The idea is tremendous, although the quality of writing is something less. Nonetheless I found this thoroughly enjoyable and hope that more writers choose cricket to feature in their murder mysteries.
An enjoyable little adventure written from the perspective of a young gentleman called Fairhurst whose attempts at reaching the 1902 Fifth Test lead him into a case with Sherlock Holmes. As I am not a cricket fan I did find the Test section towards the end of the novel a bit long winded but otherwise I really enjoyed this.
3 3/4 Stars. No outstanding but a solid book. It helps to have some knowledge of cricket before reading or you might get lost in the terminology and nuances.

+ an entertaining story + the cricket, where it appears in the text, is gripping + there is a section at the back giving details of the actual 1902 fifth test, and short descriptions of the players
