“I have always been a writer, pen to paper or fingertips on a keyboard, it doesn't really matter to me, all I want to do it create. Poetry, music, stories or novels, I want to bring you into my world. Climb the rugged peaks of snowcapped mountains, or tumble and stumble down into the darkness of the valleys where we learn who we are and what we are made of. Rise to the challenges of life, following the twists and turns that force us to make the changes and choices, hopefully creating a great story along the way. It's not always pretty, and the stories don't always go in the direction the readers want, but I will take you on a journey.
I write what I like to read. I get bored easily, so my stories have to keep me interested. I like to create characters who may be bigger than life, but who aren't perfect; characters who haven't always made the best or smartest choices. My life hasn't always been perfect, there have been many ups and down, and it has been anything but normal. So I guess that comes out in my writings. It was an accident at work that brought my life to a complete standstill and I was lost. Several people guided me toward the written word... storytelling, and after a few attempts on the internet under the pseudonym Sinful, I finally created my first novel - Facing Evil. Four years later, I finished my award winning novel - From a Distance.”
CL Hart is an avid outdoors woman, whose is as handy with an axe and a hammer as she is with a pen. Her colorful rainbow of occupations has included; police officer, bus driver, truck driver and singer. She resides outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with her wife and their four-footed family.
Guess who made the mistake of starting this novel at 9:30pm on a school night? Yep. I went into work with dark circles and bags under my eyes. Dead. Sexy. I'm lucky I didn't trip all over the place in my heels while slow-crawling into my office this morning.
For the life of me, I couldn't put this damn book down. Believe me, I tried. I really really really tried.
Not really. I started bargaining with myself after the first half hour:
INNER MONOLOGUE AT 10:00pm "Kindle says i'm 25% done with the novel. I can read another hour, no biggie. That'll give me at least seven hours of sleep tonight."
INNER MONOLOGUE AT 11:30pm "I'm more than halfway. Hey, it's not even midnight. It's not even tomorrow yet! I've survived on less sleep. It'll be fine! Man, I love this book."
INNER MONOLOGUE AT 12:00am "Ok, I'm at 83%. I'm almost done. I can't stop now. Hell no! Mama didn't raise a quitter!"
INNER MONOLOGUE AT 12:30am "I'm done! Wow, amazing. Totally worth it! I'm sure I'll be bright and chipper tomorrow morning. Come on, that's a whole 330 minutes of sleep!"
INNER MONOLOGUE WHEN I WOKE UP AT 6:00am "F...M...L" *Cries*

If you're a fan of books in the crime/mystery/thriller genre, you'll LOVE this book. The excitement (and anxiety) I felt reading this novel is comparable to when I read Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum. The pacing is FAST. CL Hart hardly gives her main characters Kenzie and Cori a breather. Geez... have a little mercy, CL Hart! This reading experience was like running a full marathon without training, stretching, warming up, or even eating. The readers are thrown in the middle of the action right away. And you'll be so engrossed in the story, that you may even forget about blinking.
The story is well-developed and the plot whips you around some pretty interesting turns and corners. The characters in this story are well-developed and complex. I had an affinity for both of the main characters, especially Kenzie. Kenzie's character pulled the heck out of my heart-strings, and I truly cared about how she would turn out in the end. Thankfully, the author didn't disappoint.
Readers can feel the heat of attraction and tension between Cori and Kenzie from the first page. Through trust and love, their relationship becomes a beautiful partnership as they save each other through all the obstacles they face together throughout the story.
Mia Sorvino / The Replacement Killers and Scarlett Johansson / Lucy inspired me to read this book, who can resist a female assassin/sniper? You can.. Well I can't.
The book kicked off pretty good in the beginning, how Kenzie became a sniper turned military assassin agent was written interestingly. The African proverb ' It takes a village to raise a child ' was not applicable to the story, it only took one concerned Judge to turn Kenzie's life around and got her a purpose in life before it was ruined by...
I was happy that Ms.Hart did not turn Cori into a damsel in distress and clung onto Kenzie like a koala on eucalyptus tree. Cori was relatively an equal partner for Kenzie minus the military/weapons aspects.
Some parts dragged but due to - two very explosive scenes that really wowed me, where their first intimate scene took place + what they did, the father/daughter relationship between Kenzie and the Judge, the chemistry between Kenzie and Cori made the 4 stars ratings worthy.
I just wished that Kenzie's ass kicking skill had been in the advanced level. Anyways, if you're looking for a professional assassin story starring female protagonists, do check out Requime For Immortals by Lee Winter.
An action-packed political thriller! With a WLW romance interwoven. On Kindle Unlimited.
I was quite impressed with this one, if you're a fan of films or books like Jack Ryan, where there is conspiracy and mystery, and lots of action surrounding a main protagonist trying to figure out which side they are on and who the players really are, then you may well enjoy this!
