A new "cozy mystery" series featuring a woman and her limousine!
In the course of one week Andi McConnell turns sixty, loses her job, breaks up with her boyfriend, and receives an unexpected inheritance from an eccentric rich uncle--a sleek black stretch limousine with bulletproof windows. She knows it's totally impractical--yet the limo has an allure that Andi can hardly resist.
The allure is considerably dampened, however, with the discovery of a dead body in the trunk. So Andi joins forces with a nosy but charming former TV private eye in a bumbling and often hilarious attempt to find the killer.
Fasten your seatbelt! Your Chariot Awaits is a perfect combination of mystery, mishap, and mayhem--with the quirkiest and funniest of chauffers who's set to take you on the ride of a lifetime.
This is the first book of Lorena McCourtney's series featuring female sleuth, Andi McConnell - who inherited a limousine and lost her job the same week that she turned 60. She was sure her uncle had flipped a coin to decide who got what when he died but, in the long run, she finally accepted the limo as her own.
It wasn't long before she decided to establish her own limo service; soon afterward she started receiving clients. However, one such client wasn't what he appeared to be which put Andi in an uncomfortable position. Was he responsible for the murder of her ex-boyfriend, a murder for which she had been accused?
I won't give more away about the story but this book was an enjoyable read. The characters were real and the humorous elements made me double over with laughter on a few occasions. Even so, there was enough suspense to keep me reading into the wee hours of the morning - and kept me coming back for more.
A light-hearted book that was funny at times. Andi is let go from her job, her boyfriend breaks up with her, and she is given a limousine from a great uncle - all in the same day. After her ex is found in the trunk of her new car, she is a prime suspect. She and her friend get together to try to find the real killer. Thankfully the limousine had bullet-roof windows which saved her from the real killers, but also enabled her to solve the case.
pg 79 - I try to open the door, but you have to step through yourself. Though God may give you a good shove, like He did me.
When Adi turned sixty, she experiences many changes in her life. She lost her job. She broke-up with her boyfriend and inherited a black Limousine from an Uncle, she hardly knew. A day after she got her limousine, she finds her former boyfriend dead in the trunk of the limousine. Now she helps to uncover the killer.
I enjoyed this book. This is the first book by this author that I have read or listened too but it won't be my last, in fact I have already downloaded the next book. I like the fact that the main character is older than the normal type of heroine for this genre of story but the author didn't stop there. The choice of job was also a nice Chan of pace and relate worked well for the story. That's not to say the normal teenage drama (in this case a pregnancy) isn't included because it is but it's from the perspective of a friend and what I think will be the love interest is starting from a friendship. You have got to love the sidekicks. Actually all the characters were likeable and I liked the friendship between them, especially when there antics lead to some humours moments. The mystery was good, with a number of suspects and motives, that played out well. I did guess the killer about the same time as Andi. Off to start the next book. Andi thought turning 60 was going to be depressing but then she is let go from her job and her boyfriend breaks up with her. The only good thing to happen is an uncle that she never meet has left her his limousine. Well it was good until her ex is found dead in the trunk, the same man she chased around the garden with a shovel. Rather than feel sorry for herself she decides she has to clear her name by finding the real killer. Aided by a new acquaintance who use to play a detective on tv and a very pregnant teenager tenant, Andi soon discovers the man she was getting ready to marry wasn't the man she thought he was. Can she find the killer and a new job? I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job of bringing the characters to life. Gorgeous Lemo, Strange Love Triangles & Clean Mystery
Parents- PG-PG13 - this is acceptable for preteens and up Language- none Violence- PG13- normal to genre, dead body some gun violence but nothing very graphic Sexual Content- PG- alluded to relationships but no described interactions, flirtation but nothing really to warn of
Really fun cozy mystery with a slightly older main character, Andi just turned sixty was laid off and inherited an awesome long black lemo... But when the body of her ex-boyfriend is found in the trunk her life becomes messy. It's a fun who-done-it cozy mystery with characters that are very likable... in most cases. Definitely recommend for those that like the clean cozy mystery and are maybe looking for a slightly more mature story.
Narrator- (3⭐) Pleasant voice, not the best differentiations, and the speaking speed felt a little slow but better at 1.25x speed.

This was a quick fun cozy mystery weekend read. I appreciate the fact that Ms. McCourtney's heroines are always older women. In this one Andi McConnell has a doozy of a week - getting laid off, getting dumped, and turning 60. Then she receives an odd inheritance from an eccentric uncle that she didn't know, and that's when things really get crazy. I enjoyed the mystery element and didn't know whodunit till the end. I also enjoyed the side story-line with her neighbor and friend Joella. Character development was good in this one as well, though I felt like Andi was a bit shallow and 2 dimensional to begin with. But all in all, a good weekend read. I'd recommend to fans of cozy mystery series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fresh and funny beginning to a new mystery series. The characters were thoroughly relatable, quirky, and fun - the kind of people you really wish were your next-door neighbors so you could be best friends. The mystery was quite puzzling. And I loved the spiritual journey of the main character and how it was spurred on by her sweet, slightly mysterious, and totally lovable best friend/next-door neighbor/daughter figure. I loved that while it was cozy, the book never felt trite or formulaic. The secondary characters weren't flat and there were some good storylines besides the mystery. I am so excited to read more in this series! It is everything I look for in a Christian cozy mystery!
