African-American women's lives and relationships are complex and at times, deliciously spicy. So, when two sisters decided to interview over twenty women about relationships, sex, spirituality, and self, the result was a fantastic collection of funny, sassy, and moving vignettes.
From Jackie, who still loves to have sex with her husband of 28 years, to Lady, who is considering the pro's and con's of her extramarital affair, to Ayoka, who recently discovered her own inner spirituality, these women will draw you in to their lives. Their candid interviews offer insightful and intimate portraits of everyday African-American women.
This book had me totally engrossed! I am enjoyed reading the stories of different women who let readers into their lives. These women tell you about their upbringing..love affars..jobs..secrets. .marriages. This book was SOOO good! I felt like I was right there with each woman as they were interviewed by the authors! Loved it!
I absolutely enjoyed reading about the different tales and life experiences from these women. It's really encouraging when you come across another who is going through or has made it through similar life experiences and you can relate. Sister Gumbo was funny, heartfelt and down right good. I would definitely read again!
I identify with every woman featured in some fashion. The candor! It's phenomenal, hysterical, and at times, angering. I am grateful that these women appeared to have achieved prosperity independently. Many of them admitted that they allowed men to pamper them without guilt. (I am agreeing with that belief more as I get older.) I appreciate the recipes ahead of each chapter. I'll prepare each one.
It's a keeper!!
Update: Still in love with this book!!! I will always keep a copy in my home.
