Katsura, a teen archer who suffers from anxiety attacks, must learn to regain his confidence in archery, stop relying on teammate Sou's hugs to control his anxiety, and come to terms with his growing romantic feelings for Sou....
Well... I can't say I really liked it. As a story, it was a somewhat cute concept and I would have enjoyed it in novel form, but I found the order and the pictures completely disorienting and I don't think I can really read Yaoi and enjoy it, just because of the strange format. Or really like comic books. But I got through it.
The characters were cute and the romance was sweet and the archery background interesting... so I'm not really complaining about the content, although sometimes pages seemed to be misplaced or I got lost... but I'd rather not read more.
This series is probably one of my top ten favorite manga series. Sometimes cute, sometimes sweet, sometimes serious. It's got love feels, friend feels, family feels, growing up feels. Lovely art, and lots and lots of archery!! *happy*
I really enjoyed this series. I hesitated reading this for a while because the main character looked a bit young, but since there are no explicit scenes, it wasn't a problem in the end. (I'm very picky about these things.)
What was interesting for me was that while I wasn't entirely happy with the pairing in the end, I also wasn't really unhappy - it could have ended either way and I'd have been fine.
What I liked best about Rin! was the whole archery stuff - it looked really beautiful.
Sou is Katsura's 'comfort' and his older brother's best friend. Whenever Sou is nervous Katsura has been there, to give him a little squeeze.
I'm not expert but I really think the drawings and the uncomplicated storyline makes this for very easy reading. I do enjoy reading yaoi in this format as well.
Enjoyed the art. Slow story that's not just about the romance, but goes into the philosophy of archery as well. But for a few scenes I would have no problems adding it to the teen collection. As it is, I'll suggest it to the adult collection. It's a good story and there are people looking for more shounen ai/yaoi titles.
Not too captivating, certainly not enough to warrant buying the rest of the series.
First published in 2006 the book was pretty pricey for June manga coming in at $13. The book is nothing special and even the slice of life antics don’t lead you anywhere new or interesting.
One boy loves his older friend who is constantly there to help him with his anxiety, meanwhile his classmate confesses his love to him, which makes the other one jealous and you get drama before it all comes to a head during the archery finale.
The art is pretty enough and thats all it really has going for it. The boys get together in the end at least, no cliffhanger. Shows its age a little bit by having poor translations and having the topic if homosexuality in strange and awkward conversations.
“The way your instructions are right now. They’re a nuisance to the underclassmen. Go cool your head off off a bit.” Really you couldn’t’ve found a more fluid way of writing that.
Ummmmm...so...ummm Y'ALL-I picked up this series randomly, skimmed the back, not really knowing what it was about. Well let me tell you IT WAS ABOUT TO GET CRAZY THAT'S WHAT. I didn't even know the plot or anything. I have regrets in life. Is this one of them? Maybe. The characters in the first one were fun and stuff then everything kinda went down hill after that one. Plot holes. Confusing dialogue. The main conflict is never resolved. So yea. That's all. I'm done talking about it and we WONT ever have to talk about what happened again. Period end of story.
I like to think of myself as something of a yaoi connaisseur, but this was somewhat confusing to understand. The paneling and storyline was a little all over the place and in some places I felt like the translation itself was lacking.
Overall it was pretty okay. They were cute, I guess, and as far as BL goes this was far less problematic than most of them.
I’ve read this series several times and it always sticks out in my mind when I try to think of my favorite mangas. It’s such a gentle romance (even if Sou is a big jerk at times!!!) and the art is so beautiful.
I love the illustrator but most of her mangas use very disturbing tropes and topics (victim-blaming rape, etc). This one does not, and it's super sweet and fluffy. I liked the following volumes less, but the first one is perfect.
Good if you want a character driven BL romance but less interesting if you're in it for sex. The series hits all of the tropes normally seen in a sports manga/anime but with two dudes in love.