I received a complimentary audiobook from the author.
Really good! I thought this was a very good first in the series. I really like that the characters are like real people that you would meet. The dialogue was natural, and the mystery was good. I will listen to the next in the series to see what happens to the characters. I don't seek out religious mysteries as a rule, but I did really enjoy this one. Melinda Cumming did a great job narrating. There are some repetitions, but it isn't the worst. (This review is for the audiobook)
This is a hysterical book! Plenty of LOL moments, and twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. Andi may be my favorite heroine so far in Lorena McCourtney's books.
Loved this book. Fun and suspense all in a great story. Andi inherits a limousine, and adventure begins. Murder , baby and harrowing escape, along with a beginning romance.
Love-hate this book! A great mystery ... filled with mystery. God a part of the book with a combo of emotions, romance, fun. "I wonder how that's going to turn out?" all through the book!
I have read all of the Ivy Malone and Ivy and Mac books by Ms. McCourtney, so I was not sure if I would like the switch! But Andi McConnell is a smart engaging character, as is her new friend Fitz. This author creates great characters with depth. This first book was well paced and interesting. I am getting ready to read book 2 and looking forward to it!
I like this almost 60-year old Andi character. Andi inherits a limousine from a wealthy uncle the same week she loses her job and her boyfriend leaves her when he gets promoted and finds an email female interest.
Andi's b'day is here which isn't in her thoughts until she's reminded by her neighbor and friend, Joella. After all, Andi wakes up to a dog barking. She goes out to check on something and it goes down hill from there.
There's nosy neighbor Tom and his binoculars which he aims at all the neighborhood goings-on. He has his own theories and is driving Andi mad cos his nose and 'noculars are pointed straight at her home.
There's a warning here -- a real concern. Concerns about stolen identities and how fraudulent emails and phone calls might appear legit and ask the receiver to verify certain information. However, they are scams. Don't give out personal information.
You know? I can't think of anything negative to say about this book. The characters were lovable -- well, those that could be such as Andi, Fitz, and Jo. The story worked and it was fun!
This is a Christian based cozy romance mystery that my Mom gave me to read. I really didn't like the main character, Andi McConnell, who just turned 60, lost her job and boyfriend and inherits a limousine from an eccentric rich uncle. She then becomes a suspect when a dead body is found in the limousine's trunk. Now she is going to attempt to find the killer with the help of a new acquaintance and former television P.I. actor. It sounds like a funny story but I just couldn't believe in Andi as a 60 year old senior.
Andi loses her job and her boyfriend on the same day, the week of her sixtieth birthday. But something good, if strange, also happens--she inherits a limousine from an unknown, eccentric uncle. Then she finds her ex-boyfriend's body in the trunk of the limo, making her the leading suspect in his death. Helped by her pregnant, Christian tenant and a new friend who once played a detective on television, Andi sets out to clear her name and reclaim her limo from the police.
Cozy mysteries are usually not my favorite genre to read, but this was charming and entertaining. The protagonist is turning 60, and amidst an already lousy day, discovers (with a couple of officers) the dead body of her ex-boyfriend/ex-coworker in the trunk of her newly inherited limousine.
The characters are fun to follow as they work their way to figuring out who and why Jerry was murdered.
I didn't dislike the Ivy Malone series, (I even liked it, actually) but for some reason, I enjoyed this one a lot more. The only reason I figured out "who dunnit" was because it was the only person we were introduced to that seemed to have no connection to the murder and I still had no idea why, until it was revealed. And I have the rest of the series and went right on to start the second book, which is always a good sign.
Lorena McCourtney has delivered a delightful mystery with 60 year old Andi McConnell and her former TV private eye friend Fitz. With mystery, mishap, and mayhem Andi and Fitz try to solve the death of her former boyfriend who is found dead in the trunk of the limo left to Andi by her Uncle Ned. I look forward to reading more of Lorena's madcap mysteries!
Andi McConnell inherits a limo from an eccentric relative. She's just beginning to enjoy it when she finds a body in the trunk. Why did he die and why was he put in her trunk? The book is entertaining, but the mystery drags slightly at times.
I read Lorena McCourtney's books as pure escapism, and they serve well. Nobody would ever consider them great literature but that's not their aim. And yes, thrre are always highly improbable situations involved. But there is always humor, morality, a dash of danger, and just good fun. Reading one always makes me want to read another.
i loved the author's other series and was really looking forward to this new book, but andie mcconnell is no ivy malone. i was disappointed with this book. if i hadn't read the other series first...maybe i would have liked it more.
Lorena McCourtney is a consummate cozy writer. She has all the elements in perfect order in this cute mystery. Love the word pictures that her descriptions bring to mind and love the funky characters, too.
Refreshing to have a 60's something as the main character of a murder mystery.. and not be the dead body! It was pleasant to dive into the author's clever writing style. I'll look for more by Ms. McCourtney. Hmmmmm....I wonder how old SHE is???
