When I got this study bible, I felt like that character “Eli” portrayed by Denzel Washington from the movie: “THE BOOK OF ELI”, of course it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out what book Eli is protecting enough to showcase his mysterious martial arts skills…said to be the book that is the hope for mankind in an Apocalyptic world.
There are plenty of bibles out there, but there is only one Max Lucado!
We are all facing challenging times and for me now or more than ever we should turn to this perfect guidebook to keep us going---THE WORD OF GOD.
Now the bible could be a complex thing to read, but with different bible versions or translation it is possible now that the Bible can easily be understood to be at par with our changing times.
Thankfully, there are Christian Publishers who always comes up with new ways of enticing us Christians and non-Christians alike to read the Bible for all its worth!
This particular bible have exceeded my expectations that it got me hooked on reading.
What makes so it different?
I like to compare this bible to a Swiss army knife! You got everything you need here. A comprehensive bible on which each chapter had sidebar on the left and right and divided into sections:
SITUATION INSPIRATION THE APPLICATION THE EXPLORATION It has full-page devotional bible studies. A Reading program to get you more motivated. Now…the best part of this bible is the DEVOTIONAL INDEX , a better way of looking into specific bible verses depending on your need for the moment.
For example, if you have issues with anger or financial difficulties there is topical index showing you where you can find that passage that deals with anger or finances.
What's more…at the back portion of the bible it also has study guides to nurture your spiritual growth.
Perhaps, the only drawback if you called it as that was that the pages of the bible is so thin, as if it is paper being used is the ONION SKIN type that you must be extra careful in handling its pages.
NOTE: I received this book from Thomas Nelson as part of their books for bloggers program and the opinions I have expressed are entirely my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the U.S Federal Trade Commission.
I really enjoy Max Lucado and was a bit skeptical about a Lucado Study Bible, but as I had the chance to preview the,"Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible, NKJV", I was taken with not only how beautiful the bible was laid out, but the devotionals that were intersperced throughout this bible, along with study lessons that are provided for each book of the bible and each chapter of that book.
This truly lived up to being a study bible; The paper were not onion thin, nor where they "notebook" quality, but a lightweight quality that just add to the overall look and texture and feel of the study bible.
With beautiful images, font spacing that is easy for any eyes (I estimated it to be about a 11 point) and well laid out, you will definitely enjoy using the,"Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible, NKJV" bible for your everyday study bible use.
The size was the only drawback for me, but I'm also use to a thin-line bible that I could easily carry in a purse and its not to say that you couldn't bring this bible to church for use. It has a nice hardback cover to it and works well for bible study groups, classes and for use during sermons as well as personal use, and my only complaint is because I like things I can just drop in my purse, it was really more of an aesthetic drawback for me.
However, this is something that I do plan on using for my personal reflection time and if you are looking for a bible to use or even to give as a gift, I do recommend that you look into the, "Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible, NKJV". This is perfect for the new Christian in your life, as a gift, to replace one's own bible and or to use in conjunction with another bible if you are seeking a study bible to use for personal time.
I know, I'm deviating from my schedule. Today begins the New Year and I needed to begin it with a recommendation to read the most important thing ever published.
It's a bit difficult to review a Bible. It's just one of those things that is always a personal preference.

