** 4-4,5 “tell me something” STARS **

“Your profile ought to be pressed upon a coin.”

“Your body ought to be pressed upon mine.”

This book was exactly what I'd needed: A mix of cum and tears.

The first half left me panting and desperate to call my boyfriend and demand he get dressed and come over IMMEDIATELY...while the second half was so heart-wrenching that my pillow was drenched with tears when I read the last sentence of the story.

“If you want to say no, say it now.” He shook his head. “Not two minutes from now, not five minutes from now.” With one hand, he slowly pulled free the ribbons of her bonnet. “NOW, OR NOT AT ALL.

“Passion” Elizabeth Dare is a dutiful daughter, a dedicated sister, a respectable widow and a helpful cousin. Her dull life, with all the unfulfilled dreams and desires, turns a sharp corner one day, when she gives herself to a stranger with piercing dark blue eyes, enveloped by the smell of lemon verbena, behind a large screen at an exhibition, which is a VERY public place. A stranger she has yet to be able to forget. All she has left of him now are the delicious soreness between her legs and the handkerchief with the letter “M” monogrammed with dark blue threads, that he gave to her when she cried tears of longing and passion.

Passion needs to see this man again. She needs to feel his hands on her body and his words in her ears. But…is he even thinking of her? Wishing for her? Longing for her…like she is for him?

Randolp “Mark” Hawkmore, Earl of Langley, is a very popular man amongst the available women of London. He always gets the woman he wants, for one night, and leaves her without the need to look back. Not this time, though. Awareness of the body and scent of the lady with the softest auburn hair and sweetest smell of vanilla and orange blossoms has overcome Mark in a dizzying rush, refusing to abandon his mind. Leaving her behind, without even learning her name, had been a mistake. A terrible one.

Mark needs to see her again. He needs to feel her hands on his body and the little noises she makes while she is high on passion, in his ears. But…is she even thinking of him? Wishing for him? Longing for him…like he is for her?

THE BEST THING ABOUT MARK AND PASSION'S STORY: The lyricism of the sex scenes. Incredible.

The only heart that beat was the one between her legs. Beating so hard, so fast – shaking her with violent jolts of wracking pleasure. Her eyes rolled back, and with a weak, keening cry, warm wetness gushed out of her in a torrential wash of cum and tears.

The reason for the (-0,5) stars: A sex scene where the cervix of the woman EXPANDS and lets the penis almost get inside the UTERUS, “with a little pop sound”. Dude. That's IMPOSSIBLE. Trust me, I'm a medical student. You guys should have seen my WTF-face while reading that particular scene. Ridiculous...

OVERALL: Eda totally recommends it.

5 stars – Historical/Erotic Romance

The Good, the Bad and the Icky:

Okay, I have to be honest and admit that early on in this, I was wondering if I was reading the same book that earned so may five star rave reviews because the explicit language and crude dialogue during the sex scenes, although certainly (verrry) hot, made me cringe and snicker at the same time. Really, it’s sort of how I imagine it would be if Lora Leigh ever decided to write a historical romance. I mean don’t get me wrong, all my GR friends know that I love my romance on the smutastic side and with dirty talk just as much as the next naughty gal, but I guess I just wasn’t expecting such graphic content in a mass paperback historical romance, so it initially took me by surprise.

The Bad and the Icky:

*****Warning, some dirty words, smutty (intermittent) phrases, and possible giggles to follow.*****

Cods = balls (Ick! That’s a new one! Sounds like a fish!)
Prick
Door of her womb
Weeping womb
Weeping cock
(Weeping woman too ‘cause I swear, Passion cries constantly in this book!)
Spunk
Sac
“Look, it’s crying to be inside you.” “Is your cunt crying, too?”
“Tell me.” “Is your cunt weeping for my cock?” “Yes!”
“This is what you need.” “You need to be fucked.” “And fucked.” “Yes!”

(Mark loves to use the F word by the way.)
“Take all of me. Open for me. Open!”
“That’s it.” “Open! I have more to give you.”

