On the Media calls Darby Conley "the most successful cartoonist of the new generation." --National Public Radio
* More than one million Get Fuzzy books have been sold-and the three most recent books have been New York Times best-sellers. Loserpalooza is the third treasury, collecting strips from New York Times best-sellers and .
Loserpalooza is Darby Conley's latest look at the interspecies antics of his wildly popular characters Bucky, Satchel, and Rob. At the center of this not-so-warm-and-fuzzy arrangement is Rob Wilco, a single, mild-mannered ad exec. Bucky is Rob's temperamental, buck-toothed Siamese cat with a penchant for mischief, a hatred of ferrets, and a love of rubber bands. Satchel is a sweet but naive shar-pei-yellow-Lab mix who haplessly ends up on the receiving end of Bucky's wayward schemes. An entertaining critique on popular culture and a bona fide hit, Get Fuzzy was named Best Comic Strip of the year in 2002 by the National Cartoonists Society and now appears in more than 400 newspapers worldwide.
Darby Conley is an American cartoonist best known for the popular comic strip Get Fuzzy.
Conley was born in Concord, Massachusetts in 1970, and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee.
While in high school in 1986, he won a student cartooning competition. During his Senior Year at Doyle High School (now South-Doyle High School) in Knoxville, Conley was voted 'Most Talented' by his graduating class. He attended Amherst College, where he studied Fine Arts, drew cartoons for the student newspaper, played rugby, and was a member of an all-male, jazz-influenced a cappella group, the Zumbyes. (Fellow cartoonist alumni of Amherst include FoxTrot creator Bill Amend and the late John Cullen Murphy of Prince Valiant fame.)
Like Rob Wilco, the human protagonist in Get Fuzzy, Conley is an enthusiastic rugby union fan, playing during college and sustaining several injuries that failed to diminish his passion for the sport.
Before becoming a cartoonist, Conley held a wide array of jobs: elementary school teacher, art director for a science museum, lifeguard, and bicycle repairman. This eclectic collection of professions is reminiscent of those held by Douglas Adams, whom Conley has mentioned as a comedic influence.
Conley, an animal rights activist and vegetarian, lives in Boston.
Who can resist a snaggle-toothed, cranky, monkey-obsessed cat who can perform a haka worthy of the New Zealand rugby team?
Or a naively clever, happy (usually) pooch who manages to show that he is not always quite as dim-witted as he seems?
I enjoyed the Get Fuzzy comic strip in the newspaper while living in Arizona, so this book was great fun. Some sections I remember and others were new to me. One of my favorites was when Bucky gets stuck in the duct work and calls for help and poor overawed Satchel thinks he is hearing the voice of God: "Satchel! You have to let me out of your air vent!" "But God...why for art thou innest my air vent to beginnith with...ith?"
Another cool thing about this book was that it listed a website to read Get Fuzzy and tons of other comic strips online at http://www.gocomics.com. I never knew about such a thing; I feel a little bit like Satchel at the moment.
The latest Get Fuzzy comic strip, Loozerpalooza, includes Bucky's obsession with monkeys, making an episode of MTV cribs, and being smacked around by a chicken. Satchel is lovable as always, and has an un-Satchel moment in the beginning to go off on Bucky for always making fun of him. And Rob puts up with both their antics as usual.
I love this latest Get Fuzzy comic, and can't wait to read more. I love how Bucky sets his mind to something and how Satchel and Rob always have to put up with it.
all hail bucky katt....and all hail darby conley for creating him. i think that anyone that has a cat must see a little bucky in their pet, but i'm tellin ya people....i see a whole lot of bucky in my cat....
The funniest comic strip I've ever read. Darby is amazingly clever; I've read all of these books several times and they never cease to make me laugh. I wish I could afford to send a set of them to all of my friends. In fact, I'm thinking of buying a set and giving them to Jared for his wedding.
Bucky and Satchel are a hilarious and unlikely team of cat and dog, whether Bucky Cat ever admits to it or not. "Loserpalooza" made me explode with laughter more than once in a crowded, public bookstore... Readers beware: side splitting laughter awaits all those who adventure here!
this book is filled is filled with bucky's non stop obsessive to eat a monkey, to get rid of of the next door ferret, and to challenge a chicken, but will the chicken be the loser or will Bucky be the chicken? Find out in "get fuzzy".
Sometimes I just can't handle anything more than "comfort reading" as I call it. Just sitting around reading books I've read before or comic books like this. I love Get Fuzzy. I love Bucky. I don't care that he's mean sometimes (most of the time) (nearly all the time), he's just too funny.
Darby Conley knows cats and this collection shows that wit and wisdom. A funny collection of comics for anyone who lives with dogs and cats and still doesn't know who runs the household.
This is a very large and very good collection of some fuzzy funnies. Lots of adventures with that crazy psycho cat bucky and his friends. It is really hard to not like a book like this that can make you laugh and smile.
Darby Conley's Get Fuzzy comic strip is fantastic. The artwork is very funny and detailed and I enjoy the jokes, the puns, and the interactions between Satchel the dog, Bucky the cat, and Rob the human. Loserpalooza is another fun collection of strips. Very entertaining.
I am totally biased because I have a cat named Bucky (short for Bucephalus, but still). This has a lot of the ferret escapades, the trip to Canada, and Chubby Hugs. Love it.