Kenzie is a badass secret operative sniper, who learned to follow orders and not question or feel much of anything in her loner life. But after an operation goes bad, she finds herself not trusting the organization she committed her life to. Then when she is given a new target of a beautiful young American woman in Mexico, she can't shake the feeling of wrongness, and being set up. When a backup sniper is sent to take her out, as well, she knows she has to figure out what is going on, and how the young woman Cori, is involved.
It's dramatic and high tension, as Cori is thrust into a world of assassins and being on the run with the gruff Kenzie who is threatening her with a gun, and taking her hostage - while claiming she is actually trying to help save her.
As with these types of storylines there is a fair bit of convenient timing and saves that happen, but it's really no different than any other standard Hollywood blockbuster with how it plays out, so I wasn't particularly put off by it. But it would be helpful for others to know if that is something that could be a deal breaker. Think sort of Bourne Identity, but no amnesia.

I was clearing out some titles from my Want to Read list and decided to do my own version of a Throwback Thursday read. While dated and at times eye-rolling and often predictable this was a fun, action filled political thriller. Black Ops assassin Kenzie is sent to Mexico to kill an American student named Cori. She has a bad feeling about the assignment but following orders has been drilled into her since boot camp.
The tall dark and dangerous Kenzie and the plucky and determined blonde love interest Cori gave this book a Xenaverse fan fiction feel. The story itself reminds me of classic James Bond thrillers with Kenzie and Cori racing one step ahead of danger at all times. Great suspense even if you know these two will find a way to survive the most incredible events pushing reality out the window but who cares? It was a fun ride and I enjoyed the adventure.
What a great book! Exactly what I expected it to be. Fast and thrilling action. A sweet and tender love story. And what a cool character Kenzie turned out to be. Tough as nails but with a good heart. I loved the chemistry between the lead characters. Though I would not have minded if there had been more intimate scenes, but that should not spoil the fun.
A fast-paced thriller. The romance is a little unbelivable but overall a gripping read that I'd suggest even those who aren't usually a fan of thrillers (such as myself) should give a go.
I am completely baffled by the ratings this book has. Obviously I'm missing something here.
After reading Engravings of Wraith and Lethal Affairs I got the feeling the authors were trying to emulate something, and I'm not sure what it is. These books are fairly old, and the only thing I can come up with is they're trying to create a female Jason Bourne. And in my opinion, they all failed miserably.
This one takes the cake though, with non-stop, ridiculously contrived action (I mean, how do you come up with getting stuck on a burning cow trailer on a ferry in the middle of the ocean? Oh, no worries, there's a fishing boat conveniently nearby.) It's all very predictable (I'm sure everyone who read this knew why they are found immediately where ever they go, long before they figure it out themselves, and they need a vet to discover it). And it goes on and on, without any breathing space at all.
Don't get me wrong, I love a butt-kicking heroine capable of raining down death and destruction everywhere. But none of that in this book and the others I mentioned is very realistic.
So, I'm honestly wondering: what am I missing here?
This book is very decent for mystery/thriller genre, packed with constant actions. I give it that. I just wish there were more development of the romance between the two MCs. A solid action plot is fine with me but what I really look for in a FF novel is firstly the romance of which the book did not satisfy me.
Kenzie is a black-ops assassin; growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, her choices as a teen left her picking between jail and the military. Now she is an adult, a crack shot with an appreciation of structure and the importance of orders, with no family or close ties. I.e., she is the ideal tool to mop up after failures of politics. Still, being a government assassin is a rough life, and when a particularly poorly planned mission goes belly-up, she is keen to cut her losses and leave the programme. She is sent on one final mission, to terminate a young woman studying in Mexico; even for her, the doubts grow too serious to ignore. Saving that young target (Cori), the two of them flee back to the United States in order to find the truth, dodging the agents sent to eliminate them along the way.
This book is action-packed and largely well-written; it struggles, however, with pacing. Several times the narrative abruptly halts for a lengthy info-dumps in the form of flashbacks. These most often appear to be a lazy attempt to justify some current choice of action. This is one symptom of a consistent problem, also seen in other transitions between scenes. Sometimes these happened so puzzlingly, or with such significant events happening "off screen", that I sometimes flicked back in the book thinking I had missed a significant chunk of text.
The mystery, by the way, is really a mystery. There are no clues or hints as to what the major conspiracy might be - although the situation is so cliche the reader will probably know the "twist" ending without needing any prompting. There are some attempts to tease some drama out of the situation with abrupt change-of-perspective scenes spread throughout the book, highlighting some villainous communication or potentially dangerous new kill order. Really though, they're not overly well done, and the conspiracy finally ends with the villains simply explaining the plot to the protagonists at the end of the novel.
