As a child, thoughts of far-off places and adventure consistently kept Lori up late at night. After graduating high school, she came to the conclusion that there was no better way to seek adventure and nourish her love of history than to become an archaeologist. She went on to receive a degree in anthropology, but digging in the dirt during humid Midwestern summers wasn’t exactly as fun as she thought it would be.

Instead, she went to work in an air conditioned museum where she spent her days surrounded by creepy Victorian animal mounts. Still, she wasn’t satisfied.

Deciding the people in her imagination were slightly more exciting than the dead things in a museum basement, she set out to write her first romance novel. That book was soundly rejected. As was the next. Years went by and she began to wonder if she’d ever see her dream fulfilled. Until one day she came up with an idea for a book that brought together her love of history and adventure: a book now titled Wild Heart. Since Wild Heart's release, Lori has written Historical Romance, Contemporary Paranormal Romance and Young Adult.

Lori currently resides in the Southern U.S., where she juggles her time between a husband, a son, a golden retriever, a cat and the many, many people in her imagination.

I think that this is the best self-published author I've ever read. But Ms. Brighton's book was great. This ebook is only 99 cents, and it's totally worth it-worth more, IMO.

I enjoyed the plot, and the characters.

Ashley has just inherited an old English pub (and its ghosts), and so she bravely leaves her mom and fiance in the States and off she goes...mind you her mom thinks Ashley is crazy because Ashley can see and talk to ghosts. her fiance had no clue, just thought Ashley was a normal girl, but after her mom told him all their dirty secrets, now he wants to get Ashley "help."
Ashley's mom has had her in and out of the looney bin her whole life-poor girl.

So the move to England is her fresh start.

But there's nothing normal about her little village. For one, the barkeep is part leprechaun, and a French werewolf won't stop hitting on her.

Enter Cristian. He is a fallen angel, and a warrior. His job is to send ghosts to the other side, but he has a little problem...he can't see ghosts. At least not clearly-he sees a shimmer, but that's it. Every generation he works with a new Seer (that's Ashley here) and she points him at the ghosts, he swipes his sword through them, done! Right?

Nope.

See Ashley is kind of attached to her ghosts. She thinks Cristian is the bad guy who is "stealing" her ghosts. In fact, Ashley and her new friend Camille kind of sort of accidentally bring one of their ghosts back to life. And not only is Devon sexy and delicious, but he has the same black wing tattoos on his back that Cristian has. And now we have a possible love triangle.

Meanwhile, there is a bit of a problem in the basement...see Ashley's old pub is built atop an ancient church...and it houses something EVIL! I won't spoil who or what is locked beneath her pub, but it's a good twist. I liked the way the evil was dealt with. I liked the characters, the plot twist, I really enjoyed this book.

Only a couple little things bugged me. One was Ashley's refusal to accept Cristian, his "job" and the fact that what they were doing was end of the earth type stuff, not just Cristian being a jerk. He had a job to do. But to her credit, Cristian never told her any helpful information. He really did keep her in the dark. But it bugged me anyway.

The other was that with Devon in the picture, a lot of history between Devon and Cristian came into play...and Cristian and Ashley would come close to getting it on, and then..Cristian would ask her if she loved Devon. Well Ashley would say, "umm...no?" or "Yes, but not like that." It got tedious that Cristian, our hero, was constantly painted as the bad guy for Ashley and that she couldn't see what was in front of her face. He's a frickin' ANGEL! He's the good guy!

Other than that, I really enjoyed this book, and for 99 cents, it is absolutely worth the read...I wish lots of success for Ms. Brighton, because she has a lot of potential to become a fantastic writer.

I had high hopes for this novel, and I remained content until I hit about 30%. Since I'm currently pressed for time, I'm reviewing the cons and pros with a quick bullet list:

Cons:
- Ashley, the protagonist, is a whining idiot. She takes far too long to understand simple concepts, and when she finally does understand something, she's too much of a coward to do anything about the situations she finds herself in. There are many parts to the story where she acted like a teenage girl that didn't get a new iPhone for Christmas.
- The story could have and should have been shorter. I honestly didn't need four infuriating scenes of Ashley being too much of a simple minded bigot during sex scenes. Now, I don't expect people to sleep with someone they're attracted to on the first night, but around the third time of her leaving in the middle of a scene made me want to throw my Kindle against the wall.
- Christian/religious undertones. The normal response to this would be: "Well, of course, he's an angel!" However, I've read many novels with angels that stayed far away from any religious themes. Granted this might be a pro for many, it was definitely a hindrance for me.
- Far too many times where Ashley was left out in the dark. I suppose this is the author's way to make it suspenseful for the reader, but once again, it just made Ashley look and sound like an idiot.

