her books, and family and friends who say they’re shocked by the sex scenes in her books (yeah, right!).
My Thoughts: With Just My Type we have arrived at Book #3, the final instalment of the Bradfords series and the one I have discovered this series through. I've read Just My Type not knowing it was the final instalment of the series, but since the novels are stand alone stories, I was not lost without having read the previous two books (but I would recommend reading the series in order just for the additional details one can appreciate if the characters from previous novels make an appearance).
Just My Type is Sara's story. Sara is the baby of the family: not only her older sister and brother have coddled her and made her life easy and protected, but their friends, Sam's macho guy friends made Sara's every wish and whim come true, she is the princess of "the litter", everyone's baby. So it's understandable that after some time at around 23 she has had enough of it and wants to be taken seriously and treated as an adult. And most of all she wants Mac, one of her brother's best friends (who is also 13 years her senior) to see her as a woman. Little does she know that Mac has been fighting his attraction to little Sara for some time now, because not only is she like a little sister to him, but he knows Sam would skin him alive and then kill him if he touched his little sister. And if those two weren't discouraging enough, he is 13 years her senior and he likes sex kinky and sometimes rough. Which simply does not go together with little Princess Sara. Well he couldn't be more wrong...
If Erin Nicholas didn't give such deep and layered characterisation of Sara, she would have been a very irritating blond bimbo, Paris Hilton-like heroine and it would have been so easy to hate her, but instead we see that behind the maze of the blond pink princess glaze there is so much more: Sara is a young woman who has never been able to spread her wings and try herself out at things, she never had to make efforts, to struggle through hardships, her family and friends out of love for her made everything for and instead of her, and seeing her side of the story the reader can understand how oppressing and frustrating this can be.
Mac is simply a delicious hero: he has been Sara's protector and whipped boy since she was 13, he loves her just as much as if she were family, and it's this deep love and affection for her that makes his actions and reluctance to start anything romantic with her so endearing. Mac, the tough womanizer becomes a gentle puppy when it comes to Sara, there is absolutely nothing he wouldn't do for her.
Just My Type is a fantastic romance: it is funny and sweet with its big share of steaminess and heartwarming scenes, and it is so much more than a simple romantic story between the hero/heroine: the reader gets to know Sara as a young woman and sees her transformation and blossoming independence and maturity. This series shows friendships and sibling relationships in depth as well, and what I love is the perfect balance between light and funny and deep and heartwarming.
I'm so sorry to see this series end, I enjoyed every minute I spent with the Bradfords and if there were some cousins and friends, whose stories Erin would tell, I'd be the first to sign up, I just got to love Dooley, Ben, Sam, Sara and Mac and all the others so much, they are a great bunch of characters, and I would love to revisit them again. But until then I'll have my re-reads, and for you it's time to discover the Bradfords series, you'll be in for a treat! (Oh and I couldn't leave without mentioning the cotton candy flavoured body powder, it just sounds yummy, I want one! :-p)
Plot: 9.5/10 Characters: 9/10 Ending: 9/10 Writing: 10/10 Cover: 9/10 - This new cover is simply AMAZING! There is a tenderness between Sara and Mac, and the cover model looks like a perfect Sara and the guy though looks different than how Mac is described he isn't bad at all either ;-)
This is one of the worst and least romantic romances I have ever read. I read Erin Nicholas' Counting On Love series first, which I liked. Since the characters overlap, I tried the Bradfords series. I got this far and stopped. I'm not sure how this book happened because I'm enjoying the Sapphire Falls series, but this one is beyond bad.
This is one of the books in which the hero doesn't want to date his friend's sister because of some "man code". WTF? If I had wanted to date someone my brother trusted and liked enough to be a close friend he would have been happy for me.
The main character, Sara, is 25 years old and after being rejected by her brother's best friend Mac and immediately finding him with a half naked woman in a car, decides to go on vacation in the Caribbean. Apparently the make-out session with the half naked woman was a deliberate ploy to hurt Sara. This awesome desire to hurt her is the theme of the story. I guess this is the right woman to treat this way, because she eats it up.
