Rate this book
Tia
I’ve only loved once in my life but never again. It threw me into a depth of hell I’ve barely crawled out of.

But when Cole enters my life, I’m willing to give love another try. He’s six feet and three inches of solid muscle, full of dirty fun, and completely devoted to me, leaving my heart once again exposed.

Then, there’s his brother, Lucas, always in the background lingering for more, diligently waiting. But his own brutal demons leave him struggling to give in to me.
To us.

And when I finally meet the brother they call Rage, my mind is thrown back in time, forcing memories I tried to keep hidden to resurface and putting not just me in danger.

Can they accept me and my baggage when I choose to accept theirs, or will my past catch up with me and tear us apart, forcing me to choose only one?

Hidden In Brutal Devotion is a Why Choose Dark Romance book. It is book 1 in a duet.

Okay where to start on this one
First off this is a new author for me
Before I get into any details, I want to say that anybody who knows me knows how much I despise cliffhanger’s and this one had a doozer

We first start off with Thalia & Jace is the Prologue… she was 16 and madly in love with Jace, but he was slightly older than her, and he was about ready to go off to college and leave her behind in foster care with a toxic foster parents

Both Thalia & Jace has big dreams of being together once again. once Jace settled into college …….. But the last time Thalia had seen Jace was the night she gave her Heart and soul to him………

Tia Jones, age twenty-one, who lives in Basington, New Jersey……. And was trying to get her life together, after all that has happened to her in the past 5 years
She works as a part-time server at a local diner during the day and as a bartender at night at Club Envy.

Lucas, Cole and Rage own a bunch of fight clubs, gyms…….. and each one had survive the foster system In one way or another ……..each one was broken in their own way

The author had spun up amazing story, if you could get pass the Over dominating sex scenes……. Maybe if she would have scaled back just a Teeny tiny bit on the steamy scenes and let us have more of the story develop, I would have given this one a higher score ……… As for the next installment in this book she left me with no choice but to read it due to the cliffhanger ….. wish me luck

Despite her best attempts, Club Envy bartender, Tia Jones, is charmed by the playboy, Cole Maguire.

When she agrees to give in to their undeniable chemistry, it means not just accepting the mixed martial arts gym owner, but his brothers too.

Quickly swept up in their whirlwind romance, Cole’s brother, Lucas, brings an unexpected layer of emotions to the relationship.

While vulnerability doesn’t seem to fit his personality, Cole’s submission to Lucas is H•O•T. He knows it what his brother needs and is man enough to be that for him.

And let’s not forget that cliffy!! The visceral emotions in the last chapter? OMFG!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

That felt like the fastest-burning love story. There was no time to delay, I'm not even sure the characters had a chance to blink. My opinion on insta-love/fast burns is on a case-by-case basis and this was sweet, but I wouldn’t have minded a slower pace. I needed more time 😅🫣

This was a RH, so there are other relationships as well, but none of them move particularly slowly. With the slight exception of Lucas, who had past trauma, so had different boundaries with intimacy.

The author handled triggers well, which included Child SA and Child Abuse. It wasn't in explicit detail, just brief references/mentions. For me, nothing particular triggering was written.

The book incorporated the single mum trope but with a twist 🥨. I wasn't expecting this plotline, as it didn't just play on an overused premise that sometimes occurs with this trope. It was a different family dynamic, which was nice to see.

Now...my only little negative points are probably very specific to my pet peeves in books, but I will share them just in case someone dislikes them as well. (Although someone else might read this list and like it more 😂)

Oh, this includes spoilers from here onwards 😅👍

- They switched out her birth control, so she would have to ‘stay’. Yeah sorry no, not for me. Not into this kind of deception and don't love a breeding kink, based on manipulation

- ‘Daddy’… Enough said. Nope not enough said, it was also used in the third person, which made it worse.

- Super smut-heavy (which was not an issue), but some of the lines were a little cringe or they were repeated.

I did guess the cliffhanger, as I think it was pretty obvious, but I still wanted to see how it would play out.

I started the second book but didn't read enough to leave a review. There were a few separate dub con situations and I am not the biggest fan (not a fan at all). They are a little too ambiguous for me, so I DNF.

Overall Book 1 was an interesting read.

Me: this book is atrocious. These characters have no personality. It's one sex scene after another with basically the same three sentences repeated in between.
Also me: binges the entire thing in under an hour 🤷‍♀️
What can I say...the vibes were vibing? If you read wattpad stories on the reg - check this book out

I have to be true and honest to myself, and give both books in this duet 1⭐️.
This was not only NOT good, but was in fact actually genuinely bad.

First, let me address that the overarching plot of the book falls a bit flat. There’s not *really* much of a plot at all other than a bunch of smut, and our FMC wanting her daughter back.

Next, I’d like to mention that there’s some extreme trauma that some of our characters have been through. I don’t think these topics are handled well. They’re really sort of used as plot devices, and we don’t get to see any genuine working through or overcoming trauma.

