Rio Laraquette thought the legend was nothing more than an enchanted tale about star-crossed lovers who left behind a fortune. That is, until she figures out that she—in a past life—was the culprit who stole a shipment of gold and silver and buried it somewhere in the hills of northern Nevada.
While searching for the treasure, Rio's heart begins to ache for a man who's been dead more than one hundred years. They say time heals all wounds, but what if it doesn't...?

You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
In a twist of fate and a love for the ages, Sandra Edwards has built a romance that warms the heart. She has taken actual events from history and the lore of the gold rush days, and spun a story of love and heartache, a love so pure it seems like a dream. The characters are sensual and just a glimpse of our hero in a painting is enough to send the heart into overdrive, with a heat that leaves you shaken.
Rio Laraquette is a feisty but beautiful woman; on her own, she runs numerous cons. When she meets up with Turner Adkins, he has a job for her. He is a gangster of the worst sort and he has a game in mind to find himself some money. And not just any money either. He is looking for the buried treasure stolen by the Fuller sisters during a bank robbery back in the 1800's . What makes this con perfect is that Rio is the spitting image of Maggie Fuller.
Molly Fuller was killed during the robbery, Mary Fuller got away and home to California, but Maggie headed for the hills and there found a home with the Washoe Indian tribe. It was here that she met and fell in love with Tajan, the love of her life. But love and life was not to be for such star crossed lovers. When the posse caught up with her, Tajan tried to help her get away. She refused to head towards California and lead the posse to her only living sister, so they went the other direction and here found themselves at a dead end. With the posse in sight and knowing they would die, they chose to be together in death, leaping from the cliff and sealing themselves in their love for eternity.
As Rio poses as a relative of the Tajan's, her image is so much like Maggie's that any doubt melts away. There is a map, or at least half a map in the possession of the Tajan family, and Rio has the other half, given to her by Turner Adkins. She is to get them to lead her to the treasure, whereby he will then take control.
Sandra Edwards has built a strong yet fragile character in Rio. She finds herself in love with the Tajan of the story. She is drawn to him, or at least his likeness. She is so enamored she dreams of him, but the dreams are real. It is as if she is there. In love with the thought of him, the heat level is intense. What is happening to her? She feels as though she is someone else, and that Tajan somehow belongs to her. But he is dead, isn't he?
The Tajan of the story is a bold and noble warrior. Very much in love with Maggie, he is devastated when he thinks he will lose her. He is willing to give his life for their love, and understands there will never be another love like that he feels for her.
As the story comes together and the danger threatens to tear them apart, Ms Edwards has found the most beautiful solution and ending. In a brilliant and bold stroke of her pen, she has set the stage to bring Tajan and Maggie's love back to life. There is magic in this kind of love, creating the emergence of souls that resonate and return time after time, secure in a love that is everlasting.
Rio is a young woman who is looking for a map that would lead her boss to a treasure. In order to do her job, she has to pose as a relative of a native american family, the real owners of the treasure and the ones who have the other half of the map. But when she discovers she's exactly as Maggie, one of their ancestors, she starts to doubt.
Rio is very strong yet also fragile. Her life haven't been easy and now she's staring to have visions/dreams about Tajan and Maggie, the tragic love story that is mixed with the treasure. She starts to fall in love with Tajan, but he's dead and those visions aren't real, right?
Maggie and Tajan story is very romantic and dramatic. I don't want to giveaway spoilers, but even when Rio's story is complicated and at some time I thought it wasn't going to end well, the author manages to found the best ending.
The characters are well written and the plot is interesting, but personally, it was difficult to me to be engaged in the story. Maybe it was because I prefer fast paced book.
Overall, I did't love it but it was still interesting. Maybe you will like it more that me, it has a good plot and interesting characters, and a beautiful love story.
Magical, whimsical, enchanting..Those are the words I would use to describe this book. It pulled me in from the very beginning. Sandra Edwards delivered a riveting cast that I absolutely fell in love with. The stories of Maggie and Tajan that were spread throughout the book were beautiful and had me reaching for a tissue...or two. The love that is expressed in this book radiates off the pages, and you too can feel it. It is rare that an author can explain and capture such feelings but Edwards nailed it. The character Rio is someone all women can relate to. She is a strong, independent woman and she screams confidence but behind all that she is just a girl that is still dreaming of her happy ever after. It's hard to put into words how wonderful this book really is, it is something that you'll have to experience for yourself. The story of Maggie and Tajan will forever stick with you.