Pros:
- I did enjoy the way the author expressed each accent. The way she wrote the dialog definitely made it easier to imagine - or "hear" - the character's accent.
- Strong beginning.

Lori Brighton is talented and creative writer. This one kept me on edge wanting to know what was going to happen next. I love all the paranormal she has going on in this book. I was very happy that is wasn’t like most ghost hunters I have seen on TV or read about. It was fresh and exciting. Here is what you get action, exorcism, spell casting sword fighting, body passions, twist and turns, surprises and a great cast of characters. I hope to read more about this cast in the future.

OMG, I have to say poor Ashley she never seen what was coming when she walked into her new owned old pub, she truly went for a exciting and deadly ride. If it wasn’t ghost it was the angel warriors messing with her, then add the rest of the towns witches, vampire, werewolf and the big demon that lives in her basement whew, like I said she never seen it coming. Ashley is strong and is ready to fight for what is hers.

Cristian is a angel warrior that helps passes ghost to the other side, but he has to have a seer to do so. He already knows Ashley and her family and wants to buy her out of her pub house, but she refuses. So he takes matters in his own hands and moves in.

My only downside was I really would have love to read more of Cristian
And Ashley working together instead of separated, it was like it took from the romance part for me.

I remember when I was asked to review The Ghost Hunter, I saw the words “fallen angel” and instantly started drooling. The idea of fallen angels is something pretty new to me but the more I’ve read, the more I’m beginning to see what an incredible addition to the paranormal world they are. For me, I can’t read them fast enough.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. I’m a HUGE sucker for the sexual tension that comes from the whole “Oh I want you so bad but I need to keep you at arm’s length but gosh you’re so tempting, if I could only have just a little taste of you” There’s something about the longing, the frustration, the intensity that happens when the two characters finally come together that has me literally panting from the emotions of it all. This book had this in spades and paired with an incredible story that pulled me in deep, the book was almost impossible to put down. I’ve never read anything by Lori Brighton before but if this is any indication of the way she writes, I’ll devour anything of hers I can get my hands on. What an amazing experience from beginning to end.

I loved the relationship that developed between the two lead characters, Ashley and Cristian. They were constantly battling against each other whether it was their burning attraction for each other, the confusion and mistrust Ashley felt towards Cristian and his intentions or the torn emotions of Cristian as he fought to stay focused on his task despite his growing need for Ashley. These two characters were hilarious at times and I really loved the way they would banter with each other, often times stirring up the others emotions. I could feel the pull their attractions had over them through each scene and I found myself wishing they would hurry up and admit their love for each other so they could be complete. There were so many surprises in their relationships, turns the author took and I have to say that the ending raised goose bumps on my arms and had me on the verge of sobbing it was so incredibly romantic.

I loved Ashley and felt a little bad for her at first. She ran away to take over her aunt’s pub hoping in the process she could find out what happened to her father. It didn’t take long before she meets with the ghosts that live with her and it pushes her to her limits because all her life, her “gift” has brought her nothing but heartache. She’s a strong character and I loved that she did show caution when she found herself in certain situations. I always roll my eyes at those STUPID girls in horror movies who walk into the dark house knowing there’s something in there that wants to eat them. I couldn’t help but smile over the constant conflict she had with Cristian and the growing attraction she felt for him. Everything in her SCREAMED for him to claim her but still she would fight against it, telling him that she didn’t even like him. I’m laughing at her saying “Oh honey, what you just did with him? Yep you know, what had you moaning just now. That didn’t look like dislike to me” I loved watching her accept her gifts, her role in the danger in the house but most especially, her final acceptance and submission to how she felt for Cristian. HUGE sigh moments!!

Cristian, Cristian, Cristian. My gosh what a man he was. Even now my eyes are rolling into the back of my head, a dreamy smile on my face as I remember how he was in this book. He was just so cocky and arrogant, so deliciously powerful and I loved the presence he had throughout the book. He was there for a purpose and although he was meant to work alongside with Ashley, nothing could prepare him for the connection he instantly felt. I loved watching the battle in waged in him and how everything was sometimes hung in the balance. Oh that man made me moan at times he was that intense and focused, making him everything I look for in an alpha male character. Besides that, how’s this for an image?

