Rate this book
The God Incarnate, forced into a public role he didn’t seek. ~ The mere mortal who wants a quiet life. ~ The very public, very popular reality show that will complicate their lives.

This is the second time Jack’s been coerced into searching for the Goddess Incarnate among the most promising, and beautiful, mages of his generation for the entertainment of the nation. Tired and jaded, Jack fears the new season of Goddess Found will play out like the last, until a new crew member makes him feel more at ease than he has in years. But she has no magic so she can’t be his Goddess. Can she?

All Leta wants is enough money to pay for a pâtisserie course so she can be her own boss. She just needs to keep her head down for six weeks and not get fired for bothering the ambitious contestants or making a fool of herself in front of the dreamy God Incarnate. A simple task for a wallflower, right?

As Leta and Jack draw closer, the attention of the media and the mighty mage families places conflicting expectations upon them. And whoever the Goddess Incarnate turns out to be will have another problem: Not everyone wants the Goddess to Ascend …

3.5 stars rounded up!

I read this as part of my batch of SPFBO books for SPFBOX. This was such a unique concept and a really good pick for people that normally read contemporary romance and want to move into the realm of fantasy. It's giving Charm Offensive vibes, but with magic!

I think the characters needed a little bit more fleshing out, but the magic system was unique and the premise was fun and refreshing!

I think this will appeal to contemporary romance fans looking to dip their toes into fantasy. A little bachelor, this follows a God trying to find his wife on reality TV. The set up was very intriguing. For a romance, I really didn't feel like the characters spent a lot of time together on page though. I wish they had more depth individually and as a couple. Since I'm not a huge cozy/contemporary romance reader, this didn't hit me quite like I wanted, but if you are, I say give it a go! It's a fun cozy vibe.

I was given the opportunity to read the ARC of Goddess Found in exchange for my honest review.

This book was cozy: the characters, the setting, the writing style. There are many cups of tea and mentions of biscuits. Cute, low stakes, reality TV show, low fantasy drama. A light, enjoyable read. Goddess Found gave me sitting inside on a rainy afternoon vibes.

Jack (the MMC) and Leta (the FMC) were both sweetly relatable and suitably anxious given the premise of the book. A reality show to find the ‘goddess incarnate’ of the harvest. Jack, the god incarnate of the hunt has been roped into a contract with an evil conglomerate and tries to wangle his way out of many an awkward situation. It’s awkward, it’s cute, it’s giving The Bachelor meets Ugly Betty.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It took me a minute to get into the third person story telling, but once I was in I breezed through it. I recommend, particularly if you are looking for something lighter following a heavy or dark read.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book from the author directly. As a new to me author I thought I'd really enjoy the premise of the book. I was wrong - I LOVED it!

The characters were engaging and empathetic. By and large it's not a super-spicy romance, but there were a few scenes where Jack shows just how "godlike" he could be! He's great as the god incarnate who just wanted to work in his gardens. He didn't seek fame, it was thrust upon him and now he's supposed to perpetuate the misery in the magical equivalent of the Batchelor!

Leta is just about as non magical as a magical person can be. She just wants to bake and look after her mum. She finds herself in her baking. But she needs an injection of cash to get her to pastry school - acting as the Seer's assistant on a vapid TV show should give her enough.

Neither of them bargained on magical shenanigans, scheming contestants and their families or the fickleness of TV companies!

The thought of reality TV leaves me cold with the exception of GBBO of course. So a baker, who is magic in the kitchen got me hooked. The drama really came from the wannabe goddesses and less from our MC's. I enjoyed reading about the plotting, backstabbing and skulduggery, safe in the knowledge that "real" people weren't being hurt.

Jack and Leta are sweet and relatable, neither wanting fame but getting it anyway. Jack trying to save Leta's dignity and privacy just made me like him more. I found myself totally sucked in and read the book in one eight hour sitting (long car journeys for the win!). I'd jump at the chance to read more in this world.

This is not a full review. I read through the beginning of all 300 SPFBOX contest entries. This was a book I wanted to read more of.

An out of work baker with no magic in a world full of it gets a surprise offer to work on a bachelor-style reality show meant to match the newly Incarnate God with his one true Incarnate Goddess.

