The third title in Barrie Summy's tween mystery series!
What's better than a sleepover? A sleepover with makeovers! Sherry and her friends are having an awesome time with eye shadow, glitter, and more hair products than a salon. But when the girls wake up the next morning with serious skin issues, Sherry is freaked. Someone tampered with her makeup!
It turns out that the mall's cosmetics kiosk—where Junie's cousin Amber works—has had lots of products returned by upset customers. Sherry's determined to get to the bottom of things. After all, she's become a bit of a crime-solving celebrity (well, at least in the spirit world). Ghost academies around the world are impressed by Sherry and her ghost mom's skills.
And if anyone can solve a mystery involving mascara, it's Sherry Holmes Baldwin.
Barrie Summy grew up in Canada on a steady diet of books and tobogganing. She tries to read a book a week and always breaks for tea and cookies at three oclock.
Barrie lives in California with her husband, their four children, a veiled chameleon, and Dorothy the Dog.
I really enjoy this series. They are lighthearted and fun, fast reads.

When I was in 4th through 6th grade, I devoured Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, and the Boxcar Children mysteries. I wish I could have read this series, also.
The detective is Sherry, short for Sherlock Holmes Baldwin, who is in middle school. She lives with her father, step-mother (also known as The Ruler), and her little brother, Sam. She has a few good friends, but her BFF is Junie. She also has a hunk of a boyfriend, Josh. That is the normal part of Sherry's life.
The other part of her life is mysterious. She can smell her deceased mother (she smells like coffee) and speak to her, too. Her mother was a Phoenix police officer who died in the line of duty and her grandfather is a bird. She is able to talk to both of them. They help her solve mysteries.
In this installment, Sherry has a slumber party. She does a make-over on three of them. They wake up in the morning with their faces on fire. The overnight cream had something bad in it. Sherry goes back to the Kiosk where she got the cream. Her Bff's cousin works there, and she had gotten the makeup on discount. They find out that there is somebody messing with the makeup. So, Sherry and her friends and family work to solve the mystery.
I really liked this book. The characters are well-developed and the plot is fun. I loved the ghosts in Sherry's life. Her mother and grandfather are funny and lovable. Especially when she hides her grandfather in her purse to do some investigating.
I am going to put this in my library at school and recommend it to all of my girls.
This book was about girl named Sherry who through a slumber party which theme was makeup. At night they put on some night cream which left there face swollen and red. Her cousin work in the place were she got the cream which was Naked Makeup and they realized that some one has been sabotaging all off her products and they were on the hunt to find out who it was. I enjoyed this book because it was a mystery book and these types of books get me thinking "what will happen next".I would recommend this book to some one who like mystery books and books that have an interesting conflict.
I thought that this book has a lesson and this lesson is kids should not be doing their make up. I will recommend this book to people who like mysterys.
"I So Don't Do Makeup" was an amazing book that I highly recommend for teen girls because the novel talks about learning to responsibly deal with your own problems, being in your first relationship, having your first job, peer pressure, as well as family issues.
Didn't get this one cheap, but free! It's not an actual copy, and just an Advanced Reading Copy, but I was fortunate enough to snag one from RandomHouse and review it. I outgrew middle age novels when I was about twelve, but I still like to read them for variety. Here's I So Don't Do Makeup by Barrie Summy:
Blurb: No one messes with Sherry's mascara! A little cherry lip gloss never hurt anybody, right? That's what I thought until my sleepover. My friends went to bed all happy and moisturized...and woke up with serious skin issues! Luckily, I happen to be pretty good at solving mysteries. Because now I'm skin deep in one. Someone's tampering with the makeup at the mall kiosk where Amber works, and she needs my help. I'm kind of a crime-solving celebrity. My mom is a ghost (really!), and together we've worked on some important cases. But I'm tackling this mystery by myself. I'm even going undercover --without makeup-- to solve it. That's right, if I'm going to crack this case, I'll have to say...I so don't do makeup.
I really didn't expect to like this book. Just by looking at the cover, you think that it's "just another chick-lit for preteenage wannabees" and then by reading the title, that thought is confirmed. The protagonist, Sherry, considers herself a sleuth (her name's short for Sherlock). In this book's case, she is playing detective to catch the horrible person who's been tainting the makeup at her favorite mall kiosk. I hadn't realized that this book was third in a series of Sherry's adventures. However, I read it fine without reading the first two books, so it makes a great stand-alone novel.