I loved this manga, the story is simple but interesting and I was never bored. Sou is a sempai in the archery club and is the vice-captain of it, while Katsura's older brother is the captain. They're both good at archery and all the kouhai watch their shooting and want to become like them. Katsura suffers from panic attacks and all the time he and Sou have a special method to free him of the issue, an hug. Sou that is always stoic, hugs Katsura all the time the boy needs it without thinking about the location. Katsura knows that one day when Sou will get a girlfriend they will need to stop doing this, but he doesnt know how to stop. Sou is his brother best friend and Katsura knows him since he was little, for over 12 years Sou has been also his friend and he doesnt want to be separated from him. Katsura still doesnt understand that those feelings arent only of friendship. Sou loved Katsura since he was only a boy and their hugging ritual started. From the first day he hugged Katsura he never wanted to let him go, he turns down all the girls that confess to him and we never see him thinking about wanting to go out with someone, his mind is only focused on Katsura and archery. One day he goes to the library and is shocked by what he sees. Katsura and Kouichi(the boy best friend) are talking and the boy asks Katsura if he wants to try him as hugging substitute, Katsura says to him that he isnt anxious at the moment, and Kouichi then kisses him. Sou that watches all the scene would like to go in and stop them, but he knows he doesnt have that right, so he decides to run away. Katsura is surprised and doesnt know how to react , that was his first kiss and he didnt feel anything for Kouichi, at the same moment he remembers how hugging Sou was, and understands that something is different. While hugging Sou he always felt his heart race, a thing he didnt feel now. To make the story shorter, bcs is really a long manga..... Sou and Katsura will talk and confess their mutual feelings, we will see Sou getting jealous a lot of times bcs all the ppl seem they wanna kiss Katsura and never ask him for permission....Kouichi will not give up till the end, but at least will understand he cant go on kissing Katsura by surprise when he wants, also bcs the other boy will tell him these same words one day after he gets pissed of Kouichi 's attitude. Another rival will come and him too will kiss Katsura by surprise, but will be rejected soon after that by the boy. Katsura's brother is awesome, when we see in the first volume Katsura asking him if he shouldnt stop him from feeling like this for Sou, he tells him that it doesnt matters who he loves, but that he is happy. Sou and Katsura are a cute couple, and also if sometimes i felt bad for Sou, bcs most of the time he had to witness other men(Kouichi mostly and 1 time that other rival) kissing or hugging his lover, in the end we see that no one can come btw the 2 boys, their love is pure and innocent, a first love. I must admit that Kouichi stealing Katsura's first kiss pissed me, and i felt really bad for Sou bcs he saw all the scene, but in the end that wasnt a proper kiss and he will experience it, with Sou. When they make love for the first time, I am pretty sure is also Sou's first time ever, since we have never seen him talking about previous experiences and we didnt see any scene of that kind before, and anyway he was in love with Katsura for all his young life and they have only 1 year of difference. I really liked this couple, they are sweet and cute and i hoped the manga would show their life in college, but we only see Sou and Katsura's brother going to college and Katsura and Kouichi becoming the new captains of the archery club of the high-school. Good manga, not all was perfect but is one of the best i ever read the same.

I liked it and I sort of didn't. I suppose because I'm not a big fan of love triangle type of stories. Especially, when the good guy is the one that's usually left out in the cold.
That's why I try to write a story where there's someone for everyone without the rebounds.
I loved the detailing of a Japanese archery club. This was my highlight from this manga. Out of all the characters, the brother was the one I liked the most.
The story it self was light as expected from a light novel. Oh wait, was it supposed to be a light novel?
This is one of the better yaoi I've read for many reasons. The story focuses a lot on the character development on Katsura and his relationship with his brother and love interest. The romance comes about naturally and there isn't anything nonconsensual about their relationship, which is very different, unfortunately, from a lot of popular yaoi titles. His parents also challenge traditional gender roles, although his mother is mostly absent.
One of my favorites. As far as yaoi books go this one was almost perfect. It pulled me in and moved me. It wasn't rushed or anything and that’s what makes it so good. It will forever have a spot on my book shelf. ^_^,
While I enjoyed this story, it was more of a yaoi for beginners. There wasn't much romantic tension between the guys and it was a bit slow going since not much was actually happening. The ending was very sweet however.
This was actually my first manga. I thought it was really cute, and I enjoyed it a lot. I didn't find the characters annoying like I do in some other manga, and it was, overall, psychologically interesting and charged with all kinds of good, plot-forwarding tension.