(Why, is she expecting a furniture delivery? Nope, oh wait, that’s just his massive 10 ½ inch cock!)
“Tell me your name.” “Why?” “Because,” he said quietly, “I like to put a name to the women I fuck.” (Niiiice!)
“Is your cunt clenching hungrily, even now?”
“Look at me, standing here with my prick out – so full of spunk that it’s spilling out on its own.”

Come was spilling from his prick. The knob was dark purple and distended. Fuck! He crammed it against the slippery mouth of her quim and shoved. Mark gasped out loud as he slammed the tender head of his cock against the door of Passion’s womb. He could feel sperm, still trickling out of him, as he thrust again, harder. Harder!
His whole shaft throbbed, and come kept boiling up from his sac and spilling out of him in a slow, constant stream.
“Passion, your cunt is sucking my prick like a hungry little mouth.” “It feels like a plea for more. Is it?” “I have more to give you. Tell me you want it.”
“I want all of it. I want to be filled with it. If I could offer my whole body as a sheath for your cock, I would do it.”
“Open for me. Open! That’s it. Open! Let me inside you.”
“If I wanted, I could bury my whole cock in you right now. My prick is so bloody hard, and I have the strength to do it.”
“I think I filled you to overflowing. When I pull out, it’s going to spill.”
“I’ve got to move, Passion. I’ve got to fuck.”

(There are a lot of lewd expressions and scenes like these, but I think you probably get the picture.)

The Good:

But just when I was thinking, “WTF?! Is everyone crazy? Why is this book so well-loved and highly rated?”, I started to feel a real connection between Mark and Passion and found myself completely absorbed in the story. And after adjusting to the raw, somewhat raunchy, shocking eroticism, I was engrossed in their intense, impassioned relationship and moved by their mutual longing and sacrifice. It’s a beautiful, touching, stirring love story that made me cry and totally won me over, and that’s why I still gave it a high rating (despite the icktastic parts)!

"He had given her a gift - a gift she had longed for. Rapture instead of restraint. Desire instead of disinterest. Freedom and fulfillment instead of duty and obligation...

I was waffling between three and four stars but as sat here writing this review and reading back over my highlights, I realized that I liked it enough for four stars despite a few complaints.

I tend to really love erotic historical romances because they tend to have fairly original plotlines and let's face it...those lascivious, sex-on-the-brain men who ultimately fall in love with the object of their obsession...that's hot.
~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`

What held me back from loving this was a couple of particular points:

1. It was stuffed FULL of romance tropes and cheesy lines.
It's hard to stay away from common themes in this genre so I tend to give it a pass. But the cheese factor was a little off the charts. Melodrama was not created only recently for the New Adult genre. No, it's been around awhile.

2. While the sex was initially pretty hot, it quickly became somewhat routine and erm....let's just say extremely implausible.
** A ten and a half inch cock...that's impressive! However, I'm here to tell you from a medical standpoint...that shit isn't going to fit ANYWHERE inside a woman's body. I don't care how many "pockets of flesh" you penetrate. Not to mention the fact that so much of the sex was dedicated to Mark's "cramming" it in there and working his way into her...what, cervix? Nothing goes into the cervix. It's hard enough for something to come out.
~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`

All of that being said, the rest of the book was marvelous. I adore how these two met, and yes, the sex happens within the first few pages but holy wow, was it explosive and titillating!

They meet at the Crystal Palace, inadvertently touch when Mark pulls Passion away from a falling plant, and that was the beginning of the end. Passion had endured a loveless, passionless marriage, and when her husband died and left her a widow, the only mourning she did was by changing the color of her dress.

But this one innocent touch instantly lights her up, and Mark takes notice.

I LOVED how he first walks away, and then does that epic pause, as if arguing with himself, before turning back and pursuing what he wants. Talk about a turning point...

Their meeting was amazing... super sensual, intensely passionate.

The blackmailing incident made me want to rage, and although it was an obvious plot device, it really did a great job of introducing Mark's brother and giving us a great insight into his childhood...he is very much the older, more responsible aristocrat.
~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`~`*`

A few favorite quotes, some that won't make sense unless you read the book:
** "Let me love you forever. Let me love you until we are frail and old. And then let me love you in heaven. For my love for you shall never cease."

