It's November, and as the island residents prepare for the coming months of cold and snow, they are surprised by God's unexpected lessons of humility, trust, and hope. Authors Lori Copeland and Angela Hunt revisit the Island of Heavenly Daze in the second book of the highly acclaimed series about a small town where angelic intervention is commonplace and the Thanksgiving feast a community affair.
Lori Copeland was born on 12 June 1941. She had a relatively late start in writing, breaking into publishing in 1982 when she was already forty years old. Over the next dozen years, her romance novels achieved much success, as was evidenced by her winning the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, The Holt Medallion, and Walden Books' Best Seller award. She has been inducted into the Missouri Writers Hall of Fame.
Despite her success in more mainstream romantic fiction, in 1995, she decided to switch focus. Her subsequent books have been in the relatively new subgenre of Christian romance. She has also collaborated with authors Angela Elwell Hunt or Virginia Smith on a series of Christian romance novels.
Lori and her husband of over forty years, Lance, live in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by the beautiful Ozarks. They have three grown sons, three daughter-in-laws, and six wonderful grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. She and her husband are very involved in their church, and active in supporting mission work in Mali, West Africa.
Grace in Autumn (Heavenly Daze, #2) by Lori Copeland
Charming book about the year long residents of Heavenly Daze. Mail pours into postmistress Beatrice Coughlin's post office. Non locals have heard there are angel assistants living on the island and people always seem to need help. The local art gallery owned by Charles and Babette Graham needs a new roof but they are tapped out and the non locals do not come to the island during the winter season to buy art. When they sell a piece of art their 5 year old painted for an exorbitant amount to a dealer from the big city they wonder, is he an art prodigy? Will he be able to solve this family's financial problems? Will the islanders see God's hand working to help them with their needs? There are real angels who watch over Heavenly Daze.
A lovely return to the isle of Heavenly Daze. It has been years since I read the first book. Although we have a view of most of the main characters, this one focuses on the Graham family. After a random visitor shows up at the gallery owned by them this man was overwhelmed by a painting of a puffin painting by their 5 year old Georgie. Georgie gave the painting to his mother so she could sell it and fix their leaky roof. But when this man wants to market the “primitive art” sold by Georgie, things quickly get out of hand. A lovely journey This was a bingo challenge for a book with Autumn in the title. Library book
Birdie and Bea are sisters living in Heavenly Daze, Maine. Birdie delivers the mail and Bea owns the Bakery. The setting is right before and during Thanksgiving. There is a saying that Jacques de Cuvier begged the Lord to guard the inhabitants of the tiny island where Heavenly Daze is located. When they start getting Angel letters Birdie and Bea start answering them and the townspeople are not happy about the prospect of problems this could bring to the island. There is a secondary storyline about the Grahams, Charlie, Babette and Georgie around a painting done by Georgie, the son. This book is about family, friends and caring. This is a very good, fast reading book. I liked the characters and was glad Babette and Charlie redeemed themselves. I would read more books by these authors and the series.
I loved reading about all of the characters in this book. You are introduced to the characters in book one. In this second book you get to know the characters, with all of their quirks and imperfections, a little bit more. Angels live among the residents of the island. My favorite chapter in the book is when a couple of the angels go up to heaven and all that Lori describes as the scene in heaven during their time there. Her description is very detailed. It includes a look into what happens when a person dies, from heaven's perspective. There is also plenty of controversy and strife. You will want to read this book. Looking forward to book 3 in the series!
Grace in Autumn came from my church library. It was an unusual story of a close community on an island in Maine. There are problems between neighbors and among one family in particular. There are people there who are really angels but nobody knows except the reader and the author. I liked the love, forgiveness and spirituality but the story-line moved very slowly.
And spend Thanksgiving with our friends in Heavenly Daze. With a little guidance from our Angels, greed will turn into giving, pride into forgiveness and friendship. There will be tears of sadness and tears of joy. Maybe you too will want to help read some of those letters... I'm anxious to see what Christmas will bring in the next book!!!
