All Cheyenne ever wanted was to know where she belonged. Daughter of a white man and a native woman, she lived as an outcast among the white people of New Mexico and never knew anyone that was like her. Until the day he stepped off the train. Wolf Runner was his name and he, too, was a half-breed. She was drawn to him, to the kindred spirit she felt within him. He would reveal to her the mysteries of his Blackfoot people. He would show her how to walk tall in the presence of the white man. He would let her run wild with him in his Rocky Mountains alongside the wolves. And beneath the silvery light of a Montana moon, his seduction would awaken her maiden's heart and…

She says: "I have always loved history, and I loved storytelling — it was only natural that I would one day put them both together. I must have lived in another life and time, because when I write, I can almost feel I was there. My favorite part of writing is the research. Whenever possible, I will go to the place I am writing about to walk the land and smell the air."
Wolf Runner had been injured in a fight with a raiding party from another tribe. Fearing that her son would go looking for revenge. She sends him on a mission to New Mexico. Wolf Runner's mother Rain Song (Marianna) is white but had lived with the Blackfoot tribe since she was 13. Married to Wind Warrior a respected Indian amongst his people. She has never considered returning to the white mans world, but she owns a ranch in New Mexico, and wants Wolf Runner to go as someone wants to buy it. An old friend who cared for her when she was young has written asking for a favour, Rain song charges her son to call on and grant Ivy Gatling any help she needs while there.
Ivy Gatling knows she is dying, and wants Wolf Runner to take her young granddaughter Cheyenne who is a half breed to his village where she will be safe. The journey back is fraught with peril, and both Cheyenne and Wolf Runner encounter many dangers. As they journey together Wolf Runner is becoming more attracted to the beautiful Cheyenne. But he is promised to Blue Dawn, who is expecting to join with him on his return.
Loved this follow-up story to Wind Warrior. Emotional and full of action and romance. With fabulous characters, a great read.
I did enjoy the read. It did lack more interaction and romance between the two main characters. I love Historical Romances that involve, Indian/White characters. The romantic part of the book of them "coming together" took waaaay too long to come about. I have read Constance's Savage Series which I truly enjoyed. As well as her Enchanted Temptress, this was a little disappointing. But, I will still continue to read her books. These characters were very likable, again only lacking was the more romantic parts.
Both characters are half breeds. He is part Blackfoot, she part Cheyenne. He is sent by his white mother to the ranch they own and also to see what an old friend wants. He discovers the old friend wishes for his family to care for her granddaughter as she is dying. The granddaughter has other ideas. It's a battle of wills and eventually she goes with him to find her Cheyenne Grandfather. This is their story. HEA ending. I believe this is book 2. Book 1 being Wind Warrior.
They are both half-breeds. He is Blackfoot and she is Comanche. She has been raised as white lady. He has been raised to be comfortable in both worlds but his heart is Blackfoot. Their story was wonderful to read and yet to read how they were treated in those days was heart breaking. Lots of laughter and tears, a great read. Very enjoyable.
I gave this book four stars. I would recommend this book on long car drive while your hubby drives! How you can go from hating(maybe) to loving them and missing them when they're gone for them to come back, and your life starts from there.....