The setting and narrative voice here is a treat. Its fun and full of magic. Our female MC is tragically mundane in a world where her own work-a-day mother is responsible for stopping and magically throwing the mass transit in their small town!

Recently out of work and back home at 22, her mundane, true-to-life problems juxtapose humorously with the fantastical world were introduced to.

This opening is wonderfully focused, establishing a good sense of setting alongside our MC’s current wants and aspirations of becoming a pastry chef, and then slapping down an irresistible (though not altogether perfect) solution for her.

The names are to die for here. I laughed - really truly laughed with delight - at God Incarnate Jack, who it looks like we get to meet in the second section of ch1 as a 3rd person close pov.

Though there were some moments were I thought the prose was a little flat, I find the details are all perfectly clear and the story well focused and engaging. The dialogue is also revealing of character and to the point!

This has already been a fun, cozy, romantic read with wonderful promise. It has great pace without seeming to rush, and already seems like it will have A LOT of really fun tropes. I’m excited to see what happens next! I’m in!

I was gifted a free digital copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The best way I’ve described this book to my friends is if Prince Charming was a God who went on a reality show to find his ‘Cinderella’, or Goddess in this instance.

I was drawn in by the concept of this story. A low stakes cosy fantasy with a modern twist. Perfect for an easy and interesting read. A good introductory book for new fantasy readers.

The cover gave me some (not entirely wrong) preconceptions and I didn’t realise how modern this book would be. I found it almost a mash up of a fantasy and a rom com.

Although the overall storyline was predictable I did find multiple twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting.

I was grateful to be a part of the ARC team for this book in return for an honest review.

As I first started reading this, I didn't think I'd be able to get into it and seemed predictable. But I couldn't put it down once I started. I even had a dream about it 😅.

As much as it was predicatable to find out who the Goddess Incarnate was, this book still had some twists and turns I did not see coming at all. It kept me on my toes and kept me wanting more and more. I also loved the fact that the main female character was a curvy girl!

It's definitely worth the read!

I was happy to be on the ARC team.

At first, i did not think i would finish and had some trouble following the story. After a while, i was enjoying myself. This was a fun take on a modern fantasy. Jack “god incarnate” is roped into a reality show to find his “goddess incarnate”. Both main characters were very likable and this was a quick read! Would recommend for someone who needs something breezy. This was a fun concept and the twists through me for a loop.

I adored this book! It gave off like a The Bachelor vibe but with Gods and magic added in. While it had its drama moments, it wasn't super heavy on the drama which I liked and made this story a cosy sort of read, which I honestly wouldn't have picked this for with the kind of storyline it was portraying but it does and was such a an easy read. I love that Jack's first expression of Leta is that she's a curvy sexy librarian and also just how down to earth Leta is with her personality. They both grow in their own ways and end up as a perfect match.

Calanthe Colt does a great job in creating this novel, I enjoyed getting to know the world and thought it worked well as a fantasy romance novel. The characters were what I was hoping for and really enjoyed getting to know them. The way it was written was perfect and I'm so glad I got to read this.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a 3.5 read for me that I rounded up to 4. The concept was great, and the story enjoyable. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters, and felt this was a great new take on modern fantasy; I could definitely see how if it was real life something like this would probably happen.
I would recommend this to someone looking for a cute, fun, breezy read.

I think it was just that I found the lead female pretty stereotypical of the type of character she's supposed to be which isn't bad, just not my cup of tea. I enjoyed the plot though even if I found it predictable, but I know some people love that. If you're one of them 100% recommend this to you.

The premise of this book was unlike anything I have ever read. The best way I can describe it is The Bachelor, but with a God Incarnate searching for his soulmate. There’s magic, there’s tarot and divination and visions of the future, it’s kinda cozy, it’s everything you could want in a book about a dating show. It’s set in a modern type setting, so there’s devices that are similar to cameras and phones but aren’t quite what we know them as in the real world.

A very unique and fun read.

Calanthe Colt's debut fantasy romance had me guessing until the end as to how it was going to finish. Leta and Jack's personalities are very likeable. All in all an original scenario and a good read.