** "I think my cock is in love with you."

** Some men lose their desire for their wives the moment they step out of church," he said softly. "It has nothing to do with the wife; it's merely that a wife is too available, too permitted. Their zeal is for all the women they can't have."

** "Tell me something..." (epic swoon!!)

** "I would love a cup of hot chocolate."

5+ Stars

To me, Passion felt like two completely different books.

For the first 10o pages or so, I found myself caught up in the incredibly vivid and passionate secret love affair between Passion Dare (the heroine's name is beyond silly, but I got used to it) and the intense Mark Randolph Hawkmore.

Literally from the first sentence of this novel, the sexual chemistry and heat generated by these two characters is enough to render a person speechless. Okay, it rendered *me* speechless at least. There is a lot of sex in this book, especially early on. And, as it has been brought up by nearly everyone writing a review for this book, the sex scenes are incredibly vivid and detailed, and they along with the language may bother some readers. This is most definitely an historical erotica novel, with a BIG emphasis on the erotica part.

And while I was thoroughly enjoying the passion and naughtiness of this story, something happened round about 200 pages in. This book became less about blistering sex scenes, and much more about the intense, bone-deep love that the two characters felt for each other. The last third of this book broke my heart, and literally reduced me to a weepy mess.

Now that I have read Passion I see why it means so much to so many people. If you take the time to look past the vivid sensuality of the early parts of this book, you will find one of the most beautiful and deeply moving love stories I have ever read. I hope more people will open themselves up to this reading experience, because I'm so glad I did and this will definitely be a story I will never forget.

Two idiots too stupid to be believed bump into each other at a museum and decide to bone right there in the middle of the afternoon. The next 175 pages are the absolute worst sex you’ve ever read in your life including but not limited to anatomical impossibilities that would be extremely, tremendously painful if they actually occurred. The second half of the book is supposed to be the tragic plot but it’s really just them not talking to their respective best friends about stuff and crying nonstop. I understand, to a point, why people love this book — truly insane historical romance is a thing of beauty — and with respect to them, I thought this was awful and I hated it. If I never have to read about Mark and his sperm-laden balls again, I’ll die happy.

Well, I guess historical erotica really isn't for me :(
This was HOT, really hot, but also really really crude, the language and everything, I have no problem with that in contemporaries, but while reading this it just sounded WRONG. But this is my brain's problem. For all erotica lovers, even those who are not into historicals, you will love this one for sure!!

He bent his blue gaze upon her. "Your body ought to be pressed upon mine."
Passion's mouth went dry. Her insidwent liquid. "Excuse me," she whispered, backing away.
"No," he said casually. "I do not excuse you."

OH SHIT

after the first 10 pages of this book I was

NOT EXPECTING THAT!

I LOVED this. the cheese, the smut, the plot, even the bad smut that made me cringe lol

So here's my take on the book

It was not exceptionally good, the plot was mediocre and formulaic. The sex scenes were a little weird. e.g. 10 1/2 inch penis. yeah, did not need that in my life lmao. But what I loved, was Passion and Mark's romance with one another. I honestly hated that I loved Mark because there was not much to love about him. Alas, not even his 10.5 inch penis. :(

He was dark and rude and blunt, his sex kind of scary rather than hot, but I loved it. I don't know why lol I think something is wrong with me. He was not a romantic. He was crude and impatient and everything I don't look for in a man, but I loved him

because I'm trash and a horny horndog

Now Passion, was a really wonderful character. She was so nice! I love nice people and she was just so kind I just wanted to be her friend and we could both just have conversations about how horny we are for men like Mark. I loved that she was unapologetic in her ehhem... biblical needs?

I must say this sex was a new experience for me. The errr 10.5 inch peepee had me

And I really think this author needs a female reproduction 101 because... well...

"He could still feel the tight nub of her cervix, but now it was below, rubbing the thick, distended passage that brought his spunk. The pulsing head of his cock was in a deep pocket of flesh above her womb."

I was not aware I had a secret pocket inside my vagina where my cervix??? Could receive the ultimate pleasure from penis???