As soon as I saw this one, though, I knew my son would love it. There are a number of reasons for that. First, We are a KJV family. My FIL is a preacher and therefore there are just some deviations that are unacceptable (He's not overbearing just one of those people you feel the need to please). This version is the NKJV it's much easier to understand especially for the kids. Second, the version I got is a hardback - they seem to work best in our family. Third, it's just so easy.
I think the easiest way to explain is this:
Judges 14:1-20 (page 329) 1 Now Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. 2 So he went up and told his father and mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.” 3 Then his father and mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your brethren, or among all my people, that you must go and get a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” And Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she pleases me well.” 4 But his father and mother did not know that it was of the LORD—that He was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines. For at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel. 5 So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. 6 And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. 7 Then he went down and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well. 8 After some time, when he returned to get her, he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion. And behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the carcass of the lion. 9 He took some of it in his hands and went along, eating. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them, and they also ate. But he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the carcass of the lion. 10 So his father went down to the woman. And Samson gave a feast there, for young men used to do so. 11 And it happened, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him. 12 Then Samson said to them, “Let me pose a riddle to you. If you can correctly solve and explain it to me within the seven days of the feast, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. 13 But if you cannot explain it to me, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” And they said to him, “Pose your riddle, that we may hear it.” 14 So he said to them: “Out of the eater came something to eat, And out of the strong came something sweet.” Now for three days they could not explain the riddle. 15 But it came to pass on the seventh[a] day that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may explain the riddle to us, or else we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us in order to take what is ours? Is that not so?” 16 Then Samson’s wife wept on him, and said, “You only hate me! You do not love me! You have posed a riddle to the sons of my people, but you have not explained it to me.” And he said to her, “Look, I have not explained it to my father or my mother; so should I explain it to you?” 17 Now she had wept on him the seven days while their feast lasted. And it happened on the seventh day that he told her, because she pressed him so much. Then she explained the riddle to the sons of her people. 18 So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down: “What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion?” And he said to them: “If you had not plowed with my heifer, You would not have solved my riddle!” 19 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their men, took their apparel, and gave the changes of clothing to those who had explained the riddle. So his anger was aroused, and he went back up to his father’s house. 20 And Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had been his best man.
Do you see how it's in paragraph style? It's written more like today's language. It's much easier to read and to understand. To top it off - this is in the margin: (FYI - this is incomplete... I can only type so much!)
Life Lessons: Judges 14:1-20 Situation: The Philistines ruled over Israel. The Israelites cried to God to save them. God provided a leader called Samson. Observation: God always provides strength to do His will. In Samson's case, God supplied extraordinary physical power. Inspiration: Small deeds can change the world. Sow the mustard seed. Bury the leaven lump. Make the call. Write the check. Organize the committee. Years from now someone might follow your example... Moses had a staff. David had a sling. Samson had a jawbone. Rahab had a string. Mary had some ointment. Aaron had a rod. Dorcas had a needle. All were used by God. What do you have? God inhabits the tiny deed. He cures the common life by giving no common life, by offering no common gifts... Don't discount the smallness of your deeds. (From Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado)
Now, I ask - what Bible could be better for my 13 year old son? It seems geared right at him!

Upon opening this bible, I was immediately aware of the love of God. Max Lucado has threaded the love of Jesus throughout all of his articles, notes, and study guides in this bible. Prior to receiving this bible, I had heard of Max Lucado, but hadn’t read any of his books. This bible has shown me Mr. Lucado’s walk with the Lord Jesus is a walk of love and I find myself unable to put the bible down! As I turn each page I experience a fresh revelation in the Lord. I am amazed and fortunate to possess this book, and have made this bible part of my daily study. Mr. Lucado says of Jesus on page 1720, “But most of all, He’s been to the grave. Not as a visitor, but as a corpse. Buried amidst the cadavers. Numbered among the dead. Heart silent and lungs vacant. Body wrapped and grave sealed. The cemetery. He’s been buried there. You haven’t yet. But you will be. And since you will, don’t you need someone who knows the way out? (From 3:16 by Max Lucado)” This sums up Christianity in a nutshell. I was awed when I read this, and continue to be awed as I turn each page. I believe everyone who is interested in knowing and experiencing the love of God should have this bible. It is a treasure!

The Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible has come out in New King James Version with scintillating features like life lessons, devotional bible studies, topical articles, reading plan, etc. Max Lucado has written the applications all throughout this Bible. Being the best-selling author and writer and preacher at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio of Texas, Max Lucado does a splendid job of explaining the truths from the various books of Bible. He has worked hard to give a comprehensive treatment to his work and it is evident from this Bible.
This Study Bible is flooded with information like 2 Year Devotional Reading Program, 18Where to turn When 26 19 Index, 18The Big Picture 19 30 Day Reading Plan, Spiritual Growth Verses, New Believer Studies, 18He did this just for you 19 Verses, 18New Life in Christ 19 articles, 18Christ Through Bible 19 messages, etc. All these tools are highly informative and helpful to anyone reading the Bible. One most attractive factor is that the applications spelt in the Bible by Lucado are based on sound biblical principles and values.
The Bible has come out as a hard bound edition and is easy to handle by the users. The fonts relating to the commentary of Lucado are slightly smaller than the optimum size. The same could have been made in normal font size which is used for bible verses in this edition.
I highly recommend this Bible for anyone who wishes to learn from the Bible and implement and practice those biblical principles in their life.
I give this one five out of five stars.