Most of the plot, as you can expect, was all happy-go-lucky. Sherry, who's thirteen, has a boyfriend, an extensive vocabulary, and an oddly quick thinking process. Yet, she's never worn makeup (before her incidental sleepover), loves glitter, and hates her stepmother. Is she mature, or immature for her age? I'm not quite sure. Also, there was some supernatural elements involved; her mom, who passed away, comes to visit her as a ghost, and Sherry always looks forward to meeting up with her.
The book was very fast-paced and fairly entertaining. I went through it in about three hours. Wasn't anything fancy to particularly stick in my mind (heck, I'm already forgetting some of it...but in my defense, it's been a few months since I've read it), and it definitely was sort of painful to read at times (everything in Sherry's life is so disgustingly perfect, which bothered me a bit). All the events were things that would never happen in real life because life never works that accurately. There were almost no surprises in the story, and when there was the teensiest trouble (the face mask caused rashes!), someone would always come to the rescue immediately (of course her stepmom is a health freak who just has soothing cream in her medicine cabinet. Really?). And obviously, the ghost mother thing. Note to author: if you're going to incorporate a ghost in the story, at least make it meaningful and realistic! Sherry's ghost mom only took away from the action!
All in all, it wasn't bad. But it's not something that'll haunt/affect me for the rest of my life either.
Radical Rating: 7 hearts- A few flaws here and there, but wouldn’t mind rereading. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I do not give one stars out very often, but this is quite possible the worst book I have ever read. It starts out on some ridiculous notion that this makeup has been tampered with and has caused some poor teenage girls skin complications. Before I read any further, I had to ask myself, how in the world did these girls think it was a good idea to slather (and I do mean slather) their faces with unfamiliar product. I mean, sure it's an all natural brand, but those makeups can still cause girls skin to break out. Well whatever. I guess they just didn't think. So now, of course, the contaminated makeup turns out to only be a toe into a "huge" conspiracy, all while every sign points to one girl. All while this mystery is playing out, their is some bizarre thing about the main character contacting her mother in the spiritual world, which she to by, I kid you not, wrapping herself in tin foil and busting through the employees room in a dairy queen (I am starting to think that dairy queen was a euphemism for LSD or something like that). As the search for this makeup ruiner goes on, more and more bad things start to happen, including hair spray that literally makes your hair fall out...You should be asking yourself why they didn't install cameras or a recording device to see who was handling the makeup, and you have every right to be, because it never explains. These girls aren't qualified enough to run a mud pie stand, let alone a makeup counter. So , the story concludes with a totally predictable ending, my very favorite way to wrap up a totally predictable book. I so don't do this book.
Middle school is tough. Especially when someone is savatoging your makeup! I SO DONT DO MAKE-UP is a book about a girl named sherry who is just an average middle school girl...except that her mom is a ghost who works at a detective department. Sherry is having a makeup slumber party with her friends, everything is going fine until they put on their night cream.
When the girls wake up they are all screaming at the way their faces look! All red and gross! They didn't know what was happening until they figured out that it was the night cream they used! They go to the store and ask what's wrong with the cream. Nobody knows. But Sherry is up for the case. She try's to figure out who is savatoging their makeup!
Just one problem, her mom can't help. Sherry is trying her hardest to crack the case. Can she solve the case before it's too late, before they run out of time to save the make up store? Can you Sherry solve this case without her mom? You'll have to find out when you read the book.
This book is about a girl and her ghost mom who solve mysteries and in this book they did a mystery about a mystery product. I liked this book because its about mysteries and I like mysteries. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries.
Sherry, the main character and her friends are having an amazing sleepover. They are having fun with eye shadow, glitter and hair products. But when the girls wake up the next morning with serious skin issues, Sherry is freaked! Someone tampered with her makeup. But who?
About the Book: Sherlock (Sherry) Holmes is on the case again! Someone is out to sabatoge the new makeup kiosk in the mall, Naked Makeup. When Sherry and her friends use the makeup, it burns their skin and now they're saying they so don't do makeup-and Sherry's not going to let that happen! Is it the competing vendor who wants Naked Makeup's prime kiosk space, the Janes, a group of girls who refuse to wear makeup, or Drew, the lovesick co-worker? If anyone can save Naked Makeup, it's Sherry!