Sara is described as never alone. That is seriously weird. People drive her everywhere and other than the time she spends in her apartment, there's always someone with her. One of her brother's friends lives on the floor below her in the same building. Sara's hobbies are listed as beauty treatments, changing her nail polish, doing her hair, and shopping. The first three are done daily.
To recap, Sara is 25. Mac decides drop everything to go after her to save her from herself and I guess anyone she doesn't already know. While in the Caribbean he makes dire threats about how wild he likes his women (however we never actually find out what his "unconventional sexual preferences" are). Mac tells Sara she can't possibly keep up and objects to her knowing anything about sex. She wants to learn because the focus of her life is being the kind of woman he wants. She gets a tattoo that she will have to live with for the rest of her life as part of her desperation for his approval. I like tattoos, but really?
Mac decides to legally marry Sara to teach her that she doesn't really want him. That's right, he marries her with the intention of breaking her heart and divorcing her. He explains the plan to his pals and they are fine with it.
Once Mac and Sara are married he decides to isolate her in his home in the middle of nowhere with no source of transportation while he lives in his apartment in the city. When they first arrive Mac tells Sara to lie down and when she falls asleep he sneaks back to his apartment. He continues to refuse to have sex with her (now his wife) because she's his best friend's sister.
Mac goes to the tiny town where his home is and attends several events in a day with his pals (and her brother) without telling Sara that he's there or making any effort to see her. She finds out because she sees him at the third event. The other women in the town have seen him earlier that day and humiliate her. When she talks to Mac at the ballgame he tells her he hoped she wouldn't be there. They go home where she begs him for sex and he finally agrees.
I generally don't read erotic books, the one's I read are mainly with straight up sex, no kinkiness and toys etc but in this book the hero has some different tastes which the heroine is aware of since she has had him in his life since she was 13 and now at 25 she knows she loves him and will do anything for him, the hero Mac isn't that sure, he is attracted to her, but she is younger than him, his best friend's sister, innocent and he sticks to bad girls since his efforts with good one's didn't end well but Sara refuses to take no for an answer and he follows her to her holiday where she threatens to become what he wants and he can't have that, so he marries her, giving her her, heart's desire in an effort to show her how wrong it is.
So, he dumps her at her house, out of the city where she is out of place but after a few hiccups she fits right in, learns the value of hard-work and wants to contribute to the society. Sara is annoying at first she is spoiled and acknowledges it but she is also willing to change and learn and the people in her life have a hard time letting her, not Mac though. He does his level best not to sleep with her but fails but he still can't bring himself to use toys etc with her and Sara knows he is holding back and doesn't see the complete her, so she leaves and they annul their marriage, Mac is miserable wanting her to find someone but he learns, learns to see the new her and that she is capable of making her own choices and by the end of the book they start dating exclusively.
This book may work for some and I liked seeing Sara's development but despite loving the Sydney Croft books I just couldn't get comfortable with the whole stuff in it and prefer sticking to my comfort zones. I like the author's writing style though.
I can't just give 2 stars without saying why. I was really looking forward to Sara's story. I couldn't wait to read about her and Mac. But, I wanted to slap Sara by about chapter 3 because she was basically having a temper tantrum and being a brat. Then I wanted to slap Mac after the third round of "I can't do anything kinky with her because I love her" bout of missionary position sex. By the end of the book, I had hoped they'd get their shit together and have the kind of sex that had been hinted at throughout the book, but it didn't happen. I have read the first two books a few times now. I really liked them. But I won't be picking this book up again.
I was really excited at the beginning. Somewhere around the middle is where the eye rolling set in. I was hoping it was just a lull or build up to a good ending but no. Not at all. It just stayed flat. No waves.. No redemption. I wanted to slap them both. The ending scene with Chad and Mac's tantrum? Uh, super lame lol So disappointed in this installment!!
We had a pretty big hint in book 2 (Just Like That) that we’d be getting the story of Sara Bradford and Mac Gordon soon. So, it wasn’t a huge surprise when Just My Type opens up with Sara planning on seducing Mac. What is surprising is the somewhat over the top and mean move Sam pulls to make sure Sara understands that he’s not good for her.
