Great photographs and discussion of one of the most beautiful caves with Paleolithic art! I would have liked more explanatory drawings, since in some of the photos, I couldn’t see the artwork that was supposed to be pictured. Also, the photos could have been better integrated into the text. Still, though, this book is full of great information about the cave!

I was less impressed with this work. The same paintings appear in multiple photographs. However, there is a thoughtful article on the art, the artists and the paleolithic period when Altamira was a sanctuary. Another strong article covers 'techniques, individual artists, and artistic concepts in the paintings of Altamira."