It got to the point where I was confused because I was like, is the cervix I'm thinking of the same cervix she's thinking of?? Because I don't think her cervix is existent... lmao PLEASE DO YOUR HUMAN SEXUAL ANATOMY RESEARCH BEFORE YOU WRITE AN EROTICA ABOUT IT

Ok now back to the plot,

The reason I gave this 5 stars was because I left this book with a smile on my face. Their romance and love for each other was never in question. Mark had issues, rightfully so, and I totally understood his character, given the circumstances. Honestly, even though it was cheesy, it was the good kind of cheese. The beautiful kind of cheese.

My kind of cheese

"Once, long ago, I begged for love. I swore I would never do it again. But I'm begging you now, Passion. Please, love me." Her hands slipped through his hair, and he pressed his face against her. "Please. For, I love you. I love you with all that I am and all that I will ever be. I love you in this life and the next. I love you. I love you."

Sigh. So sweet, So passionate

Eyy follow my reviews if you liked this one!!! :) Please friend me too! I love making friends

Passion continued to stare. Her words came before she thought to hold them back. “Your profile ought to be pressed upon a coin.” He bent his blue gaze upon her. “Your body ought to be pressed upon mine.”

The story: Really good, filled with angst and intense feelings and a wonderful destined-to-be-together vibe despite all of the seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their way. Two main characters that I really liked, a soulmate connection, raw, angsty true love, and a couple of very nasty villains.

The sex, Part One: The lengthy opening scene of the book, where Mark and Passion cross paths at the crowded Crystal Palace and have smokin hot, dirty, intense, anonymous stranger sex, was simply ah-mazing! Pure erotic fire. Don’t miss this first chapter! For me, it was unforgettable. It was sweaty and sensual and soul-stirring. Also, the H wields a massive 10 ½ inch monster between his legs, and the way it’s described had me in awe. And…he knows how to use it.

“I have what you need,” he said, his voice rough and urgent. His broad-shouldered frame blocked them from view as his hand slid to her breast. “And you have what I need.” Yes.” The word had barely passed her lips when, with one quick glance over his shoulder, he pushed her behind the huge screen. His voice came low and quiet. “If you want to say no, say it now.” He shook his head. “Not two minutes from now, not five minutes from now.” With one hand, he slowly pulled free the ribbons of her bonnet. “Now, or not at all.”

This man, this day, these circumstances would never happen again. He was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Could she walk away? Everything she was made of—blood, bone, heart, and soul—begged her to stay. She could do nothing else.

But then… the sex, Part Two: It morphed into squicky and kinda weird. Mark has never had a woman who was able to take every inch of him inside her, and he becomes obsessed with the idea that with Passion, he can pull it off. It seemed he equated a woman taking all of him = the holy grail of a lover and he was determined to Make. It. Fit. (I’m sorry, I just don’t want 10.5 inches literally battering my cervix, ouch).

Squick aside, I really liked the story so four stars.

“Are you coming?” “In a moment,” Matt replied, his eyes still trained on the sisters. Mark paused. “There’s something about them, isn’t there?” His brother nodded, and a frown creased his brow. “Yes. What is it?” Mark looked at Passion in the care of her sisters. “It’s the lingering touch. It says, ‘You are my first and only concern.’ It whispers, ‘I am in no hurry to leave you, and I shall stay with you for as long as you need.’“ “Yes,” Matt murmured. “That’s it.” “It makes you want to feel it, to experience it.” Matt looked at him. “Yes.” Mark nodded. “I have. It’s the finest thing in the world.”

Well. I don't even know what to say about this book. I spent all night thinking about what my review would be. I tossed and turned. How odd is that? I gave it 3 stars but I could have given it 1 or I could have given it 5. I just don't know how to rate a book that had parts that I really disliked and parts that I really liked. I guess a 3 star rating is fair for a book that brought out such emotions on both sides of the spectrum.

The best way I know how to do this is list out all my likes and dislikes. Maybe that will give a hint of the plot enough for someone who wants to know if they should read it?

Likes:
1. Valdez has a beautiful way with words. She can write the hell out of a sex scene. So descriptive.
2. The emotions this books brings forth. I felt their pain. I was very angry for Mark and the sacrifice he was making. I hated his mom and Abigail. I felt for Charlotte who turned out to be a great character. And Passion, her way of seizing what she wanted, if only for a short time, was admirable.
3. Very good plot. Sometimes I wanted to brush away the sex just to get back to the plot. That is kind of rare for me.
4. Patience, Primrose and Matt. What interesting stories they will have.