Mac has known Sara since she was a very young girl. Sara decided years ago she loved Mac and about 5 years ago Mac started noticing Sara as a woman and not his best friend’s little sister. Thing is Sara is pretty innocent and Mac, well Mac has enjoyed multiple partners and some pretty kinky sex over the years. So naturally Mac decides that he’s not what Sara needs which makes her even more determined to be what he wants and needs.
Sara has pretty much been treated like a princess by her siblings and her brother’s friends all of her life. In fact, Mac enjoys calling her princess. She’s never had a chance to spread her wings and she’s never had to do anything for herself she didn’t want to do. At first I really didn’t like Sara, she comes across as spoiled and self centered but during this story she has a metamorphosis of sorts and grows into a very likeable and resilient person.
Mac is a genuinely nice person but he’s blind where Sara is concerned. He makes some critical errors in dealing with her and even though he was trying to make a point, he was pretty mean about it. He really means well but there was a point where I wanted to bop him on the head.
The best part of this story was watching Sara come to terms with who she is. Despite the fact that she is 26 years old, this was almost a coming of age story for her. I very much enjoyed watching her change and grow and become the woman that no one thought she could be. Mac also did some growing and it was painful to watch at times because he really struggled with his expectations and emotions.
Overall I enjoyed Just My Type, it isn’t my favorite in the series but I wouldn’t have missed reading it for the world. I felt good about where Sara and Mac were headed at the end and I look forward to the next book in hopes we’ll see how they are doing. Erin Nicholas continues to produce interesting stories, fun characters, and humorous dialog making The Bradford series one you don’t want to miss.
This series must be read in order. The first book is Just Right (The Bradfords Book 1). The second book is Just Like That (The Bradfords Book 2). This is the third book.
Sara is the protected and pampered princess of the Bradford family. She doesn't really know how to do much for herself but she has had enough! She does not need to be coddled and protected from herself or the world! She is a big girl and now all she.has to figure out is what she wants and how to get it! The real problem it seems is.that she is in love with an unattainable man who her family considers too old and too wild for her. How will she get Mac to notice she's all grown up now? If the age difference doesn't bug her why should it matter? Will her family ever let her make her own decisions?! Sara is not sure she can take any more of it!
Mac feels guilty that the little girl he watched grow up is now his only true obsession. He knows that he should stay away from her... After all good girls are sooooo not for him. His grandmother warned him of this constantly. He is too wild. Too easily because Mac is in love with Sara... Maybe one of these days he will admit that... Or maybe not. Will Mac be able to behave? Or will he finally give in to himself and Sara?
This was an unconventional love story with many twists and turns along the way. Too many people overlook what is right in front of them as they only see what they expect to instead of what is actually there. This is an awesome series and I can't wait to read the next book Just the Way I Like It (The Bradfords)! Each one sucks you in with it's fun and flirty vibe and they feel so real you never want them to end!
***This series is suitable for adult romance lovers looking for humor and plot driven sex scenes :)
Love Erin Nicholas's books and this one is no different. Her characters always feel real and her voice is compulsively readable. I'm looking forward to going back and reading the other Bradford books.
I really like this series. None of the characters are idiots - and in this case, Sarah, the little sister, really comes into her own. There's a bit of a May-December thing going on here - she's 25, he's 37. That plays into the story and the attitudes that go on. But the real beauty of the thing is that they deal with real-life issues and figure out who they are without it solving every problem.
Karen White is her usual fantastic self on the audio.
Wow, I loved this book. The hero of the story 'Mac' and the heroine 'Sarah aka princess' have known each other for 12 years, Sarah as practically Mac's little sister. Mac is best friends with Sarahs older brother and has always looked out for her, help her with everything and has never been able to say 'no' to her. Even though Mac has been secretly in love with Sarah for a while now, things don't start progressing until Sarah puts her foot down and does every possible thing to make Mac see they belong together. I was actually suprised by the book, I thought it was going to be all about their relationship and Sarah trying to make Mac see they were meant to be and Mac pushing her away but really it was so much more. Sarah has been waited on all her life (hence the name 'princess'), she gets her hair done, pedicure/manicure, hair done, flashy dresses, makeup on, got that bling-bling going on, even her sister made up a job for her at the family business to keep her close by. And at the beginning I didn't like how she was pampered and always getting her way and was dreading on reading the rest of the book. But she finally starts taking charge of her life and doing stuff for herself and even wearing (gasp),,,,, sweatpants. Her personality does a 180 and really enjoyed reading some of the ways she shows it. Now on to Mac. He started out having trouble keeping his toughts, and hands, away from his best friends little sister but as Sarah and Mac start a relationship he comes to a new problem. Mac is a big time player, he's been with alot of women and played with lots of 'toys.' So yes, he has a reputation and Sarah knows about alot of it and she's very curious and wants to be adventurous in bed. The only problem is, Mac doesn't see his sweet little Sarah that way and is having a hard time thinking about using a toy on her or even leaving the comforts of the bed. It really was a great book. My only problem was not reading the first two books in the series first!