“The wind tousled his black hair, making him look boyishly human, instead of otherworldly gorgeous as he’d looked last night. As he was wearing short sleeves, she couldn’t help but notice the way his biceps bulged. And his jeans, dear Lord, the man’s jeans fit well. With his intense gaze, his muscled build and that sexy accent he reminded her of a Highland warrior.”

Do you need something to wipe up the drool as well? Shall we sigh together? This was the image I carried throughout the book and by the end of the story I was ready to jump in and attack him. *offers a cheeky wink*

There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. Everything was evenly paced and exciting, the characters appealing and the romance addicting. I loved the uncertainty of it all and those moments where I was reeling, thinking “OMG I never saw that coming.” This is a great read for anyone interested in fallen angels and the paranormal and it’s definitely a book that will leave you smiling. Happy reading!!

I believe “The Ghost Hunter” is a self published e-book from Lori. Being a self pub, it isn’t quite as polished as a standard book but believe me when I say it’s well worth the money. From the moment I picked this book (err my Kindle) up I was engrossed. I absolutely loved it from start to finish.

Ashley wants to be normal, to have a normal life. She is tired of being told she is crazy, that she can be helped with pills. Ashley has been able to see and talk to ghosts since she was a little girl. She has learned to ignore and shut them out in an attempt to be who her mother wanted her to be. She also has no intention of going back to the mental hospital her mother put her in again.

When she finds out she has inherited her aunts English mansion/pub she leaves her old life behind and sets out on a new path where no one knows her. The last thing she expected or wanted to find upon her arrival was a run down shack of a mansion with several ghosts residing in it. Not to mention a mysterious sexy stranger offering to buy it out from under her. And an entire village of people who aren’t what they seem. Cristian, an angel warrior wants Ashley gone. Having her close makes him lose his focus. So he sets off to annoy her, scare her and seduce her out of the house…anything to keep her safe.

Trying to live in a house with several extremely annoying ghosts gets to be way to much for Ashley to ignore. When she finally converses with them, and learns their stories, she becomes attached. So when they start disappearing, Ashley wants to figure out why. No one seems to be telling her the truth. Or at least, the entire truth. When she meets her witchy neighbor they come up with a plan to figure out what is going on once and for all.

There were a few times in the book that I was confused as to who the love interest was. Devon, a ghost that ends up being resurrected by accident, or Cristian. Ashley appears to have feelings for both. Right up until the end I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. Ashley also has a really hard time coming to grips with the realization that she is not crazy and there is more to the quaint English village then meets the eye. Though I can understand why because of her background. She also says “fan-freaking-tastic”…A LOT :)

Cristian is an indecisive character but very lovable. There were times I wanted to punch him in the face for his attitude and times that I truly felt the depth of his emotions. For me, that makes for an awesome character. The sex scenes were definitely hot and left me wanting more several times before the actual climax (hehe).

The secondary characters (the townspeople) are vividly portrayed as an array of supernaturals. Everything from fairies to werewolves reside in the small village. I was giggling a lot over the big burly bartender that was half fairy…come on, can you picture that?? Can you? :)

The location of the story is written so well that I could see the cobblestone streets, feel the cool damp air and hear the surrounding woods. Lori’s ability to make me feel, hear and see was amazing. When she describes the basement and the locked door I actually felt a shudder go through me. When you see markings carved into your wall it is never a good thing. Think Amityville…

Ashley’s journey to the realization of who she loves is a long one, but in the end I was happy. She must come to grips with her fathers disappearance, start to understand herself and figure out how strong she actually is.

The saying “there can be only one” comes to mind. But that saying is wrong because wherever there is one, there is another standing with them . Willing to sacrifice it all.

I gave up on this book because it annoyed me on many levels.

The heroine was kept in the dark for too long about important things. When the truth was finally revealed, she freaked out (which was reasonable) but then she went running into town alone--even though she had been told not to do so. It seemed like the hero's only feature was how good-looking he was--he didn't have much of a personality. There were many time that I wanted to slap the characters for messing with magic they didn't understand.

Is it bad that I wanted to see all the main characters slaughtered by the demons they were supposed to be fighting?

