Author Shaun Roundy earned an MA in English and has published five books and taught university writing for over a decade.

Shaun has lived on four continents and one tropical island. He has climbed 18k' mountains, sailed through two oceans, rides motorcycles and enjoys many other sports. He has volunteered on his county's Search and Rescue team for over a decade, chairs the Mountain Rescue Association Intermountain Region, and his sense of adventure spills into his engaging and insightful writing style.

While his fiction and nonfiction alike often relate struggle and even heartache, they always convey a hopeful optimism that seeks the good in life and sees the best in people, and the determination to make the most of any circumstances that arise.

Shaun can't help adding deep and useful insights to his writing, yet this wisdom integrates smoothly into the writing without distracting from the ongoing story. One book explains the meaning of life. Others discusses healing and second chances. Several show how to find beauty all around, all are well crafted and enjoyable stories.

Lately, I have been missing reading paranormal romance. It's a genre that I really liked when I was younger, but as I got older, I grew out of it. Lately, I've been hearing about all of these great, new paranormal books that sound amazing. I've been wanting to get back into the genre, so I decided to start with a book that has been on my TBR for a while, This: A Vampire Cure for Forever. I really enjoyed the book.

I love This so much that I read it all in one night. I couldn't put it down. I only ended up getting about four hours of sleep because it hooked me in, and wouldn't let me go. I loved everything about the book. The plot was fast paced, and kept me needing to know what was going to happen next. Even before the vampire part came along, there were subtle hints that something crazy was going to happen, which made me want to find out even more. The author did a great job building suspense. My only complaint is that it was hard at times to tell when Kayla was in the real world, or when she was having a flashback. That made things confusing at times.

I also loved all of the characters. I enjoyed watching them interact with each other, and form their friendships and relationships. I even liked Kayla's first set of friends, although they were kind of shallow and superficial. My favorite character was definitely Melissa. I loved her attitude and kick butt personality. She did her own thing, and didn't care what anyone else thought about it. I only wish that I could be like that someday. The only thing I didn't like was what she did towards the middle of the book, although I understand her reasons for doing it.

I loved This. I know the year just started, but I have a feeling it might be one of my favorite books of the year. I desperately wish that the author would write a sequel. The book ended in a way that left some unanswered questions. I especially want to know what happens with the vision Kayla had at the end, and how that plays out. I will definitely be reading more of Shaun Roundy's books, especially if he writes more paranormal books. I recommend this to anyone that wants a quick, great book to read.

This book is definitely a page turner! I stayed up until 2 am last night to finish. :)

I never did read the Twilight series, but I'm sure this is much better (as I have watched the movies). A romantic (but not overly done) suspenseful and amusing story! The main character, Kayla, says from the beginning that it's not what you expect, and she's right. It twisted in many ways that I didn't see coming! And leaves you wanting for more!

The character development is fantastic, and I found myself completely engorged in the story. It was easy to follow, yet with many wonderful insights and depth, making it something for teens and adults alike. It's not overly long, and definitely worth picking up!

With close to 150 pages and 70 chapters this book is bound to be fast-paced and intense. And it sure is! There's never a dull moment and new twists and turns awaits with very new chapter.

I loved Kayla, the main character! She was such a realistic portrait of a 17-year-old. She was insecure and hopelessly in love with the most popular guy in school. She spent her days (and nights) daydreaming about him. But at first she did next to nothing to actually get to know him. Like she said herself "I suddenly grew aware of what a timid little life I had lived for as long as I could remember. I always dreamed big and did...nothing. I felt regret and a tinge of shame." and
"I understood that if i didn't do something about my daydreams, they would never come true. It scared me to think about taking the initiative when it came to Ethan, but the thought of doing nothing and letting another opportunity slip by left a sour spot in the pit of my stomach."

This book is full with small insights and realizations like these two, which showed character growth and gave depth to the novel.

It was easy to imagine yourself in Kayla's position, she could have been me, or any other teenage girl. And Kayla was far from the only character I liked, all characters no matter how small, was well developed and had characteristic personalities. One of my favorite characters was Melissa - the queen of great comebacks and social competence! The detention scene with Kayla, Melissa and Mitch was my favorite scene in the book -the dialogs were so fun! Sadly the dialog lost some of its quirkiness and quickness later in the book - but I guess you don't always have time to joke around in a matter of life and death!

As for the vampire part of the book, Roundy offered some new interesting aspects to vampirism, and finally gave an explanation to why the world isn't overpopulated with vampires!

