Christy is a mystery writer, who finds herself mixed up in a real life mystery when her Aunt Bobbie moves to town and is accused of killing her ex-husband, Eddie Bodine, from Texas based on incriminating evidence. Christy and the 'Red Hats' team together to find the actual killer.

Bobbie gets joy out of restoring used items and ends up opening a second-hand store with Christy working there part-time. Christy becomes faced with same fate of her late Uncle. I was entertained by the twists and enjoyed the book.

Setting: FL around Destin.
Liked: the main character, Christy Castleman,is a Christian as is most of her close family .. but that does not mean that there aren’t heartaches associated with family behaviors.
Her mother, aunt & brother 2 B more specific ….
I was most inspired by her journaling .. especially about praise items.
Singleness. Marriage.
Decent mystery. I did not guess the murderer.
Dislikes: plot was jerky and it was too easy to set the story down.

Not too quaint or complicated, mild on the action but with good pacing, this is a mystery that made for a good beach read. However, i wish it had identified itself as one of those 'christian' centric books. The interjection of the bible and such hit me as close to proselytizing rather than being important to the plot of the story.

This was a good mystery; I happened to find it in my local used bookstore. Will be looking for more by this author.

Summer Breeze is a quiet Florida town where mystery writer Christy Castleman lives in peace and solitude - until her aunt Bobbie Bodine breezes into town and causes a commotion. Bobbie is a lovable but wild divorcee who spends her first few days in Summer Breeze singing at a local blues club and finding ways to bring her 'junk to gems' shop from Memphis to her new hometown.

In the middle of a presentation to the Red Hats Society on how to turn an old post into a beautiful, red-and-purple coat rack, Bobbie is arrested for the murder of her ex-husband, Eddie. Christy can't believe that her lively aunt would do such a thing, and sets her mystery-loving brain to work over who really may have committed the crime.

As Christy unearths many possible suspects she gets caught in the feuds between her mom and Bobbie, as well as trying to revive her love life with ex-boyfriend Dan. A sweet and unassuming heroine, Christy is a pleasant character and the reader will root for her, both to catch Dan and solve the mystery.

I thought the clues that exposed the true murderer were a little too forthcoming, but doubted my suspicions as more and more possibilities piled up. All in all, this is a cozy mystery with fun characters and a romantic overtone. When Bobbie Sang the Blues is the sequel to When the Sandpiper Calls, and I hope many more will follow in this entertaining series!

This was the first book I've read by this author. Apparently this is the second book in this series but you don't have to read the first to enjoy this mystery. It was easy to follow and I enjoyed it cover to cover.

Great story! Mystery, redemption, relationships restored, and new love for middle-aged adults who thought love was in their pasts.
