Volleyball has come a long way from the dusty-old YMCA gymnasium of Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA, where the visionary William G. Morgan invented the sport back in 1895. It has seen the start of two centuries and the dawn of a new millennium. Volleyball is now one of the big five international sports, and the FIVB, with its 220 affiliated national federations, is the largest international sporting federation in the world. Volleyball has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last decade. The present game of Volleyball is highly skilful, interesting and demands high level of fitness. Since founding of the FIVB (1947) until its premier as an Olympic sport (1964), modern Volleyball was imprinted with many technical & tactical innovations. Volleyball was introduced in India by Dr. J.H. Grey in 1921. Volleyball was first introduced at the Asian Games in 1958 at Tokyo were India get the Third Position. Men’s volleyball was included as an event in the Olympic Games in 1960. This book may contribute towards promotion of volleyball performance by means of helping coaches and physical trainers to develop sound training program.