Finally, the most glaring issue in this book is the writing itself. Holy shit, it’s so bad. I have to be honest here.
The writing like a middle schooler wrote a book. If even that.

We have grammatical errors. We have some of the worst and most unnatural dialogue I’ve seen in a book. We’re lacking descriptions of basically everything, which means this book goes from one scene to the next without any tact and gives you weird whiplash. Characters seem to be screaming constantly with so many sentences ending in exclamation points.

I would actually equate the writing of this book similar to my review; every sentence is short, and there is no depth to the writing. Again, no real descriptions. Not of the surroundings, not of our characters inner monologues and thoughts. It all just falls flat.

And there’s TWO books like that.

Finally, the shit Cherry on top of the shit sundae is the ending. This duet really seems to end on a cliffhanger, which is absolutely illogical considering it’s a duet, and it’s now over. It makes no sense and is frustrating for any reader, especially if you’re someone who actually enjoyed these books.

God, I wish I could burn these books from my memory.

Hidden in Brutal Devotion is a beautiful story about a young woman and her struggles with her life situation. It starts with Jace and Thalia and their hope and dreams.
Then we have a very confident Cole and his intense attraction and lust for the young bartender. His brother Lucas is a man with a horrible past and very stagnant in his life.
This book was sweet at times and other times emotional, but oh some scenes were so hot and intense.
BJ Alpha gives her readers the most endearing characters who evolve and change and grow that we can appreciate and love them with all their flaws and idiosyncrasies.
Loved this first book and can’t wait for more ❤️

Sadly this book just wasn’t for me. If you’re looking for a 🌶️ book with very little plot then this is for you. For my books I just need there to be an actual plot in the book that intrigues me and this book just didn’t have it. The little plot that was there actually seemed interesting I just wish she would have vastly expanded on it. This isn’t a bad book just not what I read. I’m sure for some people this book is amazing. If you like more spice than plot then I would recommend this book!

Hidden in Brutal Devotion starts hot and heavy. When Tia meets Cole she thinks it’s a one night stand, but soon finds out this alpha male is taking what he wants.

Tia has things she wants and Cole promises to help her get them.

Cole, Lucas and Rage are the men who feature in this book (mainly the first two). The men are close to each other and have their own shards of glass.

This is a morally grey, RH continuous series (book one of four). It’s heavy on the steam and pulls on the heart strings.

RARE25 Morally Grey Readathon. Book two out of Eighteen.

Audiobook read. Stella Hunter is one of my favourite narrators and the other cast appears familiar. Overall a good performance all round. The book is in KU so the audiobook cost £3.49. At the moment only book one and two of the four are available on audible.

✅Why choose
✅ RH
✅ Morally grey
✅ Continuous series 1 of 4
✅ Dark romance
✅ Steamy
✅ Emotional content
✅ Cliffhanger ending

This is my review for the duet.

This is 80% smut, 20% plot. The smutty parts were good, the plot was ok. I have a weird pet peeve in books though, and this duet had that a bunch of times, which annoyed me. I don’t like it when authors use the title of the book in the story. I find it cheesy and weird. This duet did that not once, not twice, but probably at least 10 times. Maybe more. And “brutal devotion” or “love in brutal devotion” is not something that can casually be slipped in, so every time the title of the book came up in the story, it felt forced and it was jarring.

There were also some parts that I felt were thrown in for shock value. Like, just to add to the trigger warning list so that people would be intrigued. For example:
…..
S
P
O
I
L
E
R
…..
There was a lot of knife/blood play and at one point the guys carved their names into the FMC’s back and one of the guys used the blood as lube for anal! Like… WHAT. THE. FUCK?!?! It felt like the author saw how much people liked Haunting Adelaide and other books like that with knife play and she was like “how can I capitalize on this trend and but make it MORE?!” It was bizarre!

"Hidden in Brutal Devotion" by B.J. Alpha is a steamy romance novel that explores the complexities of love, trust, and the consequences of past trauma. The story follows Tia, a woman who has experienced heartbreak and is hesitant to open her heart again. When she meets Cole, a charming and devoted man, she begins to believe in the possibility of love once more. However, the presence of Cole's brother Lucas and the introduction of Rage, a figure from Tia's past, add layers of tension and danger to the narrative.

The author dives into the emotional struggles of the characters, depicting their internal conflicts and the challenges they face in accepting love and overcoming their personal demons. The romance between Tia and Cole is passionate and filled with intensity, capturing the reader's attention and creating moments of heated desire.

However, despite these elements, there are aspects of the book that detracted from my overall enjoyment. The pacing of the story felt uneven, with some sections dragging and others rushing through important plot points. This unevenness hindered the development of the relationships and made it difficult to fully connect with the characters.

Additionally, the characterizations lacked depth and complexity, making it challenging to fully invest in their journeys. Tia, while initially intriguing, became predictable and her choices became repetitive. The dynamics between the characters also lacked nuance, and the conflicts felt contrived at times.