Enjoyable and uplifting read, that you don't want to end, unless you can move there. This is small isolated town at its best and sometimes worst, due to fear. There are awesome reminders of what good, loving and delightful change can happen when we quit trying to make things happen or worse change people our way.
"Grace in Autumn" by Lorie Copeland and Angela Hunt, is a great Christian fiction book! By the time the book got to the point of describing Heaven, the description left me feeling I was there and feeling with all emotions! The book really needs to be promoted because I had never heard of it before needing a book for autumn or fall!I will highly recommend this book!
Another nice entry into this series about the somewhat quirky residents, including angels living as humans, of Heavenly Daze, a small island off the coast of Maine. Thanksgiving is approaching and some of the residents need a reminder of what that holiday represents. Little Georgie and his family play a major part of this book as they learn just what is most important in life.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and getting to know the characters. Heart warming story. Can't wait to read the rest in the series. Of course, I have always liked Lori Copeland's books.
I am loving this series. This book's reminder about not treasuring things on the earth was definitely God-sent for me at this time. Can't wait to start the next in the series.
The second book in the Heavenly Daze series was almost as enjoyable as the first. Babette and Charles Graham are experiencing money troubles and find the unexpected solution in their five-year old budding artist son. Sin is crouching at the door as Babette realizes they have a moneymaker on their hands.
Meanwhile Birdie, former librarian, and book lover (which makes me partial to this character 😉), and current bakery owner finds herself becoming a bit smitten with the cranky, self-reliant Salt Gribbon and sticks her nose into his business, but does she have it right?
At the same time, mysterious Dear Angel mail starts arriving on the island, and Birdie and her sister Bea decide to be angel assistants and answer a letter. Unfortunately the whole thing becomes more than they bargained for and has the whole town in an uproar.
It was an entertaining read!
Favorite Quote “These people, who benefited daily from the presence of immortal ministers, often found it difficult to believe in the very God who guarded them. They sang about him, prayed to him, and made all sorts of midnight confessions and resolutions, but when it came down to daily reality, few of them were really willing to trust him with the details of their lives.”
This is the second book in the Heavenly Daze series by Lori Copeland and Angela Hunt. For me, this series is sheer entertainment during an excessively busy time in my life. These books are an easy to read saga with a likeable cast of characters. They are not deep or intellectual, but there are some deep concepts portrayed in a straight-forward manner. I especially liked the doctrinal notations at the end because there are so many misconceptions about angels and our focus must always be Jesus Christ, Himself.
I really like books that can teach a moral lesson without being in your face about it. This was OK, but SO in your face about it! :) It was a little too cheesy for me. EXCEPT that I really liked the story itself and thought the authors did a wonderful job of painting a picture of this beautiful little island town with a warm bakery, people dealing with the in's and out's of life, characters with spunk and personality, etc. I just think they could've left the angels out of it! hahaha...
Great book, I laughed so hard I cried. The characters are so likable and "normal". I think what I like most about the book is the fact that I can relate to the character's personalities. Like all Christians, the inhabitants of Heavenly Daze struggle with doing what is spiritually right and avoiding the choices that only feed the flesh. I love the references to biblical quotes and the descriptions are well thought out. The authors detailed description of Heaven is beautiful.
These Heavenly Daze books are sweet. In this one, when the Island patriarch dies, there are some comforting words about death and mourning. They are written from a definite Christian point of view. The residents do have their disagreements, but this is a very tiny community and it would be hard to stay angry with someone when everyone is so interdependent.
Heavenly Daze Book 2 in series. Still waiting to read #1 but each book could stand alone. Reading in order would make some of the character lines a little easier to understand. Angels are among us even if we don't know!! Some of the times an angel has to "step in" so that "we" can see our blessings.
Awesome story and more! How easy it is to see the failings of others and miss our own so completely. This book is bringing some ahah! divine moments. Thank you Lori and Angela, good job!!
Still not LOVING this series, but I am going to continue reading. At least it's an easy read and the scripture references are good to read as I'm plodding along. On to number 3.