The plot of Broken Wings is unique and refreshing and will have you flying through the pages. I cannot wait to get my hands on Book 2 of the Soul Searchers series. This is a must, Must, MUST read! You will be missing out big time if you don't pick this book up. Another winner from Sandra Edwards!
Before I even get into the story, I have to mention that cover...not too bad, huh? Moving on, this is a romance novel with class, and it was a really fun read.
Rio Laraquette is a lot of different things. She's strong, independent, and just the right amount of vulnerable. I also saw her as a risk-taker. I like reading about this type of person since I am definitely not a taker of risks. She starts off as a treasure hunter, looking gold that was buried a long time ago. As she gets pulled deeper into the history of the Native American family, the Tajans, she realizes she is connected to the treasure in an unbelieveable way. Billy Tajan was great as her helpful, caring cousin. Plus, I have a hard time finding any flaws with a hottie type Native American. I love how Rio and Billy's stories played out in the end.
A fun and entertaining read. The end of Broken Wings makes me excited to think of where the next book will take Rio. I love me some Romance!
In Forgotten Soul by Sandra Edwards, Rio Laraquette is a con-artist who is hired to steal half of a map to a treasure that was buried many years ago in the times when there were bank robbers and Indians. Little does Rio know she is actually going to find out about her own ancestors(Maggie and her Indian husband Tajan) that she didn't know existed and everything she believed wasn't necessarily the truth about her life. This story had it all-romance, heartbreak, mystery, magic and surprises I was not expecting. Things are not always what they seem. Forgotten Soul has many story lines that kept me interested and wondering what is going to revealed next, especially Maggie and Tajan's story that part had me in tears. Check it out I am sure you will not be disappointed, I wasn't. Sandra Edwards writes captivating characters with wonderful descriptions. Thoroughly enjoyed this book which is book #1 in the Soul Searcher Series.
Started with a set-up with Vegas grifters that just didn't appeal at all and I let it sit a couple weeks, debating whether to bother with it, but ended up a halfway decent bunch of twists and reincarnation fluff, bad guys meeting Karma, and a twist at the end I didn't see coming, so not the waste I initially thought it was going to be.
Ew. That was more of a backhanded compliment than I intended... I meant the opening was a bit weak but it redeemed itself. Many freebies piss me off and this, surprisingly, did not. A solid 3 stars.
I don't know what to say about this book. I really couldn't get into it. I finally turned my text to speech on its fasted setting rather than quit reading. That helped me get past the boring parts. I must admit that I almost quit reading it. The saving grace was the Washoe history. But ... still... I guess it just didn't grab me.
I do recommend it to my Nevada, Reno, Carson City, Las Vegas friends. Oh, and Virginia City. These are the settings for the history and current story lines.
This was an interesting time travel type book. It takes place in now times but flashes to the good rush times in northern Nevada. A soul from the past is in the body of someone in the present which helps in the finding of a treasure buried in the past. Bad guys, romance, adventure and a twist at the end I didn't see coming.
Broken Wings is the first book I have read by Sandra Edwards but it won’t be the last. This is one talented author that makes the story come to life. To read this review in its entirety, please visit http://www.blackravensreviews.com/?p=...
I really enjoyed this book. It was so easy to relate to Rio's character in this book. How are it was for her when it came to her past life. For someone who never lets her guard down, you could feel her internal struggle with her past love. It shows that your soul can never let go or give up.
This book has been re-titled-Forgotten Soul (Soul Searchers Series: Book 1)
What a wonderful read! I loved everything about this book! Very interesting story line that has it all with just a touch of magic.. I loved all the characters especially the Tajan family. Can't wait for book 2.
Good read. I liked how the story of Maggie and Tajan gave us a western historical while Rio and her con kept us in the present. I also liked how the Tajan family knew the story of their ancestors. Kept me reading. Now I need to read the next story.
Paranormal romance with a female lead who starts to feel her former life as the wife of an Indian Brave while running a con....or is she? It was alright, I'm just not that into het romances right now.
This book was a fast and fun read. I thought it was good, but am undecided if I will contine the series. So many great books, so little time to read...
This was an enjoyable book to read. Nothing fancy and not overly discriptive, which was a nice change from heavy imagery. The story was good and I enjoyed the book overall.
This was a good book - I was totally not expecting the twist at the end. The romance wasn't overly descriptive, and it was a fun read. I'd be interested in continuing the series, at the library.
I recieved this book in exchange foe an honest review. I loved this book. I loved Rioand mmaggie. This book was easy to fall into and watch the movie in my own head. I look forward to reading book 2
