This is a condensed / simplified version of one of William Shakespeare's most famous historical plays. The author explicitly admits that nothing can take the place of the original. I am in full agreement with that. Just can't support the continual "dumbing down" we seem to observe all around us! If young people are going to study this play, just read the original as written by Shakespeare.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
I'm sure the actual Macbeth is very interesting to read, since the story was interesting enough. But this version I read for school is just very... well, "short 'n' simple", as the title said. It's been simplified and cropped to just about 50 pages. And that shows, really. But well, at least the pictures were nice. It's really a book better suited for children I think.
Disclosure-I received my copy thru Goodreads First Reads. I enjoyed this book. As an adult I understand this version is to introduce young people to Shakespeare and hope to encourage them to read the original. It worked on me, now I want to read the "real thing" even though I am pretty sure I read it in high school.
I won this book in a giveaway, which is the only reason I read it. I wanted to see if this book, being a short/condensed version would be understandable for my younger niece. Of course, a majority of the story is left out but I think the author did a great job of shortening the story enough to still obtain the plot and allow younger kids to learn about Shakespeare.
