What a cast of characters! I love how Mrs. Cox weaved in a very broad mix of people, from the highly pious to relatable Christians struggling to do what is right to non-Christians figuring out where to draw the line. Of course, this is Chicago, so she included some unsavory types that none of us would want to meet in a dark alley, but they all blended well into the story, moving it forward with tension and suspense. And, Mrs. Purvis! I'd love to have a cup of tea with her.

Parts of the story are uncomfortable although true even in our modern age. But the author handled them well, sharing just enough to get her point across without diving into the hopelessness of reality. She didn't shy away from some of the ugliness of humanity, but she also reminded readers of the hope those who remain steadfast with Christ have regardless of what others around us choose.

This is an interesting novel with romance, faith, and some mystery. As in the first book in the series, a young woman, Dinah Mayhew, comes to Chicago to work at the 1893 World's Fair and obtains a room at the boarding house of Mrs. Purvis. Dinah has come at the invitation of her father, who she has had little contact with the past ten years after the death of her mother. She is anxious to have a closer relationship with her dad. Mrs. Purvis and Dinah meet a young preacher, Seth Howell when he gives them an invitation to a tent revival. I enjoyed the book.

So excited to read all of the “Fair Series” Book one got me hooked and i was amazed at how the great author really has a knack for drawing you in as she details the history of the era in which the story takes place! Love the romance and young Christian’s love that blossoms between the characters… I was impressed by the action and intrigue in this one and book 3!

Mrs Purvis is a unique character and her quirkiness is well written - you certainly get to know and love her as the book and the rest of the series unfolds! Hope ya’all enjoy this great author as read all 3 in the series!

Another very enjoyable book! It is not a sequel but it is set at the Chicago Worlds Fair in 1896. I loved it when the quirky but lovable owner of the boarding house reappeared in this story as did a policeman from the first book. I learned that D.L. Moody had tent revivals while the world was coming to Chicago during this time. So many good spiritual truths revealed in this book too!

Excellent Read

This second book by Carol Cox about the Chicago World Fair was excellent! Carol weaves spiritual application in a nonthreatening way with romance and suspense. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

She's young. She's beautiful. She's innocent. She's completely unprepared for the streets of lower-end Chicago in 1893.

Dinah Mayhew arrives in the big city, having taken a job within the offices of the World's Fair. She's seeking excitement and the father who disappeared from her life years earlier. Dinah finds all that - and more, in the person of Seth Howell, a handsome and dedicated young minister. To her own surprise, Dinah finds herself involved in Seth's ministry to the lower class of the city, and their relationship soon becomes more than either of them expected.

But then Dinah's obnoxious cousin Gladys arrives in town, and promptly gets involved with a dangerous con man. When she disappears, Seth and Dinah find themselves in the role of reluctant sleuths, attempting to save the girl from death ... or worse.

Carol Cox's Fair Game is a wonderful peek into the inner workings of the historical World's Fair. I came into "A Fair to Remember" one book behind, and found many delightful little nuggets of faith, a generous helping of intrigue, two heart's worth of love - and a novel full of tightly written prose and skillfully woven story line. If Book Two is any indication, I don't want to miss the rest of this series.

This was a cute and simple book. I picked this book up at Salvation Army in Ocean shores to just read something. I didn't know that it was going to be a relgion/suspense book, but it turned out to be a good book.