Just My Type is another amazing read in the Bradfords series! I love each story in this series. Every time I’m reading one I think this one is my favorite then I read the next one and think nope this one is my favorite. They are each that great.
Sara is the youngest Bradford. She’s always been taken care of by her sister, Jessica, and brother, Sam. Things in her life have been arranged for her from childhood. She never does anything alone. Now, life is changing with both her siblings married and a baby on the way for Jessica. Sara decides it’s time to go after what she wants and she wants Mac no matter how resistant he is to the idea.
Mac is older than Sara and always thought of her like a sister until one day it all changed. Then one kiss from Sara and he can’t deny his feelings, but he can make sure he doesn’t act on them. Or can he?
Sara and Mac’s desire for each other heat up the pages and add to the conflict. Mac wants everything to stay the same and Sara simply wants Mac.
Sara gradually changes and becomes less of the princess that everyone believes her to be. She’s able to find out who she really is. There is one scene with a snake that gives me the heebie jeebies. Of course, I hate snakes. I must say I admired Sara more after that scene. She is far braver than me.
Mac is a smokin’ hot guy who doesn’t believe good girls are for him. Unfortunately for Sara, he thinks she’s a good girl. So she tries to become a woman he wants. Instead she finds the person she really is, which is exactly Mac’s type even though he didn’t know it.
Of course, there’s many bumps in the road to their happily ever after. Each bump had me turning the pages to find out how it would all work out.
I recommend this book to any reader wanting a sexy contemporary romance with fun and humor mixed in.
Sara was determined that Mac was the man for her. It didn't matter what he said or wanted, she was pursuing him. Mac has intensely attracted to Sara but wasn't sure he was right for her. She was so gentle & sweet & deserved someone that treated her like a princess. He liked his sex rough & tough & varied. He didn't think he'd ever settle down with one girl. Who is going to win?
Sara & Mac both ended up doing a lot of growing up during this story. Sara realized that she couldn't always have everything she wanted. She also needed to stand up for herself & stop everyone from doing everything for her. Mac needed to stop taking Sara at face value & start listening to what she wanted. He needed to allow her to grow up. I enjoyed the dynamics & the interactions among all of the characters. It added another dimension to the story.
This is the third book in the Bradfords series and each book is as good as the prior books. I enjoyed it as much as the previous books in the series. I love how Erin has the main characters connect in all ways, as well as continuing the lives of the secondary ones throughout the story.
Sara is the baby sister of Sam, and Jessica. They spoiled her along with their close group of friends so much that she was given the name Princess and it has stuck with her even as an adult. She has been in love with Mac for many years, and she always gets what she wants. The problem is she knows he sees her as being too young and Sam’s little sister. She’s decided to prove to him she’s a woman who can give him everything he needs. The first step is to go on an island vacation alone.
Mac has watched Sara grow up and has secretly had feelings for her that he should not be having for the little sister of one of his best friends. He feels that she is too young and innocent for him, but also realizes that Sara has set her sights on him and decides he needs to find a way to make her stop wanting him. Mac finds himself following her to the island to protect her from other men while proving to her what he’s really like with women to cause her to stop wanting him and bring her home. There’s just one problem, he does not expect her to like it, and he’s not ready for her responses to his attempts at pushing her away.
4 ½ stars. This booked sizzled and I loved it. The best in the series.
