After a horrific car accident leaves her barely clinging to life, she wakes from a coma with a renewed sense of gratitude to a world more surreal than she could have imagined, a world which includes Orion Alexander.

Darkly handsome, Orion is cool and confident and has his sights set on her—something she’s never experienced—and she finds herself falling hopelessly in love. But when Orion’s betrayal sends her straight into the arms of his rival, Damien, things go from bad to worse.

Despite Orion’s warnings, Ireland is attracted to Damien. He’s strong and protective, and harbors an intense dislike for Orion, which makes him… perfect.

But Damien is not one to be crossed.

When all the secrets are revealed, will Ireland trust the boy who broke her heart? Or is she doomed to suffer a fate worse than death?

When I read the back of this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. From the cover, I was expecting it to be another book on angels, but I was wrong. I don't want to give anything away, but I thought it was a great twist. I was rooting for Orion (such a cool name by the way) for the entire book. Even after the little incident that made Ireland break up with him, I knew something was fishy. After the revelation was made toward the middle/end of the book, you could see how much Orion was struggling with his feelings for Ireland. I loved all of the moments that the two shared together. I felt the book was extremely well written (especially for a first time author). Ms. Crichton did a wonderful job at making the reader experience everything, and make the writing come alive. I also found very few mistakes in the book. Sure, there were a couple, but not like some I have read recently. Even though this is a stand-alone book, which is a refreshing change from all of the series that I have been reading lately, I wouldn't mind another book. I was so caught up in the world of Orion and Ireland that I would love to read more about them. It is safe to say that I will definitely be reading more by this author, and I would highly recommend it!

Amaranthine is a unique and creative story that will grab readers will its twist on the life and death. Ireland is your typical teen age girl that finds herself living her worth nightmare. After her parents decision to move the family; her entire family are in a horrific car accident that leaves her near death. When life changes in a split Ireland finds herself awakening to a new world. The new kid in town always has it struggles, but it is easier to accept on the arm of the most beautiful person you know. As the story unravels nothing is what it seems, and Ireland will be left to make the hardest decision anyone has ever had to make.

This was an incredible story. With the sixth sense feel that will leave readers questioning everything and everyone in this remarkable story. Crichton is a magnificent author that expertly woven a web of mysteries and secrets that have readers questioning what their own decisions. This is a BookWhisperer Recommended Read!!!

I would give this a 3.5/5. It was very interesting, with a nice concept very similar to Existence, but with some differences in the mythology, and a very swoon-worthy guy. But there were some things that were not explained as well as they could have been. For example, who were Alex and Alicia? Why didnt Mona and Kyle move on together like Orion and Ireland? Why did Ireland's mom and brother know? Why did Luke blame Orion for giving Ireland the choice to be happy? And then of course there was Ireland's poor judgement. Yeah, just let me get into this car with a complete stranger.

But it had so much mystery and suspense, lots of action with a big showdown at the end, a super evil bad guy, and so much romance. Orion was almost heartbreakingly sympathetic. I felt for him so much. He was so damaged and far from perfect with his horrible temper and somewhat unstable emotions, but it just made me feel for him more. He felt so real. Dont get wrong, we all love the out-of-this-world perfect princes and supernatural beings who are drop-dead gorgeous and perfect (you know I am thinking about Ash right now ;), but once in a while a change is nice. Not that Orion wasnt gorgeous. The way he was described, tall, dark, and handsome, with onyx hair and aqua eyes, I pictured him like a young Tom Welling or something. But he was so sweet, and was always saying amazing things to Ireland, and he loved her so much. :P I just wish there had been more sexy time. Haha, anyway, a happy ending and a nice little stand alone novel.

3.5 Stars, I kinda figured some stuff out a bit too early. Orion was a super hot guy and Ireland knows that she is doing everything he wants and knows she is being obsessive. This was a bit annoying, but eh whatevs.

I still enjoyed the concept of the book and thought the writing flowed well. I enjoyed the witty remarks along the way and didn't mind at all the picture I drew up in my head of Orion.

I say if the blurb interests you then I recommend it. It's a pretty well written YA, a little predictable, but worth the read if what you're looking for is something you don't have to think about much and whirl away with some decent characters.

I love love love this book. I added it to my "to-read" shelf a while back and since then forgot what I'd read in its description. So I went into it thinking I was getting a short break from the usual fantasy I've been reading lately. While that isn't what happened, I wasn't at all disappointed. I couldn't put it down. I don't really know how to explain really why this one affected me so much, but it did. Captivating from beginning to end. It is definitely a new favorite and one I'll read again. That doesn't happen often for me.

The first part of the book lays out the groundwork for a wonderful and suspensfull ending. It is full of witty, funny, smart conversations as well as great descriptions. Wonderfully written. Ireland prooves to be a wonderful character that comes alive through her love for Orion...but with an interesting twist that you will never guess (you'll have to read to find out what he is). The end is beautiful and very fulfilling, you won't regret each page you turn. Must read!

Ok. Where to start... This book was so very creative and the characters amazing... I actually stayed up and finished this book because I couldn't put it down. I laughed and I cried. But I was very happy by the way it ended. I love happy endings. Leah Crichton is an amazing writer! Look forwarded to reading more books by this amazing author.

It was an interesting easy read. I liked that it was actually different from the usual YA paranormal fantasy stuff. No angels, vampires, shifters or Fae. Having said that I also found it pretty violent. There were some quite graphic fights that seemed almost filler since the same scenarios seemed to repeat.

For a first novel though it is promisingly original.

This book never leaves my mind even as I close my eyes and doze off into the land of dreams.

The author did a great job in her writing style, narrations, and characters. Especially for those of us who aren't happy with what we're named, ungrateful with our life... Well, this book is going to change your life.

This book taught me how there is nothing like this book in this life. Seriously, that is why you have to read the book. Because when you're ungrateful with life and you die, no hot death angel is going to save you. There's so much you can learn from the story. There is so much tissue you will have to use to wipe your eyes (plus face, if the tears and snots had rolled down).

It's like, if you haven't fallen in love before you die, then fall in love when you're dying. Literally. That's why I've fallen in love with the book before I die. Hope you guys do, too. (That's not a threat, okay?) I'd say this is an amazing story, but this is something beyond words except explained by anything but the book and the author themselves.

My point? Read it and you'll know.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dummmmmmmb.

I wanted to like this book, especially after having read it and understanding the overall story line, however the execution of it all is incomplete.

Overall the storyline is weak, ideas/thoughts are repetitive (within the same page no less!), several spelling errors, etc. An editor needs to go over this book (never heard of Crave Books and couldn't find it online) and help the author to be more concise with her wording and development of the story - as is, it seems to still be in rough draft form.