Furthermore, the writing style, although aiming to be sensual and evocative, often fell into clichéd descriptions and repetitive language. This detracted from the overall impact of the romantic and emotional scenes, making them lose their intended impact.

While "Hidden in Brutal Devotion" explores themes of love, trust, and overcoming past trauma, it falls short in delivering a truly compelling and well-rounded story. The uneven pacing, shallow characterizations, and repetitive writing style hindered my ability to fully engage with the narrative.

Overall, I would recommend "Hidden in Brutal Devotion" to readers who enjoy steamy romance novels and are willing to overlook some narrative weaknesses. It offers moments of passion and suspense, but fails to deliver a consistently satisfying reading experience.

This book is ✨ filthy. ✨

4⭐️ because it’s all spice and very little plot. Not for everyone, but I was into it. Dirty talk, voyeurism, knife play, blood play. You name it, it’s probably here.

By the end, the plot twist was so obvious, but THEN IT ENDS ON A CLIFFHANGER. In any other book, I hate a cliffhanger, but I’m so wrapped up in this story and the drama now. I can barely wait for the next book to come out, I absolutely have to know how this ends.

What a panty dropper of a book by BJ Alpha again. BJ does not fail to take her reader on an emotional ride filled whilst also giving you the smut.

It is a fast paced and intense story. The characters fit so well together, like missing puzzle pieces that are going to make a beautiful puzzle when it is finished.

𝐀𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐈'𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐚, 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲'𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐨.

I am obsessed. We get know each character bit by bit and the third foster brother Rage is still a mystery.

And the cliffhanger! I knew that something big was coming because the story builds up towards it, but I did not expect it like that. OH MY GOSH! I am on edge waiting to see how it will play out in book 2.

Advice: Make sure you read this in a room with the temperature set on low.

Holy cliffhanger Batman!

When I tell you I devoured this book, I mean DEVOURED. I read this book in a matter of just a couple hours. I became addicted. I couldn’t put it down, and 🥵🔥💦 it’s hot Hot HOT. The spice level in this book is absolutely deliciously filthy.

This book is dark, twisted, taboo, and somehow lovely all at the same time. A why-choose romance with “brothers”, and Tia (the female MC) and these brothers all have dark traumatic pasts, bonded by those pasts, they find love and support with each other, and explore their dark desires.

There are a LOT of potential triggers in this book…if mention of SA/r@PE, knife play, or blood trigger you, this isn’t a book for you.

Tropes: Reverse Harem, Why Choose, Sharing is Caring, Knife play, Hand Necklaces, Daddy Kink, Praise Kink, Good Girl, Baby Girl, M/M Slow burn, Look at Her and Die, Possessive, Dominant

This cliffhanger is slightly tortuous, but I am absolutely going to be anxiously and impatiently awaiting for the release of book 2!!!!

THIS IS GOOD!!!

Yes there is a lot and I mean a lot of 🌶🌶 but so much of the story and character development actually happens through it.

Now that cliffhanger is just utterly mean!! It was obvious who the third brother was gonna be. But what I’m most intrigued about is what the hell exactly happened between the two of them? As the little tidbits we were given were polar opposite’s!! So that’s gonna be a fascinating read!! Urgh I hate that I now have to wait for book 2!!!!

TikTok Made Me Read It

Book was definitely spicy, but the story line was little to none. I like reading the different perspectives but it wasn't helping the story. Maybe it would've helped if there were flashbacks showing each characters backstory? Idk not really a fan of this book.

This was a little cringy and a little... wattpady (yes I said it. like that title drop randomly made me cringe giggle)

Next, I knew who Rage when he kept being "hidden" and "he's coming back next week". The moment those happened I was like... Well obviously that's because Rage is him.

All in all, there were a few parts that were cute so 3.5 stars

"His soft lips find mine, and once again, I’m transported to a place of love and care. Where his devotion is as brutal as it is loving."

The ending is killing me....I didn't think that was him....ughh I couldn't put this down, I can't wait to read the next one.

This was an utterly amazing first part to a duet. With that cliffhanger, I seriously can't cope, I was shook.

I loved the characters so much that Tia is just the ideal FMC for the love interests in this book. They have all been through immense struggles throughout their lives, and they really connected on that.

Tia first meets Cole at the club that she bartends at and we'll safe to say Cole is hooked to Tia immediately, they share a very passionate night together and Cole just can't get enough of her. Their relationship quickly started, and I loved seeing them grow together.

And the we throw in Cole's "brother" Lucas, he is severely traumatised from his past and I loved that Tia was able to bring him out of his shell and to make him feel more loved than he has ever experienced before. Seeing these three characters navigate their life together was such a joy to see.

And then Rage the final "brother" shows up after being away right at the end of the book and everything starts to spiral from Tia's past and present and I can't wait to see what happens next.

I really love the authors writing style. It's so easy to get hooked to, I literally read the whole book in one sitting, and I swear I could not put it down at all. The characters, despite their flaws, are just so easy to love.