"Ghost Hunter" is a book filled with emotion and magic. It's a fun and intense read that left me sad when I read The End. I'm hopeful that there will be another book with these characters. I want to know what happens to Devon and spend more time with Ashley and Cristian.

I don't usually do summaries of books for my reviews but I will in this case. I don't think the synopsis does the book the justice it deserves. The story points listed aren't really the main crux of the story so I want to add a little bit.

Ashley inherits an Inn in England from her Aunt and leaves her life in America behind to check out this "Pub" (as it's referred to in the book). Ashley has had a pretty tragic childhood but has survived to become a strong woman who knows what she wants and sticks to her ideals. This opportunity is the perfect "start over" she needs, after all she's been through, and to find the answers to questions she has.

Enter Cristian, a fallen angel warrior who is sentenced to eternity on Earth until he earns his way back into Heaven. His job is to deal with unwanted spirits. And like the synopsis says above, he needs another person to help him, a human who can see the spirits. So he's immediately drawn to Ashley. But he sees a weak human who has no idea of her powers so he intends to send her packing back to America for her own safety. And all the while, there's a big nasty living in Ashley's basement just waiting to get out.

Ms. Brighton has created an original world built around a small town in England where non-humans have gathered to live out a quiet life blending in. You'll meet ghosts, witches, werewolves, vampires and leprechauns. Throw in a fallen angel and you'd think you'd have a hot mess but it actually works. On the world building alone, I've added the next book in the series, Demon Hunter, to my TBR pile.

I think this is the best self-published book I've read in terms of grammar and spelling. Errors usually smile and wave to me but I didn't see one! The writing quality was outstanding, too.

Now, why did I only give it 3 1/2 stars? Now this is where my review gets ultra personal, as in my own tastes. I have a hard time with lines in books such as, "A lone light bulb struggled for life." Or, "The plants, brown skeletal remains, looked like they'd been attempting to escape across the stone stairs when they'd succumbed to death." Lines like those are a tad too dramatic for me. I understand the need to change up the way we say certain things. You certainly don't want to just say, "The plants were dead." You'd lose a lot of readers that way. But I personally like my pictures painted with fewer pretty words.

The other thing I got hung up on? Throughout this story, every character at some point, maybe multiple times, likes to chew on their bottom lip. I could see it once but it started to get on my nerves when other characters started to do it. I know, I'm weird, just stating the obvious....

But, please, despite my OCD hangups, don't get me wrong, this book is a great start to a series and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book. I'd say who it happens to but that would ruin THIS book so don't read the synopsis of Demon Hunter until you read Ghost Hunter!! You'll be happier that way.

Wow!! What more can I say, that one word pretty much sums up my feelings on this read. I loved it, absolutely loved it. I thought this was a beautiful story and well written. I won this e-copy on a blog and was a little nervous, being my first e-book I've read. I really love having a book in my hands, so I am hoping this will go to print so I can place in on my bookshelf with all my favorite reads. I was pulled into the story right off the first few lines. Christian was intensly hot. I loved the stuggle within himself as he was fighting his attraction to Ashley. From the second she walked into the pub, he was intensly aware of her. There was so much going on in this book. The odd towns people, the rumbling in Ashley's pub, the ghosts, the evil surrounding the town and the odd door in the basement. Ashley has always been different and never feeling like she belongs. When she inherits the pub from her aunt, she jumps at the chance to start over and hopefully find answers about her missing father. What she didn't expect, the ghosts she bonded with and a man she has an intense attraction to. She knows something is off about Christian and is struggling to put the pieces together. She is fighting this attraction and at the same time she wants to wring his neck. These two characters have everything I love in a romance. They want eachother, but at the same time they are both fighting their feelings as they are slinging insults and getting hot and heavy against the wall. They have a hot and cold relationship where I am anxious and needy to have them give into it. It's a sign of a great read for me, when I can't stop reading and am so invested in these characters that they have me on the edge of the seat guessing where they are going to go and what they are going to do next. I was in equal parts frustrated with both Christian and Ashley at different parts of the story. I wanted to knock their heads together so they could see what was right in front of them. Devon was like a third wheel. He was there in the sidelines. I liked him and liked his character, but felt like he kept getting in the way. The town and other characters...Devon, Camile, Rose, the ghosts and even the Demon in the basement really rounded the story out. I was a little sad to see Devon's demise, though I didn't want him with Ashley, I had a lot of love for him and his sexy arse :) Overall, amazing read. Loved it and I loved how I was sucked into the story feeling just as sexually frustrated as these characters

The Ghost Hunter started off well. Crumpled and jet lagged Ashley arrived in England to inherit a decrepit inn from he aunt and find some answers about her father's disappearance. Life gets complicated after that.