Dislikes:
1. The word quim. Negative Ghostrider. Make it stop.
2. All the crying. I don't think I have even cried that much in my life. And for Mark to cry so much kind of bugged me. Put on your big boy briefs, buddy. Suck it up.
3. The use of exclamation points. When I read a sentence with an exclamation point it sounds very dramatic, in my head. This story had a ton of them. So there was always overacting and extra emotion. It seemed a tad overdone.
4. The epilogue. Come on, folks. I have nursed 2 kids for a decent amount of time and NEVER EVER did I consider doing THAT during the actual nursing of my kid. Gross and ew. No, thank you. Two compeletely separate acts in my head. Total turnoff.

Let me preface this by saying, WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK IS THIS BOOK DOING TO MEE!?

I have never read a historical romance bordering so much on erotica before. There's a difference between smutty historical romane and an erotica historical romance... and ohmygod, how I am all in for this!

First chapter in, I was left gobsmacked and hot and bothered. Mind you, the chemistry between these two people were off the charts!

His hand tightened in her hair. “I need to be a part of you. Tell me you’ll let me. Tell me you won’t say hold.” Every muscle in his body wanted to drive into her. “Because once I start fucking you, I swear to God, I’m not stopping.”

Not only it was crazy hot, it also packed that emotional punch right to your heart (and vagina in some scenes 😉). I haven't feel that heart-broken ever since I read that end scene in Dreaming of You. You felt the hopelessness of these characters and damn if I didn't shed an ugly cry when it happened. What is it about star-crossed lovers that always destroyed me.

"And what of my suffering? Suffering, in the face of which, you expect me to be noble and honorable. Suffering I’m supposed to bear over a lifetime with equanimity and grace. I’m not the bloody Savior, Passion. I’m a man. And I will not crucify myself on the altar of your morality!”

“Once, long ago, I begged for love. I swore I would never do it again. But I’m begging you now, Passion. Please, love me.”

Sigh... I think I just found my next bingeable author.

“Evet, nedir o?”
Mark, Passion’a baktı. “Uzayan dokunuş. Diyor ki, ‘Sen benim ilk ve tek alakamsın.’ Şöyle fısıldıyor: ‘Senden ayrılmaya hiç acelem yok ve istediğin kadar seninle kalabilirim.”
“Evet,” diye mırıldandı Matt. “Aynen öyle.”
“İnsan o dokunuşu hissetmek, yaşamak istiyor.”
“Evet.”
Mark başını yukarı aşağı salladı. “Ben yaşadım. Dünyanın en güzel şeyi.”

Sad this author doesn't seem to be writing anymore.
Because she has some real talent for sensually erotic HRs. And a flair for drama - bit cheesy at times but still some really good stuff here.

Their meet-cute is really a shag-behind-a-screen in a public place.
Protagonists - Complete strangers.
Venue - The Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851.
Some seriously hot stuff.
But TBH, not being a fan of smut in itself, the sex overload had me skimming here and there, and there were a few eyeroll-worthy moments. But, in the second half, some overblown drama and angst take over. But at least, the sex takes a backseat.

Before i read this book all i heard was how everyone had such a difficult time with one particular word "cervix"
I wasn't to eager to read it after hearing a few bad things however im so glad i did.. you no when you find one of those books that touch and ruffle every emotion in you, where you are left breathless and heartbroken staring into a blank wall thinking
******"ow my god i cant take this heartache anymore" *********
well this is one of those books .. one of those truly magical emotional heartbreaking books that stick with you for days after you have turned the final page.
The hero Mark is not introduced a in a very appropriate fashion.. he is thrown at the reader in the most sexual, desierable and sensual way..
you almost lust after Mark instantly and wish he were real, he is one sexy alph male that knows exactly what he wants and when he wants it.. and he takes it .. he takes it all he takes your body your mind and your heart then tear's it into a thousand pieces.
Passion the heroine is a women that you simply can not love .. she is giving and caring thoughtful and true to herself..
Passion and Mark together are a symbol of the word LOVE .. they fit together as one ....perfect soul mates.. the love between them is something that you simply must share and experience if i could give this book 10 starts i would it was nothing short of BRILLIANT!