GreenBeanTeenQueen Says: This book was just too cute!! I loved that Sherry wasn't perfect (like Nancy Drew) and she was very spunky and fun. She has the perfect tween voice-she's 13, but wishes she was older and I could see the tweens I work with at the library in Sherry. Also, I love that it's a mystery series, as mysteries seem to be really popular with this age group and I can never find enough good ones!
While this is the third in the series, there's plenty of catching up and enough back story that the reader can jump right in and not feel lost. This is great when you don't always have the first of a series on the shelf at the library.
The mystery was pretty easy to figure out, although maybe that's my adult reader coming into play. Because I had the mystery figured out early on, I got frustrated with the author for leading the characters on wild goose chases. It seemed like the book was longer than it needed to be with one too many suspects to investigate and too much going on. Some readers might find this annoying, but many I suppose will laugh along with Sherry's antics. Sherry reminds me a bit of an updated Nancy Drew and she has plenty of spunk and sass that tweens will love her. If you have Nancy Drew fans or readers who have read through the Sammy Keyes series, I would suggest Sherry Holmes as a new tween detective.
I love Barrie Summy's 'I so Don't Do Series.' Wait? Did I forget something...Oh yeah! I love mysteries, Barrie Summy stories, AND makeup!Hm... weird. It just so happens that this book has all of that!
This book was very good, I loved how in the beginning it got straight to the point, at the makeup party that Sherry is holding. This book was so cool because not only was it interesting but I got to learn lots about makeup and tips! Like for instance: If you get cactus prickles in your and, put glue over your hand (liquid), let it dry, then peel it off. Off goes the glue AND the prickles!
This story was very fast, interesting, and light. I liked this book because it had plot-lines that were un-expected at times.
Some parts that I didn't like in the book was, I could guess who the person was that was ruining the make-up. That was a drag because the a whole part of the book was building up to it, but I already knew it was going to be. But that's just me, it could be truly thrilling to other people. I didn't like how they always got the ruined things. It would have been more interesting if the lotion bottle with the prickles, didn't get found, small things like that.
Overall, this was a good book but pretty slow. 4/5
I had to read this book for a project at school. This book starts out with a girl named Sherry (short for Sherlock) Holmes Baldwin. (I know, the names pretty creative right? :P). Sherry decided to have a makeup party. She invites all her friends, even Kim, who is apart of a group called the Plain Janes. The group refuses to use cosmetics. Basically, these girls start applying their makeup which they got from Amber who works at Naked Makeup. When it is time for them to go to bed, Sherry's best friend Junie starts to realize her face is "tingling". The other girls just tell her to shut up and they all go to bed. The next morning, they wake up to find out that they look hideous! Their faces described in the book (and i quote) are "sizzling"! What happened? Someone has been tampering with their makeup! This book was okay, i mean there was some new information learned and all, but the one thing that bothered me was how i kind of already knew who did it. I would read chapter after chapter, and think in my head, "I bet its __________ who did it!" Overall, this book gets a 4/5 stars. If you're in the mood for a light mystery story and don't like Nancy Drew, Sherry Holmes Baldwin is your girl!
4.5 stars Sherry Baldwin is back and solving a new mystery! When Sherry has a makeup sleepover with some of her friends, they wake up in the morning with dry, welting skin, that looks terrible. Sherry got the makeup from a new kiosk at the mall called Naked Makeup. At first, Sherry thinks that it might just be some bad makeup but it turns out that someone is sabotaging the kiosk! Now Sherry is determined to figure out who is trying to hurt Naked Makeup. But when The Academy of Spirits tells her not to. . .will Sherry listen?
I so don't do makeup was a yet another cute, funny story staring Sherry. I like Sherry in this story, but she was just a little annoying and a little childish, it seemed. But otherwise she was pretty good. I like the plot, even though it was a little easy to predict. Some parts were funny though which was good! This was a good read but it just didn't live up to my expectations.
The third in Summy's I So Don't Do series, Sherry Holmes Baldwin must solve the case of the messed up make-up! After Sherry and her friends have a glitz-and-glam sleepover, they wake up with puffy and burning faces. Detective Sherry takes it upon herself to figure out who is tampering with the Naked Makeup at the mall kiosk. With the help of her ghost mother and grandfather, Sherry cracks the case, but not without a few sacrifices along the way...as in going makeup-less for days! This is a fun, contemporary mystery with a smart but stylish main character. I haven't read any of Summy's other books so the whole my-mom-is-a-ghost-detective thing kind of threw me through a loop at the beginning. This is a great read for a modern chic chick.
