This book is an excellent introduction into German grammar. It might not be the best choice as your first textbook of German (neither it's meant to be, in my opinion), but it's excellent if you have at least minimal aquintance with the language and want to make sense of how it works.
The book is well-structured and stripped of anything unessential. The chapters are relatively short, with each discussing a different aspect of German grammar and introducing a bit of vocalbulary on a particular topic. The grammar explanations are clear and concise and well-illustrated by exercises, with the answer key at the end of the book.
Practice makes perfect indeed, and this series are true to their name. This particular book is a bit on the dry side in comparison to some other Practice Makes Perfect books which I read -- some had plenty of humor hidden between the lines. But still, it's good kind of dry -- nothing unessential, all straightforward and useful information; definitely not the head-ache bloody boring kind of dry. And Basic German does strive to add a bit of entertainment by providing short Spaßfakten (fun facts) texts here and there.
I loved that I could read a chapter while having my morning cofee or during my lunch break and then write the practice exercises right in the book (that's why I prefer good old printed books and not ebooks for Practice Makes Perfect texbooks).