I generally liked Ashley. She had had a hard life and was finally trying to accept herself as is. I can appreciate that. She had an irritating habit of chatting even when endangered though. I wanted to scream at her,"Come on shut up and hide already, or run, or fight, or something, just shut up!" Not that what she often said wasn't of relevance, but who stands around and chats when a demon is breathing down their neck? She was witty though. She pulled some amusing one liners that I couldn't help enjoying.

Christian and his Scottish burr were sexy as they were supposed to be and I liked him too. You have to appreciate a man who tries so hard to do the right thing. But while I get that he was surprised to find himself attracted to Ashley, I honestly think he made the discovery that he loved her 15 times. Blimey! There were a lot of 'oh how he loved her,' 'did she want him as much as he wanted her,' why couldn't he get her off his mind,' etc (or lines of the sort). It did get a little repetitive and a lot of the book was dedicated to it.

Blimey, describes the language in this book perfectly. There were a lot of them, 'bloody hells,' shite/arse and other such classic Englishisms. (I know that isn't really a word, but you know what I mean.) There was also phonetic speech. While this did give the characters character it was really distracting. I mean I had to read the line 'Yer da' numerous times before I figured out it meant your dad. It took me a while to remember that 'ken' could mean know, so that the line 'ye ken' meant you know. Then again "Jaysus, Mary and Joseph" left no question of whether John spoke with an Irish brogue or not. It just sounds right. I guess it is just a think line between some and too much.

All-in-all I liked the book well enough to get the second one. It made me laugh and I liked Devon, so I wanted to know what happens to him.

Ashley is a person who just wants to be normal and fit in, of course that is hard since she can see and talk to ghosts! In search of the truth, Ashley sets out to the Inn she inherits from her aunt with the intention of finding her father, and finding answers that she has been seeking all her life: why did her dad abandon her, and what is the truth behind her curse? When she gets there, she realizes she is in over her head. Nothing is what it appears to be, the people she trusts may be the ones she should be running from, and the powers she has, may not be the only power she possesses. This book is a crazy roller coaster of a book, filled with twists and turns from the beginning to the end. You will be on the edge of your seat trying to put the puzzle pieces together to uncover the truth. It has everything you could ever want in an paranormal romance book: suspense, mystery, danger, and some serious sexual tension. Ashley is a complex character that is strong, yet insecure; smart, yet naive; completely lost, but determined to find the truth. She will have you rooting for her all the way. Cristian is hot, sexy, mysterious and the most bad-ass angel you will ever meet. His bad boy persona, mixed with his angel status is unique and just plain sexy. The mystery surrounding them and the sexual tension between Cristian and Ashley will have you racing through the pages to find out what is going to happen next in the crazy saga that is their unconventional relationship. This wouldn't be a sizzling novel if Cristian didn't have a little competition, and in walks Devon. Devon is another angel that comes back from the dead with one thing in mind, protecting Ashley. This book is a must read. It takes you into a fantasy world that is hidden right in our backyard. A place with hot angels, evil demons, mysterious ghosts, feisty witches, slick werewolves, creepy vampires, and more! There is definitely a little something for everyone. If you love a paranormal romance that is filled with suspense, mystery and sizzling romance, then this is a book for you.

Lori Brighton has published two historical romance novels and this book was her first in the paranormal romance genre. This may be her first in this genre but she doesn’t disappoint. I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited to have found a new and up coming author that does great work.

Ashley inherits an old pub from her aunt and moves there hoping to find out what happened to her dad. She has a gift to be able to see and talk to ghosts. When she was growing up her mother thought she was mentally disturbed when she claimed to see ghosts. So her whole life no one believed her. She even spent time in a hospital for the mentally ill. It’s obvious that these scares run deep in this character.

After she moves in she soon finds out that it is not only haunted but by several different ghost and something else. Then Cristian walks into her life and she’s attracted to him, but also hates him. Cristian has special talents of his own and wants to buy the pub from her but she refuses and he ends up renting a room in the pub. Ashley is not happy about being tricked into renting a room to Cristian because now she has to live with him. He not only makes her angry but also makes her hot in a different sense.