IMHO -More pornographic than romance.

While there is a decent story here, it was almost completely buried in the graphic sex. The language was far too crude for me to enjoy with the female genitalia constantly referred to by the much reviled C word and every encounter referrd to as F***ing. Erotic yes. Romantic- NOT.

There was also much made of his "huge" instrument and it seemed almost pathetic to me how he could only fall in love with a woman who could take "all of him". The ensuing sexual encounters were portrayed almost violently. While I don't mean rape, as she was perfectly willing, he was so forceful that she could have easily been injured. The relationship was not on equal footing and I felt it was mostly demeaning to the heroine who at one time expresses the wish that her entire body could be one big sheath for his 10 1/2 inches.

I have nothing against explicit sex but I prefer it to develop along with the relationship, not vice versa. And a bit of dirty talk can make things really hot at the right moment but this was just too much. Definitely not my cuppa.

Extremely extremely ridiculous. And that's why I'm giving it 4 stars. As I was reading this, I kept wondering how the sexual acts described for anatomically possible and it led me to more thoroughly research uteri. I was already read up on the various pelvis shapes, you know, for identification of corpses/skeletons, but I learned so many new things about uteri positions due to this book. Anyway. This book is ridiculous, but it made me laugh and I've not read anything like it before, hence it receives more stars just for being original. Or at least original to me.

Oddly, this is book is all about the smut, smut, and MORE smut during the first half and then it's really romantic. You'll feel like you're reading two different books because after the first half of the book and drama occurs, it's all about the feels and romance.

Just a warning to the wise, the next book, Patience, it sucks horribly. I hated it beyond hate.

REVIEW
Score: 4.5/5
POV: Dual
Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tropes: Soulmate; Forbidden Love;

I just have big ole heart eyes right now. So many beautiful words written in this book. Potential MIL to Mark & Passions potential MIL both would 1000% be found in on subreddit r/MILfromHell.
This book also had that perfect spinster aunt trope. Love a good quirky spinster aunt in my HR.
Also hoping that a Charlotte and John book has been written 👀👀.
One super weird thing in this book was the like penis/cervix thing. I’m sorry but a big ole penis penetrating your cervix is NEVER a good time. So that was kinda weird but maybe pain in that area was like her kink? Idk but regardless I would still totally reread this book!

After skimming through the other reviews it amazes me that nearly everyone has a different view on this book, myself included. While most people had a problem with the first part of the book , I didn't my gripe was with the second half.

I found that this book was in 2 halves lust and love, the first half was the 2 strangers drawn together only by lust and sex. The sex scenes are plenty and though the sex acts ,positions etc are what you read in most Hist/Rom (most books have oral sex etc) the differance here is the graphic blunt wording. LV throws in enough f%^k's, c&*ks and c$#ts etc to make you gasp. LV isn't just writing a loving sex scene she is writing about dirty sex. Afterall its about 2 people who want just anonymous raw sex without emotions, even though the descriptive dialogue can be OTT and repetitive at times it fits into the story.

Then it changes for the second half of the book when the lust turns to love and the dirty sex scenes fade somewhat and it fitted perfectly with the story. I was wrapped up in Mark and Passion's story and so wanted them to have a HEA. LV ends the book honestly with not everyone being winners and I loved that. The cervix thing annoyed me would he know of a womans inners?, the man was an earl not a doctor. I think Mark got a bit too soft and weepy at the end and lost a bit of his edge and I wanted to yell at him. I was a bit annoyed that Passion was going to sacrifice everything for her cousin. If she loved her cousin that much why would she put her in a loveless marriage (like she had) to a man she knew loved her? A man she loved in return and was pregnant to? Didn't get that. I thought the entire story gelled together well and the lust part of the story didn't bother me. Scenes Kind of reminded me of Eloisa James duchess series. Because it is a great debut and I was gripped to see how it would all end I gave it 4*.

