Katherine MacLeod's mysterious gift for intuiting the past once again plays a significant role in her life, and the life of a new friend. The West Michigan frontier is the setting for a story involving the Underground Railroad and the early settlers of the lumbering era. A young couple must face choices of humanity, survival, and freedom. Their dilemma brings both drama and a deepening relationship.
I was given this book to read and review, and now understand that it is part of a series. This book generated enough interest on my part to investigate this series further. It is a cozy, historical fiction account of a woman, living in the current times, who has the ability to receive messages/travel through time as an observer, to learn information that will help someone in the present time. The main protagonist is Katherine, who has retired to The Cloud Cottage, a cozy retreat in northern Western Michigan. She has great faith, two great dogs, and supportive family members who through conversation and actions in the book, present great life lessons and rationale for doing the right thing.
Another wonderful selection from the Katherine MacLeod "Cloud Cottage" series.(#8) - This book diverts it attention for a time from the McLeod cottage & family to the historical fiction recounting of the Underground Railroad in the nearby area. Interesting and thoughtful considerations on the workings of the route and the mental "workings" of the reactions by northerners who had not yet been exposed to the realities of the horrors of slavery. Another recommend and I'm off to attempt to complete the latest (#9)
I enjoyed this book, although the majority of it was a dream the main character has about the underground railroad and not really much of the main character and her family at all in this one.