The book also falls into a trap common to many thrillers, in that Cori is pretty useless - although I would like to emphasize that the author tried really hard in this instance to give her proper character development throughout. There are several times where her quick-thinking saves Kenzie's bacon, (although, again, some of the action was off-scree). I appreciated the drive to create a partnership of equals. Certain minor scenes also embraced the idea that Cori would learn awfully quickly if her life was in serious danger. But essentially Cori was so utterly outmatched by her partner's skill and experience that the author artificially hamstrung Kenzie by giving her a persistent wound - fair enough, but aggravating on many levels.
Honestly, it's pretty good -it was just the technical problems detailed in the first paragraph that dropped it a star. As it is, it gets three.
Even though I’m not really into action books, I think this book was enjoyable. Through all the adversities and trouble the romance blossomed in an interesting and sweet way. The barriers that one of the lead characters (Kenzie) had built around her heart due to the way she had always lived her life succumbed thanks to her growing feelings for the other character (Cory), who I should say was a very lovable one, even though there wasn’t the same attention to her past as much as to the other lead character. Both were strong-minded characters that have a nice chemistry and are vey likable.
In regard to the secondary characters, I think their contributions were important to spice up the story, whether it was to give it a big deal of angst or just sweet moments.
I think this story was well done, and the suspense was intensified especially after the first half of the book which draws you a bit more into it, however I should mention there were some moments I felt quite dispassionate about the story but I’m sure I attribute it to the fact I’ve never been into action thriller stories because normally the romance is quite played down a bit, though I have to say that the moments where the romance takes the lead, the author does a nice job portraying the sparks and vibe between them resulting in a nice and interesting development..
All in all it was a nice book that takes you thru a deranged and dangerous journey with doses of sweet and intense moments. I recommend it for those who enjoy action thriller romance books.
This was a surprisingly good thriller. I read it for free on amazon unlimited. I haven't been impressed by the lesbian fiction I have read so far on unlimited...most of which I haven't been able to finish. This was a good story with a good plot. It starts out a little slow but builds nicely. Definitely worth a read. The editing is really bad....there were literally blanks (__________) with missing words. So if you can' t tolerate essentially non-existent editing...don't bother! I'm torn about the 3 star rating as the writing for me was 4star.....but the SEVERE lack of editing was very distracting....and I don't usually care about that.....so I would have given 3.5!
I did not have high expectations for this story. I was just looking for a mindless escapism book to read after finishing a well crafted literary novel. This book looked like an interesting adventure/thriller story with a bad-ass lesbian. That premise alone is what drew me in.
However, I found myself turning the pages to this story, and was riveted by what was going to happen next.
The story begins by setting up the main protagonist’s background. Not all stories work going this route, but Kenzie’s background wasn’t written in a hum-drum way, and it really was well written as a prelude to who she had become.
I’m not sure of what her motives are though (they aren’t revealed at that point in time,) and even though the intro to Cori is a little rough, I thought there was an instant attraction between the two. A balance, shall I say that allowed them to work well together. This may have been a bias on my part, but it just felt like the two of them would work well together.
A very big plus in this story was the build up to the love scene (yes! there was a love scene…and several more follows, but as you probably already know, I skip over those parts mostly.) The build up was done in a very natural way (although there were times in the beginning I was getting a Stockholm Syndrome vibe to the story.)
As the story progresses, I found myself enjoying that this reader was discovering the why of things right along with Kenzie and Cori. It made for a very good, enjoyable journey.
This was definitely a four star book until the end, where it got sappy, and that seemed out of place with the rest of the story.
I have found when I don’t expect much from a book and then it over-performs, I tend to rate it higher. This one was no different. I loved it.
There were a few random typos.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it certainly won’t be the last. CL Hart is an author I’m going to keep my eyes on.
I'm surprised so many seemed to have enjoyed this book to the tune of 4 and 5 stars. I found there to be a severe number of plot holes and a lot of predictability. I found myself bogged down often and struggled with if I even wanted to finish reading it.
Just to also add, I read this on Kindle and the editing was abysmal. Grammar and punctuation mistakes, words missing entirely - It was almost like reading unedited online fan-fiction at some points. My rating is purely for content though.
I'll skip all my judgy "ick" comments and say this: a lesbian high chase thriller would be great! Seriously. This isn't it. It's two thirds way too syrupy love story and one third action. The action is good. I mean, great. I do agree with one review which says the protagonist's disbelief goes on for too long but still, great, edge of your seat action scenes. If only the victim had been less whiny and insistent on talking when the assassin needed to think and stay in a state of heightened awareness or the assassin had just backhanded the victim a coup!e more times...translation? I didn't like Cory, at all. Way too much syrup and nowhere near enough common sense. This coming from a woman who's accused of being too mushy. I love the idea and some of the execution but really, this should have been a love story or a thriller but this attempted combo did NOT work.
