Growing up, I had a vivid imagination with lots of imaginary playmates and stuffed animals to keep me company. I even had crayon box adventures where the colors had a kingdom and tales to tell. And who says pink is a girl color? In my world, he was a prince.

From the time I could form my letters, this translated into fanciful writings from poems on eye shadow (I was six) to a story about an Island world I created with animals and people. Writing was something I always did.

But it never clicked. I drifted in and out of genres, mystery, animal stories, thrillers, toying with it, playing at it. I would finish some projects and store them away. It never occurred to me that this pastime could be my life's passion if I let it. Until my world collided with rediscovery.

As a teenager, I devoured books, especially romances but drifted out of the genre as an adult. On a weekend trip to the beach, I read four romance novels. I had a flash of inspiration. I could write these! Romance was where my heart lay. Within six weeks I had written my first romance novel.

I went back and revamped a thriller that I had written a few years before, making it a romance. And I became serious about my craft, trying to soak in all I could about writing. I began to write on a roleplay loop and the practice has been invaluable. I've cut my teeth there and learned what works in writing and what doesn't. And I've finally accepted who I am. A storyteller at heart, be it tales told to my children, an erotic piece about lovers or about a vampire looking for love.

So come with me and take a journey where, just like in my crayon box, things aren't always what they seem.

I give the Rogue five divas as a rating! I loved this story so much that I went out and bought the first five books in the Settler's Mine series! This is a great mix of Scifi and erotica. It has a little bit of everything and leaves you wanting more. It is a little bit of space and other worlds, greedy step mother, pimps, and the hero who gets the girl and the guy. The story is a good example of never dismissing fates. You should never discount what the fates have in store for you! Reviewed by Wicked

This was my first foray into the Settler's Mine series, of which this is the sixth book. Most of the time, starting with sequels isn't a problem - this time was no exception. While fans of the series will probably appreciate certain parts of the book more than I did, I found that the story stood perfectly well on its own. McTavish is a bad boy rogue on the red-light planet Chombay, where he helps male prostitutes who want to get out of the profession, at least when he's not hiding from the authorities. Arianna is the Princess Leia to his Han Solo. But her brother isn't a Jedi, he's Erek, heir to the throne of Schoon. He's fallen victim to sex traffickers and Ari needs McTavish to rescue him.

The reader is in for a good story with likeable characters and a high plot-to-sex ratio. That's not to say that the sex is lacking. The characters make each other horny beyond measure and do very little to restrain themselves. The make-out scenes in the early chapters are delicious torture. The later sex scenes are just as good. Throw into the mix Decker, the officer charged with taking McTavish into custody, but who is far more interested in just taking McTavish, and things get very interesting indeed. The three manage to keep their pants on long enough to make their way through a reasonably engaging tale of rescue and royal politics.

At first glance the characters are some pretty tired cliches: the tough but honorable rogue, the sheltered but determined princess who can't resist a bad boy, the desk jockey who's not quite qualified for fieldwork, the wicked stepmother. But the story is delivered in a way that the cliches become archetypes that allow us quickly to file the characters into their roles and get on with the story. No complex character development here, but you do get a good idea of the characters' inner landscapes. The author manages one or two twists that, while not subtle, keep the characters on their toes.

I was worried about reading a book in which sexual violence and exploitation play such a big role, but the author deals with it pretty well. While the reader knows that Erek is being abused, it all happens "off camera," and his trauma is handled with a fair amount of sensitivity. Other characters that have suffered abuse in the past are in various stages of healing. The abuse is not the defining aspect of their lives, but their experiences are never minimized or discredited.

This isn't a masterfully written book. The language sometimes gets awkward and monotonous, and I found the author's attempts at a Scottish - oops, I mean Schooner - accent in her dialog really annoying. The characters spend a little too much time in their own heads, especially during the sex scenes, but too much is better than too little. The cloak-and-dagger elements were too glossed over for my liking, and it seemed like the author was giving them a bit of a rush job so she could get back to the sex scenes. For many readers this is probably a point in the book's favor. It's not a thinking book by any stretch of the imagination, but that's not what erotic fiction is really for. It's enjoyable and worth picking up. Reviewed by Sonja Vanadis

Arianna's been busy, what with a missing brother and an evil step-mother. With no one else willing to help her, she's forced to find help from McTavish, a vigilante who is wanted by the law, imagine her surprise when he turns out to be her destined mate. Now Arianna has to convince McTavish to help her rescue her brother from a cesspit planet. McTavish has is own problems trying to stay out of the hands of the Union Alliance while protecting those souls he has rescued from a life of prostitution.

If only the events that bring these two together would have translated into sexual tension on the page. The story had plenty of potential, interesting characters and an admirable hero. Unfortunately the characters didn't have enough time to be developed and the relationships were devoid of spark. There was no internal conflict for the leading characters and even the villain of the story was one dimensional. Reviewed by Bette B Goode

Settler's Mine 6: The Rogue is action packed from beginning to end. This is an extremely sexually charged story with hot, steamy love scenes.

As a reader, you will not have any problem connecting to the characters and just falling for them. Arianna is sweet and loyal. McTavish is strong and capable of taking charge and getting things done. Decker is the straight laced guy just trying to do what he has been born to do. Together they each bring something different to the relationship that helps to balance them all as a unit. It was an enjoyable read getting to watch them accomplish this feat.

The evil queen is very easy to loath. She has a hand in the dark story line that surrounds Arianna’s brother. I thought the psychological aspect of that story line was handled very well.

As this was my first visit into Mechele Armstrong’s world, I felt she did a nice job of not leaving me, as the reader, in the dust. Instead, it just spurs me on to want to read the previous books.

The story overall leaves you hopeful that they will have their happily ever after.
