A fresh retelling of this classic story recounts the adventures and perils of Christian on his dangerous journey from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. On the road, he meets terrifying monsters, horrible giants, a cruel judge, raging lions and scary dark places. But he also makes good friends and, at last, reaches his journey's end - the Celestial City. Illustrations by popular children's illustrator Steve Smallman add to the drama and emotion of John Bunyan's classic tale, making this is an ideal introduction to Christian values.
Tim Dowley (Ph.D. in church history, University of Manchester) has been at the forefront of writing and editing for a new generation of resources on biblical studies and church history.
I have wanted to read this for so long and I figured this version was a great place to start. I loved the story and all the symbolism. Cant wait to read this to my boys!
Definitely a GREAT adaptation of this really old book. :) I was VERY surprised that my kids wanted to read this night after night. They enjoyed the storyline and the illustrations, and my seven year old especially loved the symbolism. Who knew?!!! I am now even MORE convinced that children should be exposed to "harder classics" (adapted for their age) early, so that when they read the originals years from now they will be familiar with the stories and the characters and find the reading much easier.
Just read it as a family read aloud tonight. Only took a little over an hour to finish. Manning loved the awesome illustrations and Haley enjoyed the names of characters that represented their personality. It's a very good abridged children's version picture book.
Loved this children's version of the classic. Following the right path when life goes wrong and dealing with obstacles you come across on your journey.