“Tough assassin, maybe; tough woman, not so much.”
“Governments and corporations make the decisions on how this world will evolve. Their greed for power and money make this world go around. Those that want it will do anything to get it, and those that have it will do anything to keep it. Make no mistake — the rest of us are just pawns on a chessboard.”
“Life is just a sexually transmitted disease and I hate to tell you this, but it’s always fatal. No one gets out alive.” + • + • + • +
Action, suspense, govt conspiracies & corruption, black ops, false flags & the amassing of power, money & the glutinous greed masquerading as patriotism, morality & the greater good—all in ONE captivating & compelling book!! & the relationships, interactions & entanglements between the main/major characters is a legit work of master craftsmanship that is the cornerstone that carries this story to its success.
I am absolutely exhausted. I read this in one sitting because I had to know what was going to happen. (No,spoilers). I was going to do washing housework but none of that got done i was to absorbed in my book. I was reading so fast I had to go back and get the story straight and who was who. What a great read. I love the main characters and all the other people we got to know loved the visit to the vet that got my heart rate up i can tell you. If you love great books buy this you will not be disappointed I am off to rest my tired eyes with no regret about housework on and to find other books by this author who I thank very much for a great day with a great book.
I don't even know what to write. I was interested in the read but I found myself halfway into the novel not exactly knowing what was happening. The moment I actually thought I had the book figured out it ended. Just like that.
so after reading some reviews here I just can't help and wonder-Maybe I'm the problem.
Loved this story, action and how it played out. I was extremely into the book, the voice of the narrator, (which can be difficult at times and it was audiobook) and loved the ending.
An action story mixes with romance. I was surprised that after I finished the book, I realized the whole thing is only 298 pages, yet I felt like it has been a very long journey with so many things happened in this particular plot.
For some reason I have an ominous feeling due to the poem at the ending. However, all I know is that I am satisfy with the conclusion. This type of story doesn't come across often along with the lesbian genre, so I'm glad someone did it, since I had been indulging in mushy romance for so long that I definitely need a break from them for a bit. Still, old habits die hard, while I know fully well that this is more than just a romance, I can't help but want more intimacy between Cori and Kenzie. I am especially love the concept of enemy turns to into lover, not the stockholm syndrome kind, but the kind with real reason and development as to why Cori loves Kenzie for who she is- not what she done (part of it). The author did a great job in delivering that. The characters don't care about their sexual preference nor do they question it about their other partner or themselves. Ain't a coming out story nor the journey to discover one sexual's identity. It was just "If I love you, then I love you."
While I love the ending, I think in some parts, it's a little rush, especially the damnation of the villains. Another part is Cori's involvement in solving the problem, her role is being diminished quite a bit with Kenzie dealing with everything by herself near the ending. Hence, another reminder for me that this is not just a romance, but more of an action pack.
Maybe I am missing something in the story, but I still don't get why Cori needs a new identity. Regardless, it's a minor problem that I'm not in a hurry in look for the answer, if I ever will that is. Oh, regarding Cori's mother, I'm a bit curious about her as well, but then again, that's another minor detail.
The idea that an assassin falls in love with a target is not that new, but CL Hart develops the story and the characters into something quite plausible. Kenzie, the troubled youth turned around by a benevolent person in power and a dose of the military, is a fairly standard back-story for an assassin. However, Hart quickly develops Kenzie into a much more interesting character. Part of this process is the development of the relationship with her original target, Cori. Cori is less well developed, but is a lovely foil to the soldier Kenzie, and becomes a capable accomplice in their survival. This was a very entertaining book.
This was really good! It was very fast paced, bad-ass, cute and a little cheesy sometimes- but none the less I really enjoyed it! I'm really glad I found this book, and I hope there's more like it in the future. :) I rated this a four mainly because there were a lot of typos/grammatical errors that kind of made it a little distracting but overall great read!
What a great read. A military trained female assassin is ordered to kill a young American woman in Mexico. The story grabs you immediately, and rockets toward the finale. Lots of twists, and in between is a growing love story between these two young women. It was a delight to read. I will definitely read another book by this author.
This was my first time reading a ebook from this author and will say I'm looking forward to reading more. I loved the characters the highs and lows which kept me hooked up until the end.
Very enjoyable read. It didn't feel like characters were being introduced just to enable something to happen. Twists and turns in the plot made me unable to put the book down, unless I was falling asleep with tiredness.
I love how fast paced this book was! I wish it was a movie! I'm going to have to read this book again and again. It's become one of my all time favorites