Mac is an overbearing, pushy, protective, but oh so yummy H. Sara, who he sees as a little sister, a pampered princess of sorts, practically brings him to his knees when she declares her love for him. His plan to discourage her backfires and then the fireworks really begin. The reaction to his plan, from this tight-knit group of family and friends, is very funny. The best is when the four buddies, paramedics that work together, push each other’s buttons that make for some hysterical comments. No great mystery here, just a sweet love story about two people finding out who they really are, and what they really want.
The reason I did not give this the full 5 stars is because I really felt that it needed an epilogue. The ending was satisfying, but as reader I felt that it just needed a little more. I really hope that Ms. Nicholas will continue with the series, as I would love to see Dooley and Kevin find someone too. Kevin’s story would be especially interesting considering his beliefs on sex.
I’m looking forward to reading more of Erin Nicholas’ books.
Have to start like this: I freaking love Mac! He is my most favorite Erin Nicholas male character. Is he perfect? No, not by a long shot. He starts out actually like a jerk who is not quite sure how to handle Sara. He makes me angry in the very first chapter. Not many leading males in books have done that. But what I love about Mac is his transformation throughout the book and the way his character becomes at the end. Total swoon worthy and melted my heart, with a few tears in between. He finally got it!
Then there was Sara. She was a fun sweet caterpillar who bloomed into a butterfly and spread her wings. I totally loved the way age pursued Mac and went after what she wanted.
Just My Type of course would not be complete without all the secondary characters in the book whom I adore. This series just feels like people I would know, friends or neighbors. I love the camaraderie and laugh at the digs they give each other. Great book in this series.
I loved reading Sara's story. She is the youngest Bradford, but trying to prove that she is no longer a child. Mac is her brother's best friend and fellow paramedic, who's seen her as a little sister. She's a woman on a mission, and she is determined to change his mind. I thought this was the best of the 3. It took them longer, in the end, than her siblings did, to figure out that they were meant to be, but they did and it was great. And I laughed out loud at the ending. It was a really cute, hot, sexy, story. I really hope we get a story for Kevin and Dooley, and thereby getting updates on the Bradfords in the process, but regardless, I will be reading more of this author. I loved the whole series!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
All I could think after reading this book for the first time is that I want my very own Mac.
Sara does a lot of growing up in this novel which forces those around her to do the same. I loved seeing her character develop and there were some fun moments with cotton candy scented products that had me laughing long after the story ended.
Erin Nicholas is a genius and someone needs to negoiate the rights to make this series of books a TV series. They're that good!
Having read the first two novels in the Bradford Series I was extremely excited about #3. Not much is really said about Sara in the first two and I couldn't wait to unravel her "issues." This books was FANTASTIC! While I did love Jessica and Sam's stories, something about Mac just made my mouth water and my mind run. His dominance wasn't malicious but built on the relationship they have had for so many years. I wish I had someone to call me Princess now!
I've loved all the books in this series - but hands down this was my favorite so far! Mac is a playboy into kinky stuff and Sara is his best friend's baby sister - a sweet, innocent girl they all call "Princess." She had me ROLLING when she decided she was going to show him the kind of stuff she would do to be his type of woman. Soooo funny! There are touching moments that made me tear up. I loved seeing how strong Sara became. I can't wait to see more Mac & Sara in future books!
this book was the best from bradford series so far..ooommmggg mac was real alpha male he he he...sara was so adorable no wonder everybody treated her like real princess..and the way she wanted to become a real housewife for mac and tried to survived and loved mac's town was amazing..all the character at bradford were amazing
This was my favorite Bradford series book so far. I loved Mac & Sara...the dialogue between them was great & let's not forget the great sex scenes. Loved the interaction between "the group" & can't wait for the next book.
Loved,Loved,Loved this one! Best so far in this series....hoping Ms. Nicholas will write more using a couple more characters from book. It had a great storyline, development, humor and fabulous sizzle.
Another great chapter in the very exciting Bradford series. Mac and Sarah have known each other for a long time and have very definite ideas about each other. Then they discover who they are really and the sparks start to fly.
I won this book through a blog contest put on by the great Ms. Nicholas and LOVED IT! Let me just say, the contest worked, I'll be buying the other two Bradford books!
Sweet, sexy, fun, and naughty! Love this book and love that Sara breaks out of the timid "little sister" role and has such HOT fun with the forbidden man!!
