This small book by Hayford has flashes of brilliance, a number of the 30 small chapters are particularly good.

"Worship changes us into the likeness of the One we worship." Ps 115.8

"Worship: totally giving over our human will to the will of God."

"Bowing before any god declares our values." -- what we give up time, resources, focus for ---- that is what I treasure (idolize?)

"It IS overwhelming to reflect on our sinfulness before a sinless God; but let us recognize with equal impact that through Christ we have been cleansed, enabled through His righteousness to stand before the holy God."

From
Ps 25:14 "The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant."

he comments, "God reveals His covenant to anyone who is willing to believe in His Son, trust Him enough to accept Him, and then has the humility to walk and grow in a reverent, child-like spirit--- always confessing that without Him he or she doesn't know the way at all!"

His appendix on "Suggestions for Daily Devotions" was interesting as well.

The book seemed to drag for me toward the middle and the end --- maybe because I was specifically looking for ways to help me in my own devotions and sometimes it was just a study.

Private devotions and prayer is such a personal thing, of course. Some of the book I did not relate to his personal experience.

Powerful little book. Great questions at the ends of each chapter. Jack Hayford has a gift for provoking a response to the greatness of God.
