The undisputed leader in medical pharmacology, without equal. Updated to reflect all critical new developments in drug action and drug-disease interaction. This is the “desert island” book of all medical pharmacology—if you can own just one pharmacology book, this is it.
As a post grad student in Medical Faculty, majoring in Pharmacology, it's actually A MUST to read this super thick book. The English used in it was not too technical, so it's actually a good thing if you're a freshmen in Med School. All in all this book is a definite must have for any medical student out there
There are few technical books that remain in a leadership position for 65 years. The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics is one. Physicians, teachers, and medical students have voted for Goodman & Gilman with their feet and with their pocketbooks for over six decades.
We used the latest edition (13th) as our main reference book for our Pharmacology subject but, I could not find that edition all over GR. Hence, I will write my review here.
Quite frankly, this book was hard to love. I do not recommend this for beginners because it is too technical. I love the concepts and how the content is up-to-date. But, I felt like there is only a handful of chapters that are well-written and well-organized (e.g., Pneumonia, Giardiasis). I only get to appreciate it after a month of reading.
If you are a beginner, I suggest you read Katzung first so you would not be overwhelmed. You can couple it with other educational tools and readings available online (i.e., Osmosis, Amboss, CPG). I know I mentioned in my other reviews that this subject is hard but, learning it is fun!

This was my favorite text while in school in 1985. I thought I'd like to review the newest version to update my knowledge base. While it's still great I miss a lot of the historical pearls that were dropped from the older version