I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to finish this book. It was good, more than good, actually. But life got in the way and I got so busy that I simply had to put it down for almost two weeks. That aside, I have to say that I really, really liked it. Historical romances are so interesting to me, because yes, two people are falling in love but I’m also reading about things and ways and places that don’t exist anymore.

This particular historical romance caught my attention because it’s erotic, but more than that, it has characters that are real and raw and have a past. These people were not perfect and they were doing the best they could with their situations.

I simply loved Passion and the way she cared almost too much about her family and friends; how she put them first in every situation. It broke my heart seeing her give up what was rightfully hers because she wanted to make other people happy.

And Mark, my poor baby Mark. He was such a complex character. Sometimes I hated the way he treated certain people but I just couldn’t hate him because I knew everything he had gone through, everything he had to let go and overcome in order to be with Passion.

I just loved this story and these characters. Would definitely recommend. Even if you’re not into historical romances, give it a try. Simply put: Mark and Passion made me believe in love.

Ooohhh I finished tis late last night and went to sleep a very happy woman, but wondering how I could possibly write a review that conveys adequately exactly how this book made me feel. I've gone over all my emotions and feel what you end up reading here may seem, well,...... oh make your own minds up:)

Mark and Passion and their story is wonderful, full of lust, and love, whispered and declared in hushed tones whilst the world goes on around them unknowing. Their lust and love is never cheap or tawdry never arrogant or brash. They are (for me) a perfect couple and despite a terrible wrong~doing they remain at all times all of things above and more. There are never any TSTL moments, no words shouted in anger at one another, that could cut deep and wound, there is just a deep feeling of compassion and passion from both of them. Mark never flaunts his reputation to Passion but we know he has one, he is a dangerous man (sexually) who takes what he wants when he needs it and Passion is a heroine, who, manages to retain an aura of elegance and charm and discreetness whilst being outrageously wanton for Mark when the situation is 'appropriate' in the telling of their story for her to be like that.
This book is deeply moving especially the scenes in the last third of the book which had me pressing my fingertips into my eyes to stop the stinging tears.

So if like a story filled to the brim with lust, and love and passion that also has the ability to make you cry this may be for you.

Well I can honestly say that if it hadn't been for trying to meet the goal of reading all of the AAR top 100, I would still been just as happy not having read this book. I can see why people had such distinct and varied opinions about the book. The first 1/2 read like a bad repetitive erotic historical. The 2nd half felt more true romance and wasn't so bad. I was unaware that a woman's reproductive parts could move like that...sounded completely painful and giggle worthy at times. I just didn't know that big johnsons required that kind of prep work. I was OK with everything until the last page of the book, where LV pumped up the ewwwww factor for me. I am all for cuddling with your hubby during that time, but to take it to the point that they did...really??? Turned me completely off.

DNF

Excuse me while I recover from being scorched…

This was the first romance story that literally made me go, “Hot DAMN!” on the first words of the very first chapter. And then all tingly the rest of the way.

I know a lot of romance buffs are either indifferent to, or even disdainful of, erotica. And they can be justified sometimes—most of the stories in this genre are simply mindless sex, with most bordering on “perverted” liaisons. (Well, what may pass as perversions to some, in any case.) Another reason is that the plot can be more improbable than anything else—circumstances were conceived just a little bit too conveniently for any “romantic” element to exist.

However, for some reason I don’t know what, Passion really hooked me in.

And, in the risk of being called randy, I confess to not being fed up with Mark and Passion’s sex bouts. They really do sizzle without that “icky” or tiring feel. Though I admit the risqué language and the viciousness of the emotion between Mark and his mother kinda surprised me in the first few instances…somehow these paled in comparison to the love story itself between the hero and the heroine.

And I really like the “episode”-like vibe that Valdez churned out in every heading of a new chapter—I was in tenterhooks as to what will happen once the clandestine world of Mark and Passion collides with that of Charlotte’s. And I was most especially thrilled with the growing fervor that Mark had for Passion. I mean, what woman wouldn’t want to be needed like that?

All-in-all, a feel good novel—this lustful story actually has “heart” and real conflict (damn near made me cry, too). Very very satisfying read for me…
