Written by specialists in the field of reproductive counseling, this volume will help clinicians to understand and effectively treat the unique needs of clients who have experienced adverse reproductive events, which include infertility, miscarriage, perinatal or newborn loss, and premature or other complicated births. Illustrated with numerous clinical examples, it will help mental health professionals gain both insight and clinical skill in working with this complex and growing clinical population.
I haven't finished this book yet, but at first glance, it is a much needed clinical introduction to the issues of this area. I felt the text lacked information on common couples issues such as disagreement on whether to pursue a family and how this might affect later reproductive trauma. More emphasis could have been paid to the clinical mechanics of treating the regret and anxiety that accompany these issues. Most specifically, detailed attention needed to be paid to how to treat the PTSD symptoms through exposure therapy, etc. in this population. They book could have referred to ESTs that incorporate certain methods and amplified them - if space did not permit.
