Four children abandoned in an orphanage. Two missing parents. One man whose hatred had divided a family, whose duplicity ended in murder, inextricably weaving their lives together in a web of lies that only time could untangle.
Drew
He was the last of the four to return to Galveston, the first to admit he was in over his head. Stranded in a high-priced bordello because of a wounded leg, Drew found himself being nursed by a woman of mystery. Sensual lady of the night or innocent angel of mercy, she kept her identity secret. But as he was reunited with his brother and sisters, and the wrongs of the past were righted, one thing became clear: Tricia Lee Shepherd was the other half of his soul, the only person who could make his future shine bright.
Elaine Barbieri wrote over thirty historical novels that have been published worldwide. She was certain young adult readers would enjoy the excitement of historical romance if given a chance, and she welcomed the opportunity to write Miranda and the Warrior for this new audience. Elaine lived in northern New Jersey with her husband and family, and with Harrison, a demanding male who she is sure would be the ultimate hero -- if he weren't a cat.
An extra star just for reuniting the siblings. Finally!
But overall the story took a nose dive from the very begining. I did not like the heroine. Her character was so clingy and desperate it was embarrassing. Clearly H was busy, was struggling with past and present issues and needed time to sort things out, so give the man some space. Have a little dignatity and give him that space. But no, this heroine HAS to be near him. She has to the seedy side of town to his rented room and demand he declare his feelings! Mind you they've known each other for a few days. He deposits her back at home, and lo and behold she's back at his door not long after saying "are you happy to see me Drew". Gawd I cringed at that. She was like leech. Doing everything and anything to be near H. She was more like a camp follower then a lady, thats for sure.
The hero was ok but again, like the other books there was no chemistry and no real character development.
The only interest I had in reading this was that the idea of separated siblings reuniting appealed to me. But the author gave such little time to develop that story line that I felt cheated and mislead.
Finally, when they finally got together it a little emotional but the author didn't give this the attention it deserved and thus, it was anticlimactic. Since it left a lot to be desired, the least she could do was write a decent epilogue but there was nothing. Nada. We didn't even get to see Drew reunite with the sisters properly or meet the yankee brother in law officially. What happened to Simons assets? Does it go the Hawk siblings? Do they then give to someone else? What? I don't want to guess at it. Spell it out.
This is the second time I've read this book and am so glad I did. I enjoy the writings by this author and loved this book all over again. It was difficult times after the Civil War and this story depicts the hardships in Galveston, Texas, when the Yankees came to "make peace" in the city which had many Confederate citizens. Drew Hawk was now back in Galveston suffered from old war wounds; his caregiver was the beautiful Tricia who became his "angel".. The entire series is interesting and I recommend it to those that love Historical Western Romance books.
I have only read the first and last books of this series which is about four orphaned siblings. The first and last books being about the two brothers. Lots of twists and turns in this book and the ending was surprising but in a good way. I found it strange that the series was written by two different authors but it seemed to work ok. Good read overall and will probably read the other two books.
I hate myself for liking this maudlin series. Just as I was deriding the ending with "Are you kidding me? You're not going there... It's illogical and too much! "... I teared up on the last word of the book. (*Argh. *sigh)
It was moving just wished the bad guy had suffered before his end.Loved how the family can back together with additions added ,hope the series continue with some offsprings