The chemistry between the two is really intense even though she is in denial. This book is filled with sexual tension which I love. It takes them a while to come to terms with their feelings for each other making their attraction that much hotter. They eventually end up having to work together to solve both their problems and what an adventure it is.

This book was beautifully written. I never felt bored or overwhelmed by facts. It is full of lust, love, action and suspense. You will fall in love with all the characters in the story. I would highly recommend this book. I think that this is a perfect book to read for Halloween. It’s got ghost, a haunted house, poltergeists and it’s a little creepy. You should really try reading Lori’s book, you will not be disappointed.

Ashley has moved to England after inheriting a pub from her dead aunt. She hopes to not only find answers about her dad’s disappearance, but also escape the current path her life is on. Upon arrival she realizes the pub is in need of some major TLC. Super sexy Cristian enters the scene and is persistent on trying to buy the building from her. Now she has to fight off his offers and the growing attraction she feels for him. Oh, and did I mention she also talks to ghosts, and the pub just happens to have plenty of them. It is never a dull moment in the life of protagonist Ashley Hunter.

This book was really lots of fun. I enjoyed the protagonist’s snarky sense of humor. I’ve found myself saying her catch phrase, fanfreakingtastic, on more than one occasion. It’s contagious :)

I loved all the paranormal characters this sleepy little English village had to offer. The lore that revolved around what Cristian actually is was quite fascinating. Nice pacing of the plot, and the characters were well developed. I enjoyed the author’s writing style and felt the novel had a very nice flow all around. The ending was open and left me feeling (hoping, dreaming maybe) that a sequel might be possible. I sure hope so! This is a world I’d love to visit again. If that isn’t enough this book offers not one, but two hotties with accents. I was swooning!

The Ghost Hunter is a very enjoyable read. If you like ghost stories, hot boys with accents, and paranormal romance novels with action that isn’t restricted to between the sheets give The Ghost Hunter a try. The fact that this novel is self-published left me even more impressed by author Lori Brighton.

I had very high hopes for this book and the high ratings and good reviews put it at the top of my list. I have to say I am very disappointed in this book. The main character was just down right irritating and the book mentioned a few times about how powerful she was. Where? I never saw anything beyond her seeing, and hearing ghosts, and holding hands with the angel. She was definately kept in the dark way too long and the story could of accomplished what it did in a shorter context. As for her relationship with Christian, well I didn't really feel any kind of connection between the two. I saw more of a spark between her and Devon and even that was really only in the basement when he offed himself. The story was long and felt very disconnected to me and at about 40% through I finally gave up and skimmed the rest of the story. I am a fast reader and when it takes 4 days for me to get through only a quarter of a book, I know its not for me. Everyone has their own tastes, but this book just fell fly for me. Since I've heard so many good thoughts about this author I will try to dig up another book of hers and give it a go in the future.

Lori has really given a whole new meaning to the term Ghost Hunter.
Ashley is an american girl that has just inherited The White Horse Pub and Inn of Crossroads, England,
from her Aunt Clare. But little does Ashley know she has just walked into a part of her life that will
change her completely. Ashley has always been able to see ghosts, she just never new other
supernatural creates existed. But as Ashley explores the old pub she discovers there is more to the pub
than she bargained for. Like Cristian, an angel who has come to protect Ashley. From the first moment
Ashley sets eyes on Cristian she knows she is in trouble. With his golden hair and killer body Ashley
has little will power. Add in some vampires, demon and witches oh my and you have one heck of a story.

I can't wait to start book The Demon Hunter.

I abandoned this book after getting 1/4 the way through. I'm glad I got it free.

I was hoping for a paranormal mystery with maybe a little romance thrown in, but I got a paranormal romance instead and not a very good one at that. There are reasons I don't generally read romance novels and this book had many of the characteristics I dislike -- a clueless heroine, infuriating hero, dumb and obvious plot and too much gratuitous sex/erotica. The story was weak and predictable, the writing uninteresting, and the main characters were unlikable.

This book may sound like it's something from the Sixth Sense (she can speak to dead people) but it is actually very good. There is a big cast of paranormal characters which include Ancient Knights that are now Ushering Angels, Vampires, Werewolves, Faye, Seers, and Witches. There is a plot with twists, turns and surprises to keep you interested.

