Nick Logan had a gift for counseling teens who came from violent homes, but his job at the Rockford Crime Victims' Center wasn't easy. Three years ago he and Madelyn Walsh had started out as coworkers and turned into lovers. Until he'd broken their engagement, convinced anyone else would make a better husband. Now Madelyn was Dr. Walsh and the boss. Their new relationship was about rules-- not romance-- and she wasn't about to let herself fall for him again. But time had taught Nick a thing or two about love-- like not worrying too much about being wrong for her if she was right for him... .
Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.
Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."
Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.
Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.
Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.
Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."
The Wrong Man for Her: The Logan Brothers is by Kathryn Shay. This is book 2 in the series. It is definitely one which makes you want to continue reading until you are finished. It hits all the emotions you might have. This book deals with counseling young people through victimization by crimes, rape, and bullying. It also deals with the people who are counseling these young people. Nick Logan has returned to Rockford with his brother and his family and his Mother with whom he is still estranged. When Ben and Tessa moved, Nick wanted to be near them and his nieces so he came back to the Rockford Crime Victims Center where he had previously worked. He had come back to work for John but was surprised upon his return to learn that John was semi-retiring and had turned the Center over to Dr. Madelyn Walsh. Nick was floored. He and Maddie had been a couple until he broke it off and left. He had no idea Maddie was at the Center or he would never have agreed to come back. Now that he knew that John’s wife Lucy had a heart attack and that was why John was leaving, he had to stay. He couldn’t let them down. However, he was very reluctant to work for Maddie. Although Maddie knew Nick was coming back, she felt she had to give him a chance for John’s sake. She knew it would be rough but since she was in charge, she felt she could do this. The first glitch in her plans was the failure of the Center to get another grant to hire a second counselor to help Nick with his group session with teens. She felt this was absolutely necessary to be able to give the teens the best counseling possible. Since she couldn’t find anyone for this position, she decided to do it herself. Nick and Maddie working so closely together was tumultuous. Could they handle things between them and not let their personal lives get in the way of helping the teens they pledged to help? Could Nick handle this and the idea that his parents were reconciling after his Father had embezzled money and had been sent to prison and after his Mother had thrown him out of the house when he was sixteen? What or who would give first?
I remember reading this book years back and enjoying it for what it was. After reading quite a few books these past few weeks I felt this one would be the perfect pallet cleanser and it was. It had everything you could need in a quick romance read. Nick, the accomplished good looking man with a troubled past. Maddie, the hard working and determined woman who wants to hate Nick but still secretly loves him. The parental figures both needed growing up along with supportive friends and some amazing teens fighting to get back to being normal teens with the help on Nick and Maddie who also, fight to overcome their dark pasts and fight for the love they both deserve.
The rating was lower only because the end had so much more potential then it was given. It was wrapped up too quick and left too many unanswered questions. I enjoyed for a fast read but felt there was quite a bit lacking that the readers would have enjoyed to know about certain teens and adults.
Loved this continuation book from Tell Me No Lies. Nick and Maddie have many issues in their lives to come to terms with and Kathryn does a great job in bringing them around. Loved the intrigue in this book. A fantastically written book.
