Arabs and Israel: Conflict or Conciliation? by Ahmed Deedat is a short book that discusses the Arab–Israeli conflict from a clear Arab and Islamic point of view. The author questions the creation of Israel and criticizes its treatment of Palestinians, focusing on issues of justice, land, and power. Written in a direct and passionate style, the book is meant to challenge readers and spark debate rather than provide a neutral historical study. It is a quick, thought-provoking read that reflects strong opinions on a long-standing conflict.
My review~
To be honest, I have yet to analyse parts of the book, but all in all, Ahmed Deedat did not shy away from asking the right questions or speaking the truth. It was interesting to know that the author is of South African-Indian descent, from which I wonder what other challenges he might have faced apart from being questioned for his support for palestinians.
Rather than just islamic perspectives, he gives a comparison of what is told in Bible and Torah too, to really analyse the kind of narrative that was being built around this conflict at the time.
Every few pages, he has also added images from palestine portraying their struggle, or of IDF to show the brutality, along with an ayah from the Quran that could be associated with it.
All in all, it was an eye opening read, and it's interesting to know a lot of people still try to bring these same discussions around but the narrative has only slightly shifted - the palestinians are still yet to be free from this torment.
Insha'Allah, May Allah help those innocents and let them be free one day.🍉🍉