This was a book to read when you don't want anything that will require too much concentration. And I don't mean that in a bad way at all. I enjoyed it and want to read the second.

Wonderful story, tragedy, romance and a relatively happy ending, author leaves you hanging enough to want to read the-next book to find out what happens with the secondary characters and to see how far along the primary characters progress.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The amount of erotica surprised me, it would have been nice to have gotten a heads up, although it wouldn't have stopped me reading this. I hope to read the next one. Lori is a talented writer and keeps the readers engaged throughout.

Wow. The heroine is a total mop. We hear she has great powers, but what we see is that only knows how to cry and run. Seriously. They tell her to run and she doesn't. Doesn't fight, doesn't even pretend to fight, nothing. I was disappointed.

Terrible. It was poorly written. The main female is annoying and dull while the hero is out right terrible and there is no connection. When it comes to the romance or even friendship it's dead and more like shackling them together than a bond.

**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** Awesome story! It pulled me in from the very beginning. Although I felt it took too long to reveal Cristian's true identity and purpose. I'm also disappointed that I can't find the second book anywhere.

**Update**

I found the second book and OMG!!

Didn't go beyond 30%, I just couldn't get into this book. I didn't feel any connexion or any curiosity about what was going on.
It happens sometimes.

Book Review- Ghost Hunter by Lori Brighton
Ashley inherited a pub in England from her aunt. She is special in the fact that she can see and talk to ghosts. Of course, her whole life up until then has been her trying to suppress her gift. Now she has a pub full pf them and something dark behind a door in the basement. Then this arrogant man shows up trying to get her out of her house. She refuses of course, and the fight seems to be on.
Cristian is a warrior that has been sending ghosts to the other side for centuries. He knows of the evil that lives in Ashley’s basement. He knows what her gifts are and what she really is. She is a seer, his seer. He is a fine male specimen but extremely bossy. Ashley must fight her instant attraction and learn what everyone is keeping from her.
I hate the fact she refuses to accept her gifts and who she is. It irritates me how she ignores it, hoping it will go away. She needed to grow a backbone and step up. She does in the end finally, but I didn’t like her most of the book. Camille was my favorite female. She was willing to help no matter what.
I liked the storyline where the ghosts are seen and heard. I also like the demon in the basement. There is a lot of secrets in this story that eventually come out. Most are kept because of Ashley’s attitude. She gets mad that no one will tell her about her father. Her reaction when she learns explains why they didn’t want to tell her in the first place.
The ending is just a temporary fix. So you know the story will continue and it will be interesting to see where the author takes it. I give this book a 4 out of 5.

Ashley is a very emotional person and very quick to react. Like she'll be fine one minute, then suddenly she's bursting with anger for something stupid. Was she bipolar? Needless to say, I wasn't a fan of her at all. She annoyed me too much with all her emotional outbursts and with how stupid she acted. I would continue with this series if the author could ditch her.

How old was Ashley suppose to be? When she first saw Devon, she figured he was around her age. He was 28. Yet, why did it seem as though she didn't know anything about her power? Seeing and communicating with ghosts? I never understood that. She'd been hospitalized while a teenager...what did she do afterwards? Who wouldn't do some research or something? Did her mother not know her father could see ghosts too? What year was this story suppose to be taking place in? And it's not till Cristian tells her that she's a seer before she even knows what she is. Did they not have internet or libraries here? Sorry but I hate stupid stuff like that.

When she arrives at 'the pub' (which I don't totally understand why it was called that. It had been a pub at one point but no longer, why not call it a house?) Anyways, she's really mean to Maggie, the little kid ghost. Why? She yells at her to go to hell, which seems a bit much. And we learned that Ashley tried to ignore any ghosts that came her way, "she hated them." So why did she suddenly change her mind with all the ghosts in her house?

"They didn't have real feelings. They didn't care about anyone but themselves." Where did she get that info? Or how all the ghosts are evil? Or surprised when she realizes that ghosts felt shame? "They hadn't been good, in fact they'd been pretty damn bad. But they'd been hers, the only family she'd had." What in the hell is she talking about? None of the ghosts even remembered what they'd done while alive and none of them had done anything to her since she moved in.

