E. J. has built a successful career for herself, but is struggling with an unwanted pregnancy. She runs home to Cullen's Corner with her own intentions, yet in the quiet of her hometown she reconnects with family and God and discovers his plans for her life.
Lori Copeland was born on 12 June 1941. She had a relatively late start in writing, breaking into publishing in 1982 when she was already forty years old. Over the next dozen years, her romance novels achieved much success, as was evidenced by her winning the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, The Holt Medallion, and Walden Books' Best Seller award. She has been inducted into the Missouri Writers Hall of Fame.
Despite her success in more mainstream romantic fiction, in 1995, she decided to switch focus. Her subsequent books have been in the relatively new subgenre of Christian romance. She has also collaborated with authors Angela Elwell Hunt or Virginia Smith on a series of Christian romance novels.
Lori and her husband of over forty years, Lance, live in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by the beautiful Ozarks. They have three grown sons, three daughter-in-laws, and six wonderful grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. She and her husband are very involved in their church, and active in supporting mission work in Mali, West Africa.
A terrific, heartwarming story about a successful business woman who has a secret and needs a 'break' from her busy L.A. life and returns to her rural N.C. hometown. While there, she relearns the value of family, friends and a strong support system. Quick, easy read with strong Christian values.
I gave this book two stars because ultimately, I agree with the conclusion that all children are gifts from God and deserve a chance to make their mark on the world. I really didn't enjoy the book, though. The author made it sound (through the characters) that adoption is a decision that should be avoided at all cost. I believe that where there isn't a mother and a father to care for a child, adoption is often the most loving choice a mother can make. It bothered me the way the issue was discussed and often avoided. The character development seemed haphazard and I had a hard time seeing how much of it could realisticallly happen. I can't recommend it.
Good story about making tough, unselfish choices and the sanctity of life however conceived. I had a hard time with the narrator address the reader witch”you see folks...”. It was awkward and a little demeaning to the reader. Also, EJ got to Cullens Corner when she was 2 months old and in no time she was “big as a house” in her choir gown when she was only a few months pregnant. Normally in a first pregnancy you aren’t really even showing till at least 6 months. Also, the relationship between EJ and Gabe was a bit unrealistic. They went from friends to a romantic relationship but all along there didn’t seem to be any chemistry between them. And she left her big corporate job for about 8 months and there was hardly any explanation on her part to her company... weird However- I am pro-life so I appreciated that part.
I am a Lori Copeland fan because of the humor that is present in her books. Child of Grace is not typical of her books because it is a very emotional book. I listened to the audio book so I'm not sure how the print version addressed it, but I found the second person or narrator's presents unusual.
A beautiful story of growth in maturity and in spirit during an unexpected pregnancy. It is serious matter but there is humor in the story. Truly enjoyed.
"Even the most imperfect beginnings are capable of bringing the greatest joy."
After years of hiding behind a successful career, finds her comfortable world threatened by a tragic event. Facing one of the hardest decisions of her life, heads home to Collin's Corner to sort things out. As the warm arms of the town reach out to embrace her, she finds the courage and strength she needs to make a life-changing decision that will impact her family forever.
Lori Copeland has hit a home run with this love story. I fell in love with Cullen's Corner, with Gabe, and most of all with Eva Jean. She came home to Cullen's Corner when her life fell apart. She's about to discover God's breathtakingly beautiful plan to put it back together. Child of Grace is a brilliant read.