The story is nicely stringed together in the end, and everything gets an explanation. But in the same time the door is left open for a sequel. A sequel I would gladly read! :)

So to sum up all my thoughts; This. is a quick and fun read filled with love, friendship, action, mystery, suspense and wisdom. Read it!

First, I am required to post that I won this book through a Goodreads promotion at the end of 2010.

With that out of the way, it is important to preface this review with the fact that I am a 22-year-old male whose only previous vampire experience includes a semi-biographical tale of a certain ex-President. So to say I am not the intended audience and this book is not my usual cup-of-tea is a serious understatement.

The book seems to be a typical teenage vampire novel, which in it of itself may be somewhat of a spoiler. It has it's own share of twists and unique pieces of plot, and is written at a level that I feel comfortable lending it to my middle school students. Even considering it for what it is (and trying to leave out my bias) I was not that impressed with the book. In the beginning it was very slow, and the incredibly simple sentence structure nearly killed the teacher in me. Towards the end of the book the pace quickened and I did become interested in what was going on, but everything ended far too quickly and far too easily. The book is short because ancillary characters get very little development and the author's descriptions are extremely brief. Many of the standard-bearers in children's novels for this age group ( The Twilights and Harry Potters) are so well written with such fine character and scene development that you must do the same AND have a very unique twist to garner any attention. In this first book, the author does not do that. I will say that the book is left open for a sequel, and hopefully the author can develop the ideas established here further and put forth a better effort.

11/13 "This.: A Vampire Cure for Forever" caught me wonderfully by surprise and held me captive until I finished it. A vampire story with thought and insight! I was a little confused at first until I figured out that the main character daydreams a lot. I think it would have been helpful if her imaginings were in a different font, but maybe the author wants the reader to figure it out on their own. I highlighted a lot in this ebook; so many insightful quotes. A clean, intelligent, fun read with some vampire violence. I don't know if there will be a sequel; it was written in 2010 so it doesn't look like it. It reads as a stand-alone that could be developed into more. This book is often free on Amazon. young adult +

1/17 Even a second time I thought this book was great. The story itself is not totally unique; it's all the insights and wisdom woven throughout that make it so good. The ending could have been more developed, as there is definitely room for a sequel, but I highly recommend it for those who like clean YA paranormal. 2.99 for Kindle.

Do you ever look back and recognize a certain point in time, a certain flash of remembrance and realize it was a turning point in your life? Then do you start to wonder how that certain point is going to affect your future, your forever? What would you do with forever if you actually had it? Would you want to keep forever or give it back?
In Shaun Roundy’s “This”, you get to experience the thrill of youth and the prospect of immortality and “forever”. “This” is a fairly short book, but Roundy’s depth of character development and fast paced action makes it a book you can’t put down. I’ll admit I was a little leery when I started “This” because I knew it was a YA book. While there is nothing steamy in the story, it did not disappoint like many YA books do. This is a fabulous book that will open your eyes to the things you might be overlooking in your own existence and make you realize your “forever” starts with what you enjoy today.

6-7-11 I'm finding this book a little difficult to read. It started out well, and has it's really, really good moments, BUT there is a lot of telling and not much showing. The whole book feels a little "off" and I can't figure out exactly why. THIS far into a book I can usually hear the voice of the MC clearly and distinctly, but not THIS one. I really hope it gets better. I'm going to stick it out to the end. I'll update when I finish. (Hint, the book is not long and I've been trying to read it for over a week. It's not that it's even that bad, it's just begining to feel like a chore.)

6-13-11 I am taking a break. I really want to like this book. It has some potential, but I'm going to set it aside for a while and come back. Maybe it's just burnout, lol.

i found this book to be very underwhelming. i didn't feel like it was that well written and the characters weren't very intriguing. nor was the story the kind of thing i get into. also, the ebook had a few random stock photos in a few chapters that i guess were supposed to show me what the characters were seeing, but they looked bizarre and out of place and made me feel like i was reading someone's website.

I want to start by saying that I absolutely LOVE the cover! It's gorgeous! Now, this was a fast and fun read that I really enjoyed. It completely took me back to high-school days of secret crushes and discovering new friendships. Easy to read, fun characters and a different twist on vampires. If there is a follow-up book I will be sure to read it!

Finished. 2.5 stars. The first part of the book bugged me. I am wanting to write my own novels someday...so I've been studying up on things to avoid; I saw some things here. The second half of the novel was better and had potential to be good--I kept turning pages. I liked some ideas in this book and can recommend it to others, mostly as a learning tool in writing.

This was a pretty darn good read. However, the beginning was quite confusing until I realized, 'Oh! Daydreams!" I would suggest putting the daydream sequences in italics or indenting them as a whole...something to separate them. Good book.