Ashley is a tease, plain and simple. I'm surprised Cristian ever went back for a second making out, considering he was the one doing all the work, she getting all the benefit and he left with a hard on.

One witchy reference was really funny that of course, I have to mention. After reading the spell that Camilie performs on Devon to get him to remember (I think it was.) she starts it by saying "the father, the son and holy spirit..." Um...wiccans/pagans...people that practice witchcraft don't believe in Jebus or God or the holy spirit. The fact that the author has a 'witch' perform a spell involving Jebus? She obviously has no clue what she's talking about.

I was really annoyed with how Ashley was always saying she wasn't like Camilie/the freaks in the town. I get she was hospitalized for years because no one believed she saw ghosts but still....why not just tell everyone you no longer saw them? I didn't get that.

What was with Ashley's relationship with Devon? They had just met, he was a ghost and unless they had more of a relationship that wasn't in the book then IDK. She was always commenting about him and how she liked him a lot, he was a great person, he would never kill Cristian, blah, blah, blah...they didn't even know each other!

When Devon and Cristian were sword fighting, why was Ashley trying to hurt Cristian? Camilie had given her some bottles of randoness to throw at him. Why "try and get rid of him" when he was the only one who seemed to know what was going on and was trying to do something about the demon?

If you find out the guy/angel you like has a demon father trapped in your basement...why would you not ever ask how that came about? I mean why was he considered a demon and not just a ghost?

Cristian told Ashley that every ghost he has to 'help' move on "wronged another being, actually wronged more than one and didn't feel a bloody thing about it." What did the little girl ghost do?

Ashley goes to town to inform them that she needs their powers to destroy the demon. Why? It was so random of her to go off and do this, not to count the fact she doesn't even know what any of the townsfolk are, much less, their powers.

How did Devon bond himself to Cristian's father?

When Cristian realizes that Ashley feels the same about him, as he does her...why/how did he never think of the fact that he doesn't age? It's just coincidence that Gabriel shows up and he can change back to a mortal.

A few stupid moments for Ashley:

When Cristian cuts Ashley's hand...wow...I don't even know what to say about Ashley there. I mean she was worried about getting a disease? This, after realizing that Cristian was an angel?

She finds out that Rose and Cristian were working together and is surprised? Um...they did show up at your house together.

Prior to her killing the vampire "they could have demon's rights for all she knew and she'd end up on death row for murder." Or the fact that vampires are already dead so technically she wouldn't be killing it "well tell that to the jury." Seriously? The guys head is lying in front of you and his body is still standing...

Why was Ashley embarrassed to tell Camilie and Rose about the demon in the basement? They're all about supernatural, that was just a really stupid moment there.

Why did Ashley think she'd have to fight the demon by herself? This being after she finds out the whole town is suppose to help her.

Why in the world was Ashley so upset when she found out that Devon had been married? "Had he loved the woman, or had it been some sort of arranged marriage?" The guy is like 100 years old and a ghost...

There were several times where Ashley thought Cristian left for good or wasn't going to help with the demon...Really? I get she's stupid but come on!

"He killed his own father? Dear God, what sort of man could kill his own father?" This before she even knows what the situation was. Come on Ashley, work with us here.

Ashley is surprised when she finds out that everyone already knows about her 'powers.' Was she able to do more than mentioned in the story. She could communicate with ghosts and .......?

Ashley knows that Cristian is an angel, he helps ghosts move on. Yet, here comes Ashley trying to get Devon to help her because Cristian wants to KILL Maggie. Really?

When Devon tells her that he can see Cristian's aura on her she says "She had no idea a person could imprint their aura onto another person (I'm surprised she even knew what an aura was?) and she wasn't sure she liked it, or believed him." BUT "she felt branded, like a cow." Um...that was a 180 there.

A mix of different supernatural species that live in a small town and just want to be normal. When they are anything but. They don't usually mix together beyond socializing in the local pub. Until Ashley Hunter comes to town. She starts off like a doormat. But that doesn't last long. At times the story comes together and it hooks you. Others, it just dragged. Overall a good story.

Droll and contrite

I really didn't like any of the characters and the storyline was weak. Drawn out in predictable sequences, I had enough in the final fight season when I decided that my time was better spent elsewhere.

It’s really more of a 2-star book but I loved it when I read it in high school so I gave it an extra star 😂 I swear this story is just like Twilight so if you like those books you should love this one! But beware of cringy dialogue!