Sherry Baldwin loves makeup. A lot. She is attempting to get her friends to love it as much as she does, so she invites three of them to a makeover slumber party at her house. Everyone has a great time until the next morning: someone has tampered with the makeup, & everyone's face is a painful, peeling wreck. Of course Sherry has to solve the case - her new friend Lacey's makeup business is on the line. Unfortunately, her ghost mother isn't going to be able to help this time. Sherry's going to have to rely on her own intuition - & her friends. A light, fun read, just like the rest of the series.
I loved this book, to the highest power. I'm starting with makeup, so some of the things it says in the book inspired me. The Janes didn't, because I won't be getting obsessed with it. I WILL get good grades and into a good college. I love how Sherry solved the mystery, and I learned some pretty nice things in this book, like how when you get glochids in your skin you put glue on your hand, and once it dries, you peel it off and it gets all the glochids out, it doesn't even hurt. I loved this book. I rate it 5 stars, and P.S ( YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE WHO THE CRIMINAL IS!!! ) Five stars, ***** . -Signing off, Emma XoXo...
I So Don't Do Makeup is the third book by Barrie Summy in the "I So Don't Do" series, as I like to call it. Sherry Baldwin is the main character in this book, and she has another mystery to solve with her ghost mother. Someone is sabotaging the Naked Makeup kiosk in the mall.. putting acid in the Nite Sprite cream, Hair-B-Gone in the Spray-In-Conditioner, pepper juice in the lip gloss... Ack! Eek! Ike! Can Sherry figure out who is trying to bring the kiosk down?
I would rate this book 4 stars because it wasn't perfect. It was fun, and I liked it, but it wasn't perfect.
I am on the fourth book in the series, and it is awesome. Read it! Yay!

This was a fun and fluffy mystery for tween girls that I think will really appeal to Nancy Drew and other mystery series fans. It was lighthearted and fun to read, giving us a glimpse of a very girly and not afraid to admit it tween. It didn't have a lot of depth to it, but it provides entertainment and was a pretty good read. Full review at One Librarian's Book Reviews.
A perfect book for all mystery/detective book-lovers! This was CERTAINLY one of my favorite mystery and girlie books ever! Basically about a girl who's had a background on detecting..and she finds out her mom's a ghost. Her boyfriend& best friend ( Junie) help her crack the case of the damaged makeup at her favorite local makeup store. Such a thrilling adventure that got me addicted and sort of magnetised! Hahhahahahh, i know that doesn't make sense, but, oh well! :)
"When seventh-grader Sherry Baldwin hosts a makeover sleepover that causes horrible reactions in her friends' skin, she enlists the help of her mother, a ghost detective at the Academy of Spirits, to help solve the mystery of the tainted makeup."
This one is better than the last one. Seemed like it was more a "middle" school book.
Of couse some people might find this book interesting, although I DON'T like mystery books or books that include such things as ghost. It is only that the genre is simply not, "my type". However the author described fine detial and I asume likes mystery books judging from her other book, "I So Don't Do Spooky". I hope you enjoy the book! :)
The book "I so don't do makeup" comes in a series of investigation and adventure books. All focused on mysteries going on around Sherry's neighborhood. This book includes investigating, young love, and makeup! It's great book for girly girls (because there's a lot of makeup terms that probably other girls will have no idea what is)!
Well this book has mystery and a little bit of fun in it. Sherry and her friends are having a sleep over. They are having fun with makeup and other products. They put this stuff on there face Then go to bed. The next morning some thing bad had happened to there face. This book has things that I like so I give it a five star.
Well at some parts I found Sherry very annoying, like when she used described being anemic as a bad thing, which I found insulting since I am in fact anemic. That was about all my negative thoughts on this book, overall it was a quick fun read.
I love Sherry and all of her ghostly adventures. I thought that this series was going to be some kind of horror book. But I guess I should've suspected that it was going to be and LOL book from the cover ;)
Love this book! This is one of my fav. mysteries aside from "i so don't do famous" so amazing! I love all of the twists and turns when a thief steals makeup from a mall kiosk! And remember, EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!
I remember reading a bit of the first book and not continuing on - I honestly don't remember why. Anyway, I picked up this one on a whim and really enjoyed it. I've put the first and second one on hold at the library and will give them another shot.
